Tell that to the executives. Hardly anyone wants to go ahead with HD-DVD. And why should they? DVD is their biggest money-maker.

Blu-Ray on the other hand...

HD-DVD is in no way coming out next year. If it does, it will only be a few select releases, and will probably end up like laserdisc.

Why?

Well, the reason DVD ended up being so big is that it offered so much more over VHS than LD did. Higher quality movies, chapter skipping tons of extra features, etc.

The average consumer will see no reason to upgrade, and HD-DVD will exist only for a while as a film collector's item.

A duel layer DVD can basically hold the amount of two DVDs on a single side of one DVD. It solves the problem of having to walk up to the player and "flip" the DVD when the side runs out. Instead of flipping it, you have what is called a "layer change," which is when the DVD switches between the two layers. This results in a slight pause, which depending on how it's done, can either be well hidden or annoying. In Pulp Fiction, for example, the layer change is placed in the middle of Christopher Walken's fantastic monologue.

Idea: Star Wars VCD
Time

Sorry if this has been discussed already but what options are there for people who’s DVD players don’t play DVD-R’s? I would love to by TR47’s set, but I don’t care much for watching it on my computer the whole time. Anyone doing a VCD set? I know it will be lesser quality, but they will be comparable to VHS and will not degrade over time.

Thanks.

Not really true. Jurassic Park and T2 had some of the greatest CG work ever done; even today it's hard to top them. The only difference was with these is that it wasn't so much the systems they had were state of the art, it's that the artists took their time to slowly craft the work, unlike sticking it in there (which is still done today).

I used to believe Return of the Jedi was best as a little kid but I grew up unlike many.

I think that happened to everyone. ROTJ used to be my favorite because of all the action. I thought ESB was long and boring and used to fast forward through all the Yoda scenes, except for the X-Wing scene. Man, I don't know what was wrong with me!

Yay, for trolling! Exactly the type of 'quality posts' this forum needs another load of...

How is that trolling? A post was made suggesting that Joe_H and Jimbo are one and the same. I said no and gave evidence to back it up. No need for a long drawn out discussion, because frankly, I don't care for these arguments either and have thus far resisted ot get into this due to it's idoicy.
