Combine that kind of mentality with strong hate and you've got a recipe for some bad stuff going down ... America and its allies represent the future of the human race on planet Earth ... The Muslims have a very backward way of thinking. They come off as slaves to their religion, they have a poor outlook on outsiders, they treat their women horribly....these are all things that most societies have grown out of over time. The Muslims have not ... The Muslims have to come into the future ... the future is going to fuck them good unless they clean their heads out and beam into the 21st century with the rest of us ... the Christians have grown out of that shit and now peacefully co-exist with other faiths ... The Muslims haven't grown up just yet with that ...
Seriously, don't either of you realise that you're talking like empire-builders? You sound like colonialists, determined to "civilise" the primitive people by forcing them to embrace your own values and culture. I think you're going to have to realise what all empires have had to realise in the past - people don't want to be taken over and forced to change their ways and they will fight to the death to stop you doing it to them.

Why do you think the Palestinians fight Israel tooth and nail? Why do the Irish fight the United Kingdom? Why do you think the Balkans fell apart? Why do you think the USSR fell apart? Why do you think the Middle Eastern states are now in turmoil? Do you think Iraq's borders are straight lines by accident? No, some guy in Whitehall drew them using a ruler. The borders of most countries in the Middle East and Africa were determined by people in Europe or the USA, you know.

Why do we piss them off so much? I'd say it's primarily because we won't fucking leave them alone!!!!

... hopefully it does not take someone you love dieing before you appreciate everything you have been given. Freedom. Saddam would have killed you if he had the chance. Bin-Laden will kill you if he has the chance. They do not care about your speech, your liberty, your children, your wife, your family, your nothing. They want you dead.
Freedom isn't free
It costs folks like you and me
And if we don't all chip in
We'll never pay that bill
Freedom isn't free
No, there's a hefty fuckin' fee.
And if you don't throw in your buck 'o five
Who will?

My own opinion: the fear and hatred of Muslims expressed by some here, without qualification for individuals or groups, is similar to the fear and hatred of citizens of capitalist nations, again without qualification, expressed by extremist Muslim groups, such as Al Qaeda.

As for global warming, I am convinced, by the evidence I've seen, that human activity has accelerated the process. I am further convinced that, if human behaviour does not alter, the process will continue to accelerate, leading to many changes to the global environment which may start to occur within our lifetimes, some of which may be permanent. If the levels of Carbon Dioxide rise above a certain level, Earth could be at risk of a runaway greenhouse effect due to the fact that the factors which have reduced the greenhouse effect in the past (e.g. carbon fixing organisms, such as plants and algae, and the water of the oceans) will be unable to deal with the excess. A runaway greenhouse effect could, potentially, render Earth as hostile to life as Venus.

Just my own opinions, of course.

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force. As if millions of voices cried out in terror... and were suddenly silenced."

Ben feels this event both physically and mentally - with his whole self - by way of the Force. It causes him pain.

This leads me to consider the effect on a Jedi of widespread war, as at the time of the Clone Wars. It would present a constant barrage of emotions and sensations from all sides.

It also leads me to consider how a Jedi would be affected by the taking of a life. If a Jedi strikes a living opponent (i.e. not a droid) down in battle, wouldn't that provide the same sensation? Perhaps not as overwhelming but possibly sharper due to being at the centre of the disturbance.

Jedi only use the Force for knowledge and defence, never for attack. Perhaps it's not just a principle. Perhaps it is also because the consequences are felt by the Jedi through the Force. Fear, pain, anger can all be felt, they are experienced through the Force.

Any thoughts, people?

I really think it's more interesting to keep the reveal of Palpatine for ROTJ. I think the saga, being approached as the story of the rise and fall of the Empire, can afford to strip away the layers slowly. By the end of the PT, we can be in no doubt as to the Sith's involvement with the Empire, but the fact that Palpatine himself is a Sith Master need not be known until ROTJ. I like the idea of Vader disappearing while still Ben's apprentice and then returning as a Sith Lord, leaving us still wondering about the levels to which the corruption reaches and how much it will take to bring it down.

Was Boba Fett really the 'bad guy' in Empire? He had two or three scenes. This goes back to the overblown importance placed on Fett by some fans and, as a result (and I think far more unfortunately), Lucas. Jango Fett was a terrible 'bad guy'. There were about zero reasons to include him or Boba Fett's backstory in the prequels, and certainly little reason to make it a major plot point for an entire film.
I very much agree with this point of view. Boba Fett was so interesting because he was mysterious and dangerous. But he was never any more important than the means by which Han Solo was parted from his friends. Such a character does not merit his own background scenes in the PT, in my opinion.
