Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

I watched most of the movie all the way through last night before finally going to sleep towards the very end. Regarding brightness, I see some of the darker scenes as less an issue now, as my TV(s) (I started on one, then to bedroom TV, which is not as good) are better suited to watch than my PC monitor.

The color issue is, however, definitely a bit awkward in places, and I see why a "2.1" is due. Pretty much agree with the previous posts on this, and am very glad that Harmy is going for a few changes there. Not that it's terrible, but I can see the use in re-rendering one more time with some tweaks in color (and hopefully a tiny [and I do mean very tiny] bit of contrast, plus and minus) in places.

No more "crap mattes" - fucking unreal! Pardon my cursing, but, damn that is nice! I basically sat down very late last night to "just watch it" and the experience was very enjoyable, cannot wait to sit down and properly watch in a more "awake" state!

Cool - I'll be sure to get the audio fixed :)

Didn't have much time to really sit down and enjoy it last night, but did check through a couple spots for a few minutes. Couple interesting comparisons on 1.0 vs. 2.0 really stood out though - the darkness of some scenes (Falcon in hangar bay of Death Star seemed most dark and lost detail on edges/starfield). Really surprised by that, and a couple of others where contrast seems a bit extreme in the other direction (Obi next to speeder shot, for example).

I'm fine with higher contrast in brighter scenes more so than the extreme dark.

Other than a few spots like that (and, I suppose the 'green' tint/scale as already discussed), it's freaking damn impressive and quite awesome.

Not sure how others feel about some of the darker spots in 1.0 vs 'remastered,' but if at all possible, I would personally prefer (a little more of) the 1.0 type of "visibility" in a few of the aforementioned scenes. Perhaps the re-coloring would take care of some of that, in and of itself, I don't know. On the positive side, there are some really interesting bits of detail that are there, which is pretty impressive. Guessing that's due to the inclusion of newer source material in some places, and which probably also makes it a pain in the ass to have to try getting colors/contrast/etc. all back the way you want. Looking forward to an even better 2.1 with the fixes you intend to do!

Hoping to get time this evening and over the weekend to simply absorb all of it. Been cracking out on the thread here, doing lots of reading. Unbelievably wonderful project Harmy, this fan is truly humbled to be able to share in this experience, and I thank you so much for putting your efforts into everything.

I really can't wait to get home and check these out. Not going to lie, I'm probably going to have to give a small review, but will wait for any full critique until the 2.1 is final.

Couple questions - First, I've been skimming this thread a lot, trying to catch up, and it's just been incredible to read all the bits and pieces. Can't wait for "2.1" to be finalized! Incredible to see some of the differences even between 1.0 and 2.0. Excellent that you have done all of this Harmy, just excellent work all around! I'm sure that "just watching it" will totally blow me away... I'm also really hopeful to show this to my girlfriend, who claims not to have seen Star Wars in ages. THIS would be the version to view, IMO.

Ok, questions - first, I got an edition that is "Fixed_DeEdv2.0" - do I still need to mess with audio? I'm familiar with mkvmerge, so no problem if audio needs to be re-muxed.

Second - regarding avchd... I hate to ask, but if someone would be so kind as to pm a spleen invite my direction, it'd be very appreciated.. would LOVE to be able to watch this at a friend's house who has a nice setup, but for which MKV might be troublesome.
- - - - Edit - - - nevermind... found my way to "teh" other place and got all that sorted.. wouldn't mind an invite I guess, but no rush ;)

Currently found what I did on n e w s groups, which, THANK YOU to whoever put what they did on there! Just can't seem to find that darn AVCHD version (for SW 2.0 anyway).

That's kind of what I gathered, but wasn't quite sure, as I've been reading through things and trying to catch up with all of it.

Thank you for the info - this will still most definitely be quite a feat to experience even the "1.0" versions of these.

Extremely exciting to see all the work done here. I can't wait to see it all in motion :D

I haven't visited these forums in a long time. First, when I heard about the blu ray changes coming, I discovered this place, and found the dark_jedi v3 DVD info out there. At the time, this seemed like my best option for a simple transfer for ease of playback etc. but I didn't find any simple HD options (I may not have looked hard enough).

This looks fantastic. Been examining lots of the screenshots, which describe some immense amounts of work on all this. Incredible. Unbelievable. Awesome.

Currently getting v2, and the "AVCHD" versions of ESB/ROTJ.

Maybe I missed this, but is there any other version out there? The first one is a much larger mkv (v2), and the rest are in AVCHD format? I would think all three would have same release format, at least for consistency, but perhaps not? Just looking for any clarification on the available renditions to be sure to get the best ones.

My original 2006 DVDs are nice to have, but I am immensely thankful for projects which have taken things to the next level and made these films so much more enjoyable on modern equipment. Thank you all for the incredible work in making this possible. When I first saw the list of sources for this "despecialized" version, I was in disbelief. Truly a massive undertaking. Please don't rush 2.1, I'm sure it'll be well worth the wait!

...itching to see these soon... cannot wait to settle in to a "movie night" with these new renditions. Can't say thank you enough - thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

Hello, new here, but great to find this forum!

First, I'm glad others share in wishing to preserve the original versions - "GOUT" as I've learned...

THANK YOU dark jedi!!!

After hearing about the new blu ray release, it got me thinking about my '06 DVDs and how I used to also have a LD boot from somewhere around '04 (I think it was around the time those DVDs were released, and were NOT theatrical..).  After sampling the '06 set on my newer TV (I had yet to do this, believe it or not), I realized that even with zoom (from either TV or WMC), it just didn't look all that nice.

I then started playing with what I could, thinking it'd be nice to have a "better version."  After a day or so, I started thinking "surely, somebody else has done this, and probably better than I could."  ...It is truly appreciated that such a thing has been done.  It's just sad that there is no better transfer from which to work - a proper HD transfer may come someday, I hope, but until then, I'm just glad a "better than 'GOUT' version exists"!!!  I'd stumbled into this thread via various searches on the topic of the original theatrical version, and also a nice review at savestarwars.com.

These 'v3' sets are very nice I must say, especially the care taken with the audio tracks, and having an anamorphic set that doesn't need to be messed with is simply priceless.

I grew up with my dad showing us the original 80's VHS versions of these movies.  Though it was interesting to see the 90's remasters in theaters, and was quite awesome to see the movies on a big screen, the "theatrical" ones are what I know and care about.  By my estimation, the latest blu ray set would be the 5th major versions/revisions of these movies - that's flat out crazy IMO (theatrical, '97, '04, '06, 2011 - I could be missing something here...).

Anyway, just had to give a shout here and thank those who put so much work into the properly re-released "GOUT" that is 'out there' ;)  I am impressed, and very thankful!  Can't wait to sample the 720p versions when they're ready :)
