on-topic...Julia Roberts rules (FB'ers will understand)

What ?... A remake ?... A role as Leia ?

no. lol. i did one of the quizzes on facebook about julia roberts and got 100% then did a star wars one and got a question wrong (although i know i clicked on the correct answer). I'm so ashamed i'm just going to sit in the corner hanging my head in shame.

Ok, some breaking news that might just redeem my shame.

Recently i have been having a chat with an ex member of these boards who has been a very great supporter of this project. You may remember Janskeet and that he funded the tibetan lamb fur needed to make the wampa as realistic as possible. Well we had been chatting about the blu-rays coming out next year and he asked if it would be possible for me to do ROTJ:R in 1080p. i told him that there was just no way of doing something like that with my setup as it is borderline doing ESB:R in 720p as it is. Next thing i know he had offered to fund a better PC so i could work in 1080p and we got the new parts this weekend. So......

ROTJ:R will be in 1080p :) Thank you janskeet

Even though this has happened ESB:R will still only be 720p. It's just impossible to go back and redo everything in 1080p and too much has already been done .

The good thing about ROTJ:R is that i don't have to use any GOUT footage at all so no upscaling issues, so this one was possible. The one shot i would need to use from a lower quality source would be the original Anakin ghost, but i can use one of the SE broadcasts for that as it worked perfectly well with the Emperor in my ESB 97' 1080p reconstruction . But who knows what will be on the Blu-rays

yes the scream is slightly different and they added an additional grunt. Although the first scream is the same the it was lower in the mix and the first section was cut. I prefer the way it is in the SE so i won't be changing that back

I doubt i would be adding any extra shots of the falcon blasting the troopers. It doesn't really need it and it would need to fit in without ruining the pacing and the music cues

I think when an artist has created something, it should be taken away from them.  Because the true artist is never truly happy with what they create.  They are always striving to better themselves; it's what keeps them trying, and it's what makes them better than so many mediocre artists who are happy to churn out substandard product.

Bull. A true artist knows that it's best to leave something alone once it's finished and never go back to it because there is always the chance that you'll fuck it up. A true artist will move onto the next project and develop their talent this way. Going over the same thing again and again destroys the artists creativity and this creativity then becomes stale

Obi-Wan is lying to Luke about his father wanting him to have the lightsabre.  Perfectly understandable in the context of what we know now.  And isn't the way Alec Guinnes paused before replying to the question "How did my father die?" just perfect?  It's as though Lucas had told him the backstory on the quiet.

Whatever you think you see in Ian's performance in ESB, he is actually wearing different makeup than what he wears in ROTS.  Believe me, I originally thought it was the same but it really isn't.

And those burn marks on Anakin's head in the unmasking?  The entire back of his head is burned; totally consistent with what we see in ROTS.

For me, far from ruining it, the PT actually enriches and deepens the OT.

I'm sorry but you are so wrong.  Anakin & Vader were 2 completely separate characters when ANH was being filmed. He didn't decide to combine the two characters until writing the story for ESB. He then had to try and explain Obi-Wans original conversation in ROTJ with the lame "point of view" explanation.

Again when you see Vader unmasked in ESB & ROTJ they are two different types of  scaring. In ESB GL was toying with the idea of Vader being a mutant with radiation burns. A production sketch exists showing Vader without the mask and as a mutant. This sketch matches how we see him in ESB.

In ROTJ all he had was 2 scars, no burning at all. So it is in no way consistent with what we see in ROTS

And as for Ian in the 2004 Version of ESB, that is the same make-up as he wore in ROTS. It is exactly the same and was filmed during ROTS. Can you provide the proof that backs up your claims that it was different make-up?

The PT screws with the OT and certainly doesn't deepen and enrich it. All the surprise revelations have been destroyed. If you watch the films in numerical order then we already know that Vader is Lukes Dad, that Leia is Lukes sister, that the little green alien Luke meets is Yoda and so on.   Totally destroyed their original impact and the scenes almost become meaningless.

Hey Ady,

I have been quietly following this thread with enthusiasm.  Hope things have settled out for you a bit in recent months.  And I hope that monitor has gotten a ton of use!

In any case, I wonder if you would briefly update us on how things are proceeding as a whole....  Sure, we get bits and pieces from time to time, and they are quite appreciated, but unless we are truly in the KNOW, it is difficult to guess where the project is in its entirety.  Is there a glimmer at the end of the tunnel, yet?

yeh, things are starting to get back to normal now, thanks. The monitor is getting very good use and  looks great on the workstation.

