So they have changed Obi-Wan's roar again. I'm dreading to think what it sounds like this time especially when they said it will sound more human and that it will sound like someone. OH god. It's probably going to be a sample of Anakin shouting "I Hate You!!". Or maybe the human bit is to lead us off the scent when it is in fact jar Jar. That would actually explain why the Sand people ran off like that.

The old (original)sound effect was perfect. some things just don't need changing

Here is my guess: they changed it in 2004 to sound as if Obi Wan was imitating the call of the Boga lizard from Revenge of the Sith. But ROTS was still in early post production at that time, and they ended up altering what the final Boga sounded like, so that once ROTS was out the ANH call didn't sound like anything recognizable anymore.

So maybe they will be updating it to sound more like the way the Boga lizard actually sounded like in ROTS, rather than the bizarre and random creature effect in the 2004 version.

This would be stupid in the first place though, since Tusken Raider's shouldn't know the wildlife calls of a species that lives on a completely different planet.

This was my thought about the new howl at first but now they are saying that it's going to sound more human  and sound like someone we know. So i can't see it being the boga lizard. Maybe they will CG Obi-Wan flapping his arms shouting.....

IT'S A TRAP!!!!!!

LOL

No but seriously, I don't think a large Lambda shuttle would be used by a mere Captain........Needa just isn't that posh like Palps & Vader....or Tarkin........maybe Piett.......The TIE shuttle should have stayed........out of focus, let your mind fill in the blanks, it doesn't have to be the repeditive Lambda class.

But I know Ady has his mind set on this....so I'll not bring it up again.

J

No but seriously, I think you might be a tad wrong, if I may point out that in the next film a Lambda shuttle is used for "mere" crew and technical parts for the forrest moon.

Not even Piett or his Lieutenant bats an eye at the Lambda shuttle, so I think they are are used quite often, the question is, should Vader and the Emperor arrive in mere cargo and crew shuttles?

Yeh, that's one thing that's being changed in ROTJ:R. The Tydirium is going to look more like a cargo shuttle. I never understood why they used the same design as a ship that carries dignitaries.

What about shot of Vader on board of Executor coming out from the shuttle? Someone can say that it's meaningless too but Vader is AWESOME!!! :D
Meaningless reuse of alternate takes from Return of the Jedi, you mean. ;-)

I know.....still If scene will go out from edit i would miss it :D

Idea: So how come no one has made a less-painful fan edit of the Star Wars Holiday Special?
Time

Maybe i should do a Holiday Special:Revisited. (When i am declared clinically insane after finishing the saga) lol

I've never been able to sit through the whole thing and have only watched a few bits here and there. I just couldn't put myself through it. But cut out the special guests and the songs then it might be more watchable

Some interesting takes on some of the shots you showed us here ady.

I like you went to a 3d way solution rather build props for the transports. hoping for more 3d action for sure :)

It can be interesting seeing some ships coming out of the hangar cave(if its kept) or some distant smokes behind the mountains from the aftermath.

-Angel

I'm only using CG for things that i can't film with real models. Trust me, if i could have got hold of a good scratch built studio scale model of the transport i would have used that. CG should only be used that way. To use to film impossible things. Never when a real world object could be used especially when sets are concerned. Too many films go over the top with CG and it's one thing that is wrong with a lot of  today's filmmakers. They just don't think how it could be filmed for real but instead they just say " i want this to happen so let's just CG it". Crap film making at its finest

And there are already ships coming out of the hangar and you wouldn't see any smoke behind the mountains because the battle was taking place to the right of the camera

I don't know, I listened to the 2004 mix and it wasn't that bad. And of course the sound will be fixed for the Blu-Ray (7.1 sound, anyone?).

I wouldn't bet on the sound being fixed. And the mix wasn't that bad? Seriously? Not only did the mix have the music flipped in the surround channels, as has already been mentioned along with all the other things, but just take a listen to the detention cell shoot-out scene and then tell me it isn't that bad. Just listen to it in surround sound and keep your ears on the front left and right channels. Now watch where the laser blasts hit and when Han is shooting. Han is on the right side of the screen yet the laser sound comes from out of the left channel. Then when blasts that hit the left or right side of the screen the sound effect comes out of the opposite channel. It never happened in any of the other previous mixes including the 5.1 track on the SE laserdiscs. The mix is a piece of garbage.

