I’ve suggested ways to emphasize it even more, like having Palpatine’s voice sometimes be layered with multiple echoing voices. Like all the Sith are speaking through him.

That’s… a bit of a reach, to say the least. Surely there’s a massive difference between (A.) betraying your brotherhood and massacring children, and (B.) killing the one person who has done the most harm to the Galaxy for decades.
But I do agree with you that Rey wouldn’t know all the details of the situation, including the transfer.
Cutting out frames does indeed help, since in the original they wait like 1 second for each strike, this doesn’t really convey Rey’s mood. I tried doing this once, and the result is almost prequel-like (in the good sense) in some of the most intense parts.

I like the delivery on “Here?!” It sounds fearful, like their infamous reputation precedes them. Sort of maintains the purpose of the original line calling them ghouls, but now it is more subtextual, and clearer to understand what’s actually being said.

I feel like there needs to be a little bit more there than Rey fatally wounding Kylo for her to consider abandoning everything and going to Exegol. If she does the same thing that she does with Chewie except with Finn, it would be a really convincing reason for her to believe that she thinks she needs to abandon the fight before she completely loses control of herself.
This is the biggest reason why I support the lightning. Rey running away and giving up felt weird and unearned in the theatrical cut.
Okay, trying the timing again for 3PO in the hangar. Is this still too manic?
I tried doing “It appears I am a Resistance spy” but the beginning R of that “Resistance” is so slurred with the “D” right before it that separating it always sounded terrible. If anyone’s got a source for a clip of him saying “Resistance” quickly enough that it would fit here, I think it would fit the memory-wipe stuff better if we’re able to keep the “It appears”, but I just don’t have a good source for that key word.
I know! Someone removed the lightning from Palpster’s hands when he raises the Fleet, yes? Let’s just reinsert that lighting onto Rey. That’s how VFX work, right?

…where instead of looking up to the sky he finds Rey approaching him, with the implication being that she’s begun her search for students. This wouldn’t require any dialogue; just a couple new shots of Rey composited into the Canto Bight backgrounds, perhaps sold by original close-up footage of a Rey cosplayer’s arm stretching out to offer her hand.
This is a really intriguing idea! I’d love to see this done if any of the video people on here are up for it.
Somehow I had missed that edit of the Hangar scene. It really is perfect. I cannot wait for the Rey Nobody stuff to be added to Ascendant V2.
Thinking about it, there really isn’t anyone in charge of the galaxy at all in the Sequel trilogy, or at least nobody we know about from the films. The Senate is destroyed halfway through the first one without ever learning who led that body, and Snoke is killed a day or two later in TLJ without completing his conquest of the galaxy. Kylo is the de-facto leader after that, but he never really appears to lead the galaxy and is apparently looking for the real power behind Snoke this whole time. Then Palpatine emerges and becomes the de-facto leader of the galaxy using the shadow power structure of Pryde et al who really control the First Order. Then Palpatine dies a few hours after that along with Pryde, Kylo, and Leia. With the original leadership of the galaxy dead and the leaders of the Resistance and First/Final Orders dead, I guess the galaxy exists in a state of anarchy until the next warlord comes along with a salvaged planet-killing Star Destroyer.
Another reason why Duel of the Fates, for all its flaws, would have been better. Showing that the First Order has seized control of the Galaxy and occupied Coruscant was such a cool idea, especially with Finn leading the ex-Stormtrooper and civilian rebellion there.
Honestly, the solution I keep coming back to would be to comp a brand new shot of 3PO into the sequence. That may well be a pipe dream though - I personally have no idea what I’m doing with effects like this, so unless someone else is willing to lend a hand…?
Also, happy Star Wars Day, all you crazy characters! I’m so thrilled to be on this journey together.

Hmm yeah, that very clearly becomes slow-mo. We’ll have to stick with the original timing and see what can fit. I’ll keep playing with the audio.

Hard agree. If anyone wants to take a crack at slowing it down with Flowframes or otherwise, I’ll try retiming the audio and come up with a few options of how we can fit the different line options.

Side note: I seem to have the very beginning of a differe Lego 3PO quote start right at the end, so he’s saying “A ship!” but it definitely sounds like a sweary droid. That would obviously not be included in the final product.
Alrighty, Dagger discovery scene! The last time I tried to edit this clip, there was some concern that 3PO would know that this Sith artifact is the one they’re after. So I did a bit more dialogue tinkerage - now he thinks that “this must be the clue Master Luke was looking for.”
There might be some subtle sync issues with the echoes in the cave, but I didn’t really notice until I muted the center channel and cranked the volume up, so I think it will be okay?
(You know, whether or not the other Dagger Vision components can be figured out, I do think that this scene and the new Jannah scene really help to smooth over some of the internal logic of the film. At least, that’s my impression.)
Having not watched the original version of this scene in quite some time, I kept waiting for the bit that felt like obvious dialogue replacement. I honestly couldn’t tell you what it was. Whatever the change was, it works seamlessly for me!
I didn’t notice the two whip-pans until they were pointed out, FWIW. I think it works as is.
Also, maybe Rey’s dad was the only viable young clone and the others have been all shrively, emphasizing his need for a living host to transfer his spirit to.
I like the idea of adding a shot of stormtroopers in the hangar beforehand so we have a bit more time. Then the Trooper could say “Who are you, droid” or “What is your operating number” and we could still fit “It appears”. Does anyone have a little clip I could slot in there?
And yes, I will be supplying raw audio, not finalized clips, so it can be laid in wherever anyone wants.

Besides graffiti, I didn’t think to much extra would be necessary. You can already hear blaster shots and stuff in the distance I believe, during certain points of the Kijimi sequence. I think adding more sounds of distant blaster fire, explosions, even battle cries, could help keep that in the audiences mind. It looks like the stormtroopers are raiding houses, so you could even have something like a distant First Order announcement saying anyone harboring insurgents will be punished, or something like that.
If this clip gets created with more battle noises and the graffiti/posters added, I will absolutely add some yells to the background

This is absurdly fantastic. I LOVE this idea so much!! As a cold open, does that mean that you have this, and then hard cut to the Star Wars title and crawl? Because that would be an incredible way to kick this off
And that clip works well, Sherlock! Because it’s so tight, a hilarious 3PO line might actually drown out the rest of the scene. “Is everyday like this for you people” might work best.
If we end up with a clean(ed) line about being a “highly trained resistance spy,” maybe it could replace the lines when he’s chatting with a stormtrooper on the star destroyer.
Oh man, if he said that on the star destroyer, and the Stormtrooper was just like, “Wait…what?” before immediately being shot, that would be hilarious! (Although…would his knowledge of the Resistance have been erased in the memory wipe? Hmm…)