I'm going to get right back on the model making later next week and will start posting some pics shortly after. A few things have to be redone though because they got damaged when transporting them to my Dads for storage while i was having the work done. The completed sections of the asteroid trench have to be completely redone. These were never meant to be moved in the first place but i did hope that they would survive it, but alas they didn't. Shit happens though and you just have to carry on. :)

I'm working hard on the video side of things at the moment. Getting quite a bit done but it's still going to be a June 2011 release so i will be working on it until May .

What do you mean that i may have the same pain to come? (that you put in your reason for editing your last post).

I ment about people selling your hard work on e-bay.

Man, i was only away for a little while and this tread has become long.....

I've already seen this happen. I've caught a few sellers at Memorabilia selling my edits and other peoples and reported them, but this certainly wouldn't have lead to me selling edits,  mine or other peoples. You just catch them, report them and let the authorities deal with the rest. If that is the excuse the OCP was using as a reason for selling edits then he's a bigger dick than i thought.

What about if u missed the forum rulez? Shouldnt u be given some sort of warning?

Like for instance DarkGryphon2048 keep working the evilness, then u may get banned outright

I just googled OCPs edit and it led me here, so i had no knowlage of the rulez many moons ago

OCP became a huge cock on these forums, with things like attacking the X0 project because they were using laserdisc as a source and his classic editions were using the 2004 DVD's so his was superior. He was also warned by Zion about his actions:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/The-X-Project-Laserdisc-on-Steroids/post/207219/#TopicPost207219

I guess when it emerged that he was selling his edits that was the last straw.

But it really shouldn't matter if you have read the rules or not. He claims to be a film maker yet he is willing to sell other peoples work for his own profit. Surely he can't be that thick that he doesn't realise that this is highly illegal and just because he was too dumb not to read the rules isn't an excuse.  It's not as if he was a new member to the fan editing community either so he would have been well aware of the not for profit code of fan editing.

And if your saying the reason he started selling edits is because he was miffed at other people selling his edits on ebay then why the hell would he do the same and sell other peoples edits?

OCP is a scumbag and i'm glad he was banned. I got a copy of his "list" and exactly how much he was charging for them. $30 for a DVD-9 version of other peoples edits: $10 to cover the cost of the DVD if a SL DVD, an extra $10 if this was a DL DVD and an extra $10 if they wanted a printed cover. How the hell can he justify this as "covering costs".And that is without postage. He said it would cost me an extra $10 to post from the USA to the UK, When i know it costs about $3. So if i wanted a DVD-9 version of say Jambe's Building Empire he was going to charge me $40.  Knowing the amount of hard work that people put into their edits and then have someone profit off this is just plain wrong.

I'm surprised he's been able to get away with doing this for so long. Myself and other faneditors provide our work for free and not to have some asswipe then sell our work for his own profit

I always thought they were at the back of the base at this point (bare in mind the falcon just flew out of there a few moments ago if memory serves me correctly) so if the cave entrance was changed slightly it might make more sense.

and for the record - I Fncking LOVE the new shot

Leia explains earlier on in the briefing scene that this is a different entrance.  You can also see that the transports are housed in a completely different hangar than the Falcon. The hangars are all over the place and connected with all the tunnels we see. Plus it's been mentioned that there should be only 1 transport as 3P) says "Your highness, we must take this last transport". Well this isn't a mistake by adding 2 transports. In the briefing Leia says this: "All troop carriers will assemble at the north Entrance. The heavy transport ships will leave as soon as they are loaded." So what we see here are the heavy transport ships and not the troop carriers.

Who Felt Return Of The Jedi Was A Letdown At The Time?
Time

Well i wasn't one of the Brits in 1983 that raved about Jedi and nor did any of my friends. We were all around 16 at the time & all agreed that it was nowhere near as good as ESB & ANH and that it just seemed like a re-hash of ANH. I couldn't believe how bad it was. It looked so cheap (apart from the FX) and the film was so predictable as i had already seen the end climax in ANH. It looked like the Actors had become bored of the movie.

Another thing was the Ewoks. We all hated them. They were just there to sell toys and for the "cute" factor. Even non Star Wars fans who liked the first 2 but thought the Ewoks were stupid. Bloody teddy bears taking on the Empire and beating them?

Jabbas palace another re-hash from ANH's cantina sequence. And the creatures just weren't as memorable. Pig Guards? Had they run out of ideas? This movie had a bigger budget than ANH and better technology but they all just looked like muppets. We all agreed that Jabba was brilliant though

Jedi could have been so much more, but it was a real let down. And is even worse now with the SE version.

