That's badass! Thanks for sharing the full responses!

I am truly sorry for the derailment with that article. Should have expected the silly responses, and timing was not good. I guess I innocently thought that folks would either read and move on, or something.

As to the question about where music is drowned out, I do not know of a good example off the top of my head, but can suffer an SE viewing to see if I can find a good moment.

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)

I turned it off normally and then it just wouldn't turn back on and I tried all the tricks in the book but it really seems to be totally dead now.

Also, I did get another 2GB RED drive for the system (256GB partition) and non-esential data storage (the rest of the HDD) ages ago.

 Well that's sad :(

I think we all crave some shiny 2.0 goodness for the next 2..

"all the tricks in the book" ...including re-seating RAM? Sometimes RAM is flaky. Try removing one stick at a time? Just throwing stuff out there, hoping it isn't the board. Either way, it does suck!

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

Dropping by to say thanks to all involved in this project!
Have been waiting patiently, and discovered last night that it's been available for a few days now. I was very excited to be able to enjoy this!!!

The original looks really good, and I'm very impressed so far. Haven't had a chance to fully appreciate it yet, but can't wait to plop in the disc as soon as I can. Only had time to fire up VLC and check the main clip out for a few minutes last night before passing out, but it was very nice!

Will also be checking the '97 edition out, as that still has a bit of nostalgia for me - I got to see those versions in the theater (after growing up with the VHS editions), and even with all the wacky changes, it was still cool to see it on the big screen. Thanks for the efforts on this version too! Well worth the work, as these seem to be all but forgotten by so many who've seen nothing but later SE versions over the years. Can't wait to check it out as well.

All that said, it was the "v3" editions that first hit me - and now seeing this, it's just.. it's something that warms my heart. It's so nice to see Star Wars in the "pure" form here, and I look forward to the other two. Sure, I like some of the other projects quite a bit, not going to lie, and I know that some parts were based on this work (which I very much appreciate as well, as do many others) but it's so nice to see this effort become a reality and succeed.
Can't thank you enough, again, for all the efforts, all the time, all the headaches, all the chaos, all the forum silliness, all the EVERYTHING you have all gone through, to make this a reality. It's very nice to see this edition in all its glory, and I sincerely thank you.

Nice ideas, for sure, but there are a couple of points in favor of standard menus.

The big one is that, with so many audio tracks, it'd be far nicer to have them fully listed and selectable.

The other factor is home theater systems. Many have the player rack mounted. You wouldn't want the thing to just start rolling before you are ready to sit down and settle in to watch it.

I'm still curious why multi avchd isn't "hackable" to extend its audio menu. There's got to be a way to change it above 16 or whatever.

I tried to build a menu and make my own BD. Let's just say that my Vanilla Coke has a new place to sit.

BD menu authoring is no joke, I use MultiAVCHD but it's just a simple menu so the movie doesn't start as soon as I pop it in.

Is there any Blu-ray software that will allow for better menus with several audio tracks that are affordable?

Plenty, but they all suck. Most reencode video. Most have an audio track limit that is well below the total that are in the mkv. There was one awhile back that was somewhat promising, but I think it cut off audio menu at 16 tracks.

Eventually, it'll either take a pro level program, or some way to modify multi avchd to allow more audio tracks.

THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!

I now have 29,097.21CZK, which I just transferred to my bank-account (this will take at least a couple of days) and then I can buy the parts and even throw in better PSU and case!

Hell yes! Don't sweat a crazy case, lol. Glad it's all coming together. I think it's a well deserved thing to build and hope it totally rocks.

True. Just thought I'd see if that might've changed. 2 disc cases are no biggie :) (edit: or, using 2 separate cases - either way)

Really wish I had a printer that printed directly on the disc for disc labels, but everything else is easily lined up.

Exciting news on the extras / scripts!

edit: if any more English grammar proofreading is wanted, I'd be glad to review.

Random question - any thoughts on still making this a 2 disc effort when the authoring gets closer to happening? Just curious if it might be possible to squeeze the special features onto one disc.
Only reason I ask, is that I want to know if I should look for any dual disc cases ahead of time (already have a stack of standard blu ray cases that I got some time ago).

Any input on authoring software, or was one settled on for when the time comes?

