Rank the changes made to the OT from worst to best (or least worst?)
Time
adam most people on these boards wouldnt mind if the prequels slightly revised the OT if they were any damn good! get a clue.

by they way the special editions all suck and have sucked since i first saw them in '97.

ian mcdiarmad in esb wouldve been cool if he didnt remind me how much i hate the prequels, with him all bloated and catatonic telling vader that luke is his son when vader should know that already and how would the emperor know anyway and why would a sith lord who follows the rule of two as established in the prequels send another sith who thinks the same way (not to mention hes related to him) out to convert him?

redeeming lucas
Time
i wouldnt have minded if lucas made it all about anakin if most of the prequel trilogy didnt suck so bad! why would anyone want to watch either tpm, atoc, or even the first 45 minutes of rots again! they are that bad! it just shows how much story lucas really had for these movies, not much! what a waste of a good trilogy

Why the saga has suffered because ESB was so good (IMO)

Yeah, that gets quoted every 3 or 4 months. Kurtz later apologized for the interview, I believe, because he admitted he unfairly slanted it against Lucas. Something along those lines. He didn't like how harshly he came off.

That and to say there's NO subtext in Phantom Menace is silly. if anything, there's too much, and it muddies up the economy of the storytelling.
actually that makes sense, the backstory did provide depth to the OT seeing as how obi wan pretty much told it to luke at the beginning of ANH. and thats why the prequels dont work as well, its basically reiterating everything obi wan said in ANH. but at a 7 hour running time and a 'different point of view'

If the Prequels had been made first would they have succeeded?
Time
according to lucas he had a 13 page backstory, and had to fill in the rest starting in late '94. i'm sure he had the volcano thing worked out since he talked of it in the '77 rolling stone but im sure not much else. actually the last 20 minutes of rots right before the duel seemed the most prequel (in a good way) than anything in all the PT, probably because he had that worked out originally.

SIX fantastic brand new preservation projects..... (Released)
Time

also i have the '82 laserdisc, this has different pan and scan than the later ones, including a squished scene where luke sees the tusken thru his binoculars instead of it being cropped. i read on the davisdvd star wars video timeline that this version was only shown on HBO in the early '80s, and never released on video.

and what was different about the '80 stereo mix of empire?

thanks karyudo, can anyone answer my other questions above