What's the beef with Prowse?
Time

Easterhay said:

That doesn't mean a thing.  Lucas is a multi-billionaire (soon to be "merely" a billionaire); is he known for a "Hollywood lifestyle"?  No.

Maybe Prowse doesn't hang out in Hollywood simply because he's quite a curmudgeon and doesn't get on with people?

And yes, bingowings, "really".  What, he turns up at conventions to sign photos of himself as The Green Cross Code Man?  He's known as the man who played Darth Vader.  And he exploits that to the very end.  That's his perogative.  But to publicly diss Lucas and then be so vocal with his negativity, he shouldn't really be surprised to have such a public snubbing from Lucas.

Anyway, what's the money that Lucas owes him?

Well actually when i first met Dave Prowse was when he was doing the Green Cross code promotional tour early 80s. He was the one of the most genuine and nicest person i had ever met. He was dressed as the green cross code man and signing autographs (free). My Dad started talking to him mentioning how much of a huge star wars fan i was. Dave said that he was just about to go for his break and would we like to come back to his trailer and he will sign a Darth Vader picture for me (again for free). Now this was his own time when he was on a break. He chatted to us for ages, posed for photos and signed autographs for me and my brother. He was just about to start work on ROTJ and i asked him what it was going to be about and he said that he couldn't tell me anything. But he invited my whole family down to London for the day and treat us all to a meal and he will see if we could meet the cast. He gave us both his home address and his gym address so we could contact him. Now there was no ego with this guy at all. Unfortunately George Lucas put a stop to it, even though we wouldn't have been near the sets. He didn't give any reason apart from the security that surrounded the film. He couldn't apologise enough, but i completely understood that it was beyond his control. We conversed for the next couple of years but not once did he say anything bad against George Lucas. I saw the piece in the paper about the leaked information and asked him about it. Now his name was cleared but he did say that he wasn't enjoying the filming but said no more. He asked me to send my autograph book and that he would get the casts autographs at the premier as he wouldn't see them until then.

But he then wasn't invited to the Premier.

I really think that Jedi was the turning of GL. He has snubbed DP ever since and the reason he was banned from C5 was because GL himself was going to be there.Even though the reporter gave the true identity of the leak he just didn't back down and treated DP like crap.

Everytime i have met him since he has been the same person, even when he was so ill he couldn't walk, but came to the event because he didn't want to let the fans down.

Now he had always signed his Vader pics as "Dave Prowse is Darth Vader", the same as other actors did around that time , including non star wars. It seems this way of signing an autograph has been twisted to make it mean something it is not. Now if he had signed the pics as " Dave Prowse IS Darth Vader" then that would be different.

Now Anthony Daniels on the other hand is the most egotistical and arrogant ass i have ever met. He was at Memorabilia a few years ago and we went with my daughters young sister, who was about 8 at the time. She was memorised that she was seeing C-3P0 and she took her camera along with her.  Now i had met him a couple of years before and queued for a couple of hours to get his autograph and i asked him if i could get a picture taken with him and he agreed. Now the person that was taking the picture forgot to put the flash on and it didn't take (this was one of his PAs by the way) I said the flash didn't go off and can she take another one, but AD just said "oh that'll do. If you want another picture you'll have to buy another autograph". I couldn't belive it.

Now going back to the next time he was there, we couldn't afford an autograph but i got her to a good spot where she could take a picture of him that the queue didn't block sight of him. He looked over and spotted her trying to take a picture, he turned his back and signalled over to one of his PAs but continued to have his back turned to us. Next thing we know the PA came over and put her hand in front of the camera and said that he won't have any pictures taken of him unless we buy an autograph. Well screw that. She was so upset. That's no way to treat a little kid. But here's a guy that was talking to one of the fans about episode 2  and really slagging off GL because he had got strapped into a puppet harness for days to film "naked" 3P0 only to have the scenes cut from the film and have to re-film it in the grey costume.

Even when DP was asked about the snubbing by GL in "Bring Back Star Wars" he was very gracious about it and not once slagged off GL

I think it's a case of if GL falls out with you he holds a grudge for life.

I'm glad that most work is done with ESB-R. Here are though some questions/suggestions:

1. Is it possible to have the sky still while the tauntaun is attacked by the Wampa? Now the camera is moving up to make it look like the tauntaun is falling.

That's exactly how it's always been since 1980. I have done nothing to camera movements.

And 005 has answered the others :)

Yes you did and it's not right. I don't mind people having different opinions on the oot vs the se's but show some respect to other people and don't be mean.

What, like the same respect you showed us because we refuse to accept the SE as the "True and only" versions of the original trilogy?

And i thought you were going? I'm pretty sure your Mother is calling you.....
