Hey guys, Remember when Star wars had writing like this?

Um, Empire has some of the best ... and worst ... dialogue in the series. Yoda's lines may have been better, but Leia and 3PO in particular suffered from really crappy dialogue compared to the lines they were given to speak in Star Wars.
I disagree. I think ESB's script is much better than that of ANH. ESB suffers from not having the luxury of the great structure of ANH, forming, as it does, a bridge from ANH to ROTJ. But I think the dialogue is the best of all the movies. And Kershner gets the best performances of the saga too.

This is a very interesting idea. Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader fighting and then, afterwards, a burnt, dying body is found and no-one knows who it is, including Ben. That would be an excellent cliffhanger to use to make the revelation at the end of ESB as shattering as it was originally!

And just another thought. The new Jedi doesn't have to be on Yavin, either. The universe is so huge, there are so many other new and interesting locales it could go to. Luke could even have an all-new one completely built.
My thinking is influenced by my plan to press on to a new trilogy. The Empire wouldn't fall until episode IX and therefore Luke wouldn't have the freedom or the resources to construct any new temples. I think he might look for somewhere out of the way of the Empire's direct attention, with structures already there to be used. I'm thinking that, 20 years after ROTJ (there's a (fairly arbitrary!) 20 year gap between my three trilogies), the Empire may have all but forgotten the destroyed rebel base on the 4th moon of Yavin, leaving it available for another covert purpose. Luke would remember it from his first adventure and it certainly seems to be a place teeming with life.

I imagine Luke, after ROTJ, scouring the galaxy for Jedi that survived the purge, following up leads and convincing them to join him in creating a new Jedi Order to take on the Sith and their Empire. I imagine him bringing them together in a place beneath the Empire's attentions and quietly, patiently, rekindling the fires of the light side. A further six years, over episodes VII and VIII, and they're ready to face the Sith. I imagine him standing before the Emperor again, not the green young man he was in ROTJ, but a centred, peaceful Jedi Master with the full power of the Force as his ally.

Peter Jackson evidently IS returning for The Hobbit...sort of...
Time
I enjoy Jackson's LOTR and am disappointed that there will not be a production of The Hobbit by the same team.

However, it's always interesting to see what different teams do with material from the same source. My hope is that, if a new team is assembled for The Hobbit, that they make their own version, not what they think Peter Jackson, or fans of Jackson's LOTR films, would want to make.

Brett Ratner can bite my shiny, metal ass. Red Dragon was one of the most painful cinematic experiences I have had in my young life.

I'm liking the thoughts on the Jedi Temple. I agree completely that the Jedi Order would surround themselves with life, rather than some lifeless monument.

I think it best if Yoda is always on Dagobah and has been for a few hundred years. Jedi go there to train with him but he never leaves the planet. I imagine Yoda meditating and sensing the events in the galaxy through the Force. I also prefer the idea of the Jedi Masters communicating through the Force and, perhaps, the council itself meeting in that way.

Chronicles of Narnia (The movie) striking similarities with The Lord of the Rings (the movie)(s)
Time
This thread contained similar discussions - I voiced my opinion on the marked similarity to Jackson/WETA's LOTR there. I agree with you. It's a day-glo, Disneyfied, kiddified take on what LOTR did. Hell, they might as well have had cutesy musical numbers between the animated and "real" characters...

Good idea, auximenies! I'll look into it.

Further to do with Leia - I think Han pisses her off because he's so carefree and mercenary. She's so fired up with the Rebellion that she finds it absolutely incredible that someone could be so blase about the fate of the galaxy. I think what really bugs her, though, is that she also finds him irresistably attractive. She's angry that she has so little control over herself and it confuses her that he excites her so much.

It's part of what makes ESB the best scripted and directed film of the whole saga - the way Leia falls in love with Han, despite herself, over the course of the film is absolutely brilliant!

Well, it started as an idea to write a PT to fit the OOT but I've since decided that Luca$h's PT actually begins with ROTJ, if you know what I mean, so I now intend to fit a PT to ANH and (most of) ESB, rewrite ROTJ and then write an ST - 9 episodes altogether.

Most of my posts on this thread are little ideas that come to me that I want to get some opinions on. Basically, as long as it fits with ANH and ESB, makes sense and is interesting, then it's okay. All opinions are welcome.

If you're interested, there's a lot of great posts in the rest of this thread.

Just thought, while posting about Leia's role in the rebellion in the other thread, what if Leia took over her father's position in the Alliance and it wasn't to everyone's liking?

Maybe she was made part of the leaderhip of Echo Base because they wanted to see how she coped with leadership?

Maybe there could have been a few of the Alliance who thought she was too young and feisty to fill her father's shoes. Theoretically, she's only mid-twenties at most in ESB. It would be a nice thread to bring in to the middle trilogy of Leia proving herself worthy of taking on her father's part in the Rebellion.

Maybe that's why she was so reluctant to leave Echo Base. She felt that her leadership had failed with the Empire finding and destroying the base and was desperately trying to keep things together, even while the base is falling around her ears.

Maybe that's why, as Obi Jeewhyen says, she's such a moody cow in ESB - she's angry that the base fell on her watch, she's angry that Solo dragged her away, she's angry that they're stuck in a malfunctioning "bucket of bolts" being chased further and further away from the rest of the Rebellion by the whole Imperial fleet,...

she's angry because she feels she's not living up to her father's legacy.

Thoughts?

Leia's Role in the Rebellion

As for Lando and Han being generals, it would be nice to think that it was the result of a pissing contest between the two of them. Han makes a big deal about Lando being a general and then Madine reveals that Han is a general too! Doesn't Lando give Han a sidelong glance at that point?

Besides, why would a general be in charge of ships? It doesn't make any sense!

Leia's Role in the Rebellion
Time
I always concluded that Echo was the base of operations of the Rebel Alliance and their only base, at that.

It satisfies me to think that Leia remained Princess Leia Organa and never took a military rank. I do not think that this disqualifies her from being part of the leadership of Echo Base, as she clearly is. Look at the way General Rieekan relates to her.

I think it fits with her character to go and do a job which needs doing. As Scruffy has indicated, she would have been unable to continue the work she had been doing due to the Empire knowing she is part of the Alliance, the destruction of her homeworld and the impossibility of her continuing to use her role as a Senator for whatever purpose.

I don't see her as the sort of person who would boast to the Allaince of being "a career politician" or as someone who would see service of the cause as "subordinating herself to the military establishment". She strikes me as a much more practical and down-to-earth person than that.

I think her rank in the Rebellion, achieved through the years preceding ANH, would not have been lost due to the events in ANH. It would mean that she couldn't continue to do the same things that she had been doing, but it wouldn't mean that the Alliance would throw her aside, unless she was of no use to them. The fact that they didn't and she went on to be part of the leadership of the hidden Rebel base is testiment, I feel, to the fact that she was still of use as a leader in the Rebel Alliance.

I further feel that it is a bit of a guess to say that all the highest ranking people were with the fleet. We don't even know that the fleet had been assembled by the start of ESB. If my conclusion that Echo Base was the one and only base of operations that the Alliance had is correct, I think it follows that the leadership of that base would be key members of the Alliance.

I think that it works if we consider Leia as a member of the leadership of the Rebel Alliance, perhaps taking her father's place after his death.

Oooh... a thought for the 'What did the PT need?' thread...
