I try to consider both sides (or more) of any issue I'm confronted with where there's a difference of opinion. I watched Ady's preview clips and dug out my DVDs to watch the original version. I have to say I agree with Ady on this.

I did the same thing. I thought, "Hmm, maybe BmB has a point. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and try to see it his way." I tried, but I just couldn't find any legitimate reason why one rebel killed in the escape dramatically alters the outcome or changes the tone of the entire battle/movie. It just doesn't, as far as I'm concerned. It's a very minor change that only heightens the emotional intensity of that scene. Until they jump to hyperspace, they are not totally safe, and I think at that moment in the film, we should feel elation, but also the sinking feeling that this victory will only further engender the wrath of the Empire. The rebels scored a victory, thanks to the ion cannon, but "they're not out of the woods yet" as they say.

It's a beautifully done sequence by adywan.

If it was simply a galaxy deteriorating under the thumb of the Empire, then it would be technology from the PT deteriorating. Instead, it's as if the sleek tech of the PT were destroyed and replaced with less-advanced tech. That makes no sense, which is why Ady is going to try to fix it.

At Bespin, in the 1980 version when Vader falls back in the carbonite chamber, he says "AAAARR". In the newer version (from 1997 and forward) he says "OOOF", the same line reprised as when Luke put the fog in Vaders face a short moment before. Is Adywan going back to the original line? I think that when you fall backwards, it's more likely that you actually say "AAAARR" instead of "OOOF"!

^

HERE IS AN ACTUAL NEW SUGGESTION that has gotten lost amid rehashes of old debates that were settled a year ago.

 Alright, how 'bout this?

I totally think you should take these ideas and make your own fan edit with them. That would be the best way to achieve your vision of Star Wars. Ady had little/no editing skill before he started the Revisited project, and look at him now! You're not really going to sway anyone here by presenting a dramatically reinterpreted vision of the OT. It's not really that your ideas are "bad", but they are incompatible with what Adywan is trying to achieve.

That shot is absolutely gorgeous. Well done again, adywan!

My one and only criticism would be the blinking lights. There are so many that they become the dominant feature in the shot for me. Maybe it's because they flash so quickly and they're all in synch, they don't seem real somehow. I would think the bottom lights, which are larger than a man, would take a little longer to cycle on and off. Is it possible to slow them down a bit?

Don't know if it's just me, but after seeing DE's version again, I think I prefer his camera movement just a wee bit to Ady's. I'm not sure why, but DE's feels more "natural" -- perhaps it's because DE keeps the vane centred in the shot more than Ady? I don't know.

You gave me reason to compare the two and there are differences. They're both aerial shots, but DE's camera is in the front of the helicopter, pushing in on a point to the lower front edge of the vane below the gantry; while ady's helicopter is flying over the vane toward the left as the camera pans down and to the right. In short, DE is flying under while ady is flying over.

Ady's vane has also been shrunk a little, probably to allow for such a flyover effect, and to make the space seem more vast.

I really like both, but I prefer ady's shot because it's a push and a pan, so it's more dynamic.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

It's just one of those things I never noticed. I grew up in the late 1980s watching Star Wars in a top-loading VCR, recorded from ABC (I think) broadcasts (commercials intact), displayed on a fuzzy TV with dials, in its own cabinet and speakers, that sat on the carpet. I saw the VHS and DVD special editions a couple times, but was so disappointed with some of the changes that I never bought either, and didn't watch much Star Wars until the prequels disappointed me and I went back and watched the original trilogy and was reminded of just how good they are once you look past the questionable revisions. Then I found this place a few years ago, and fan-edits like this one restored my memories, and in some cases improved upon them, like noticing for the first time that Threepio's right leg is silver throughout the trilogy!

Or maybe I'm just dense. ;)

After 1000 pages and 3 years, I find it ridiculous that there are people like Sevb32 who STILL act as if adywan doesn't know what he's doing.

Listen: ANYTIME you think you have caught adywan doing something he shouldn't, or doing something the wrong way, or not doing something he should, stop and remind yourself that ADYWAN HAS ALREADY THOUGHT ABOUT IT.

I can't believe I even have to say this.
