so technically T3 messed up.

The idea of Judgement Day being stoped is fucked up. The first movie showed that the future is set and unchangable.

You kind of missed the point of the first two... Cameron was saying you could change the future.

Giving him premature-revealing dialogue- Bad Idea

His make up job and blank expression kill that scene horribly. His face is expressionless and doesn't match the voice. "Yeeess, he would be a great asset." with his eyes staring off in the same direction.
The old Emporer in that scene at least looked like he was thinking. "Yesss... yes. He would be a great asset." His eyes reflect what he is supposed to be thinking.

I just don't like how it turned out. The new dialogue alone is enough for me to prefer the old version.

By saying that you are saying a chimpanzze acted better then Ian McDarmid. I thought he looked fin.

Well, the fact is it did act better. It looks like the pasted a moving mouth onto a still image of the Emperor.

I cannot believe after watching that scene the way it should have been from the start, people...... purists especially........honestly........want....monkey-eyes. I cannot fathom it, I'm sorry. And as for Vader being obsessed with young Skywalker, then says "How is that possible?". Don't you get it, he's LYING? Is that impossible for a Sith of all people! I'm not mad at anyone, don't me wrong, but this is a thousand times better then that excuse of hack for an Emperor. What I saw just then was the real and true Emperor. I think to me, this will go down as one of my favorite changes, right with Ben and Vader's lightsabers, fixed snowspeeders, and fixed Rancor.

As a sidenote, please don't think I don't respect your opinion, I'm just having a hard time understanding it. And yes, I did sign the petion, etc.... but I just don't get it. Call me Lucas butt kisser all you might want to, but I like it very much. That's my two cents.

Thank you. I totally agree this is a very good change. The change to the wampa is still my favorite Special Edition change. Changes like Haydens head or Greedo shooting first are one thing I can understand. I too can't phathom why anyone would want to watch emty cities, hidden monsters, fuzzy lightsabers, matt lines, dewbacks that don't move, blobs under land speeder, or an old women Emperor with chimpanzze (not monkey) eyes.

"Emty" Cities - Because I liked the mood that was better evoked by the original Mos Eisley. Made it feel like a town out of A Fistful of Dollars or The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (as Star Wars was originally made as a western)

Hidden Monsters - A lot more suspenseful. Ever heard the saying "a little goes a long way?" By showing us everything head on, it ruins quite a bit of mood, especially for this particular scene.

Fuzzy Lightsabers - I like the new sabers.

"Matt" lines - I like their removal

Dewbacks that don't move - I don't mind the dewbacks so much.

Blobs under the landspeeder - Eh, the new one is OK.

Old Woman Emperor - Still looks a lot better than the new one IMO.

But mostly, we purists want the original because that was what was there in 1977. I can take some of the new changes, and enjoy them, but give me the originals any day. After all, no one in the seventies was talking about the dewbacks and lack of a monster, now where they?

How does George Lucas rationalize making changes to his movies while speaking out against alterations of other pieces of film heritage?

I can give you an answer right now...

What he was specifically speaking about was the colorization of the Three Stooges. They were shot in black and white, always meant to be seen in black and white, and the changes that are being done are not being done by the original director.

With Star Wars, he had always considered the originals rough cuts and always wanted to make them bigger, but had neither the time, technology nor money. Plus, they are his creations.

A better question would be asking why Lucas is ignoring a large amount of fans by not putting out the originals, or something of that nature.

I really would not bother submitting any. The last question they have answered is from March, and if they were to answer a question now, it would probably not be something of this nature.

Same transfer, though it looks a bit better. In the shot with the Sulaco, the newer version has more stars, for example. Plus I think the older edition only had the director's cut (which I don't care much for)

Good thing I'm not alone on this... I never cared for the old song. I feel the new one is actually an improvement.

I was just saying that you were useing Cameron to put down Terminator 3 I was simply puting down your agruement. If he likes the movie then oviously he doesn't believe his franchise is being ruined.

Whether or not Cameron likes T3 or that he believes his franchise is being ruined is not the issue. The fact is that he had already completed his version of the series. The third one was more of a spin off. In his words, T3 was "a film for the sake of the commerce." I don't know if you've posted it already, but do you have a link to the interview where he said he liked T3?

Quote

He stated in the same interview he hates Alien 3. So he believes his franchises have been ruined before but Terminator 3 didn't.

Where do you get off saying the Alien series is Cameron's franchise?

By that logic so was Terminator 2. The first Termintor could have easily excisted without any sequal.

Not in Cameron's view.

If we are talking about Camerons view then you have to like Terminator 3 since JIM CAMERON LIKES TERMINATOR 3. He didn't make it but believes Mostow did a good job with it.

That doesn't make it a masterpiece. Lucas likes the new Star Wars movies but that doesn't make them good, now does it? The fact that someone likes a movie, despite their position doesn't make it a good or bad movie.

T3 was really just an attempt to milk more money out of the franchise. Cameron refused to do it because in his view, he had already completed the story. I agree with this, as T3 completely messes with the timeline and changes the theme of the first two, as noted above.

The only reason Arnold did it was because Cameron told him to ask for a "Shitload of money" (picked this up somewhere, don't know if it necessarily is true or not).

It's not a bad movie, it just seemed kind of unncessary.