I've always felt it was possible to save this one shot where we see Vader's shuttle leaving Bespin. It doesn't throw the music off, and you get the visual confirmation that he's made it back to the Executor. IMO, the best of both worlds

Vader's shuttle

I have to disagree.

Movies are supposed to be about show, not tell. The work has already been done.

It's a quick snippet.

It gets the info across.

It doesn't affect the film is any negative way like keeping the whole scene would.

Personally, I can't see any downside in keeping it.

I can't disagree more about this. The info doesn't need to be added by seeing the shuttle go to the Executor. And it certainly does affect the film in a negative way.  The whole scene flowed beautifully along with the great score by John Williams in the pre SE version. Now these abominations of adding worthless scenes were added and that flow is gone and the score is hacked up. And keeping even one shot would still screw the sequence up in both the flow and the musical score.  Why GL felt that we had to see Vader travel to the Executor is beyond me. Everything that we needed to know was originally there in one line "Bring my shuttle". So what was Vader going to do with the shuttle if not head back to his ship? Was he going to go on a sight seeing tour? No. This added scene was just another unnecessary Ric Olie moment.

Every single added scene from the SE's during the escape from Bespin is gone, as it should be.

And Needa's shuttle was changed to a Lambda class shuttle so there is still a shuttle in the movie

Just curious, but why did Ady decide to make Ben ignite his saber before Vader in the duel in ANH:R? Everything he does is well thought out, so what was the reason?

Almost every other times we see a Jedi ignite his sabre he ignites it first. So i had Obi-Wan ignite it first. He knew just how dangerous Vader was and it's also a defensive thing. It also mirrored their first encounter, which is why i used the music. And another reason was it was the best shot to have Obi-Wan ignite his sabre as you can see a twitch in his finger as if he is igniting it. The original sabre ignition shot just looked like someone twisting their hand to reveal the blade

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Regarding the Star Wars Blu-Ray release next year, Matthew told me that in 2004 he had to remix Episode IV for a 5.1 mix, and the whole thing had to be recreated from scratch from the original 1977 version of the movie. This will be the version that is the basis for the Blu-Ray by all accounts.

Well this could explain why ANH audio was so messed up yet ESB & ROTJ was ok. It looks like he only worked on a new mix for ANH.  So we're going to get the same screwed up audio. So if thast's what we're going to get for the audio then you can bet your ass that all we're going to get for the blu-rays are the 2004 transfers and their messed up colours :(

I thought you weren't going to change the SE addition clouds and were matching the new clouds to it. I guess the SE clouds didn't live up to the new ones then...

When looking at the SE ones they just looked fake and dull. There was no life in the skies at all. Plus it needed some blue sky.

The good thing about ROTJ:R is that i don't have to use any GOUT footage at all so no upscaling issues, so this one was possible. The one shot i would need to use from a lower quality source would be the original Anakin ghost, but i can use one of the SE broadcasts for that as it worked perfectly well with the Emperor in my ESB 97' 1080p reconstruction . But who knows what will be on the Blu-rays

Don't have to use GOUT? OMG, what about Lapti Nek? Or are you leaving that out altogether?

I never liked Lapti nek and hated jedi rocks. That scene will be getting a bit of a change

Wait, what? Did I miss something?
Ok first off, WOW Janskeet!!

But uhm, an ESB '97 1080p reconstruction? That's the first I've ever heard of. Is this still a work-in-progress or a finished release?

Speaking of funding, how does that work? I'm getting more and more enticed to do so, quite honestly. Although it won't be as much as Janskeet, I'm sure every bit and bob will help ;)

The '97 ESB 1080p has been available for a while now

Will the "jogging" Star Destroyer at the beginning be fixed?  As the camera pans with the probe droid and the Star Destroyer disappears in the top right of the frame, it shifts in a manner that is not condusive to the starfield or the camera movement.  That has always bugged me.

Here's the first 2 minutes of ESB:R as it stood 2 years ago. As you can see the stardestroyer movement has been changed