Lol, yeah, I wouldn't worry too much. Pass the guy a link. The bio says he's a contractor. Did the address say it came from his contractor's domain? Either way, there's no way they haven't caught some wind of it.

Think about it though, it's such a fractional minority of fans. I'd still call it plenty "under the radar."
What they should do is just say "look, Harmy, here's your new office, now, let's work out the authoring and package it up..." ;)

Of course, they probably won't, but they'll probably also never bother messing with the edits done here.

Please no comments about just using the MKV and using a streaming device (which i already have...) and telling me how physical media is dead, blah blah blah. Or telling me to just wait...

May be not the best way to end a question when looking for an answer ....

Google can help you though .....

that is just making a Blu from existing files, not converting the MKV. Unless I missed something...

and the only reason for my "end" is that is often the "answer" people give. Nothing to really answer the question...

TANSTAAFL

Sometimes the price of knowledge is patience and politeness.

And I would wholeheartedly disagree with you on "There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch". Harmy provides us with his fabulous work for "free", I'm using free tools (at the moment) to do this work.

On any forum, it seems there are those that will help and those that just want to tell you "their thoughts" on why you are doing it wrong. I see it all the time in this thread alone. And I have Googled a million ways to make a BD from a MKV and they almost always lead to TSMuxer, which wouldn't even open the MKV I had. It would remux the files, so I am trying something on my own, thank you very much.

One step in between - you have to de-mux the mkv to have the .mp4 video and audio tracks, which then import into tsmuxer.

To do this, you'll need to browse the program folder of mkvmerge - look for mkvextract gui. Once you've de-muxed the .mkv file, you'll have one video file, and tons of audio - include all, or just what you want in tsmuxer, and you'll have a folder set that can be burned with imgburn.

At first, I missed that step as well. Hopefully this helps :)

Can anyone PM me or post the best way to convert the MKV to a BD WITH a Menu and retaining all the audio tracks? I have demuxed the whole thing, and tried rebuilding it in DVD Architect but it didn't like the DTS files, nor the H264 video. I tried renaming the h264 to mp4 etc...and nothing seemed to work. Please no comments about just using the MKV and using a streaming device (which i already have...) and telling me how physical media is dead, blah blah blah. Or telling me to just wait...

tsmuxer is what others here have used for a basic disc. No menus, but it all burns successfully, and you can cycle through audio tracks. If you only want a couple audio tracks, you can choose what you want.

For now, I'm happy having the disc I burned as a physical copy that seems to play in players/PS3 just fine.

There are also trials out there for other software which should do what you're after. Some pages ago (maybe 10?), there was a good demo out there that looked promising, but had some kind of audio track/menu limit, IIRC.

I'm curious, is there an ACVHD Disc ISO available for v2.5? I don't have access to a BD burner but I'd love to have a playable disc.

Not officially though you can theoretically make one from the mkv of 2.5 using "mkvextractGUI" (part of MKVToolnix).
You'd have to re-encode the video to something with a lower bitrate, and would probably *not* be able to fit the lossless audio soundtrack in, unless that's the only one you wanted.

You'd be re-encoding from this source, and not the sources Harmy is using (which are undoubtedly starting out at a higher bitrate, at least, much of it), you won't have quite the same quality as you would if it were encoded directly from him. I'm sure it's possible to get a decent enough re-encode with enough trial and error, but it wouldn't end up being quite as good as the 2.1 version, because he started with his sources, and you'd be re-encoding from something that's already been re-encoded. I do hope that makes sense.

The differences are relatively minor between 2.1 and 2.5. Betting that the 2.1 AVCHD would still be very much worth your while to burn and enjoy. BTW, if you haven't looked in some time, blu ray burners are getting way cheaper than they used to be.

Actually, we may as well try to push past the safe boundaries with the DeEd, it might make people bother to try setting up their TV's better.  I hate to think of how many people will watch it in a way that doesn't reflect Harmy's original vision.

(That and it may also help get people to turn off motion compensation while they're poking around in their TV's settings, that psychedelic madness must end!)

Strongly disagree. There's good reason for them, and everything should fit, or be made to.. Besides, it'd look nice to have some kind of border, people are used to it.

On another note, that software looks promising! Hoping to see some results soon! Would be awesome to get this closer to "done"
