Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Some close up screen shots of the Blu ray demo:

http://www.zonadvd.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=30596

They're totally fake. They supposed to have been taken at the London preview on 14th July. Now for one the TV is fixed to the wall, whereas the TV at the preview was on a stand which was well away from any wall. Then there is the fact that no one at the preview were allowed to get close to the TV to take any pictures. They're Just pictures someone has taken while playing either the 2004 DVDs or the HDTV broadcast. And the text just seems to be a reworded copy from another site. here it is translated:

During the Digital Entertainment Group Europe event, held at the Disney offices in England last night of July 14th, 20th Century Fox showed to the media present clips of about 30 seconds duration from the Blu-ray editions of the Star wars movies.

Not much was seen and due to the exclusivity, taking pictures or videos from the screen was also not allowed, but at least it served to get a first impression about the quality of picture and sound that you'll be able to enjoy. The first two clips were from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (with Yoda and Clone soldiers flying over the battlefield during the Battle of Geonosis), and the one of Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Anakin Skywalker fighting at the end of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Obviously, since both movies were filmed and digitally stored, they looked absolutely perfect - making the most of the 1080p resolution of Blu-ray. They have never looked so good before, not even in HD TV broadcasts or in theaters themselves.

But the surprise arrived with the clip from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. It was the opening sequence of the special edition of the film (when the Star Destroyer catches Princess Leia's ship), the moment when C-3PO shows for the first time in 1080 is impressive. The sparkles from the golden parts of his body with so much detail and shine made you think that the film was made this year instead of 34 years ago. Little else was seen and even though the material displayed was so little, everything suggests that Lucasfilm has done an impressive job with the high definition transfer.

Remember that on September 14 for the first time the complete saga of Star Wars on Blu-ray will be available and that will be the moment to confirm if first impressions are true. The pre-orders have been going on with great success for months.

Oh, and great covers coov :)

Well i got a reply from the person who was at the Blu-Ray preview at the Disney offices and it does look like we are getting the same old crappy transfers done for the 2004 DVD set:

As I was also at the launch of the Original Trilogy DVD box set, and spoke to Lowry Digital, who made the digital masters, it is my belief that the Blu-rays are created from the same masters as the DVDs. However, Lowry Digital originally created either 4k2k or 8k4k masters at the time (my memory is a little vague) not 1080p ones. And I believe it is these that have been used as the basis for the new BD transfers. Certainly, they are considerably better than either the DVD versions or 1080i TV broadcasts.

So only people who have these Apple products are going to be able to get these previews? Why couldn't they have created this app for Android users too? Lucasfilm really does like catering for only a select group of fans

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

Harmy, I take it that you are using footage sourced from the NTSC version of the GOUT. Well for some reason the PAL GOUT ROTJ uses a different master and has a bit more detail than the NTSC version so it may be worth using the PAL version for this scene. I also noticed that there is a small SE change still in that clip. When Leia and Chewie enters and the guy is knocked to the floor, you could originally see the actors neck pop out from underneath the mask, but in the SE they blacked this out

It is pretty entertaining.  It is like a Lucasfilm version of "This is Spinal Tap."

Someone said they didn't know of anyone who did not want the UOT released...

Then Shaft said "I don't"

I replied..  "He meant anyone that mattered"

apparently that was over the line. :)

Looks like the mods have got a soft spot for shat_windbag. He made some personal attacks on me so i reported him but didn't retaliate in the thread. But they kept his post and suspended me.

It seems like anyone that doesn't agree with the 4 idiots, shitdweller, shaft_windbag, kencrappy & jasonTurd either gets suspended or banned. Thee three constantly make personal attacks on members but nothing is done to them, but dare speak out against the prequels or george and they slap you with a ban.

Why did they ban you coov?

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

For those that don't have facebook, here is what i posted over there:

OK guys, here it is. Your chance to own one of the set pieces/ models that are being created for use in ESB:Revisited.

As you may or may not know i am creating new miniature set pieces and models to replace matte paintings and for other scenes, but the cost of getting al the materials needed is beyond my means at the moment, so to be able to afford to continue with these edits i'm solely reliant on donations. . Now i wanted to offer something back to those that donate towards the costs of the materials needed to create all these items. So here is what is going to happen:

Anyone that donates towards ESB:Revisited between 1st July 2011 and the final cut off point for donations, once the cost of the materials has been covered,(i will announce that donations are closed one everything needed has been purchased and any donations made after this time will be immediately refunded/refused) will have their names entered into a draw to win one of these one off items. How it will work is that for every £5 donated that person will be allocated a ticket that will be put into the hat for the draw. So that mean the more you donate the higher the chance of winning.

Now these are the items up for offer with which the winner will be able to make their own choice of which one they prefer):

Rebel shield generator scratch built model

Dagobah miniature set with crashed Xwing (used to replace the matte when Luke first crashes on Dagobah)

Rebel turret gun ( action figure scale) with partial Hoth Battle Trench

Dagobah background diorama (used to replace the matte there the X-Wing is lifted out of the water and flies towards Luke)

A large section of the asteroid canyon (which i will add a damaged TIE fighter fixed to the canyon wall)

Now one of these items will be the main prize, but there are also 10 runners up prizes. Each of the runners up will recive an A3 framed print of the original painting i did for the original ANH:Revisited DVD cover (which is also this sites main profile pic). Each one will be personally signed to the winners by me.

So how can you donate? Well you can donate through Paypal to this email address: adywan@hotmail.co.uk or go to

http://swrevisited.wordpress.com/

and on the main page on the right hand side you will see a small paypal button. Just click on this and it will take you to the donation page.

Now , as i said earlier, i really wouldn't be able to finish this edit without the help of the kind people who have donated towards the materials costs so a huge thank you to you all.

If you do donate then please make sure you include your full name and preferred contact email address in the paypal notes or if using the wordpress link (not sure if it allows you to attach notes)  email me at adywan@hotmail.co.uk  with your full name, the email address you donated with and your preferred contact email address.

All winners will be announced here and will also be contacted through their preferred email addresses.

Now i can't stress enough that any donations towards ESB:Revisited are only used towards the cost of materials so please don't contact me offering any donations in return for a copy of the finished film as these email will be ignored. The Revisited saga will be available for free so if anyone ever offers you a copy in return for payment then please refuse. George Lucas owns Star Wars and not us so i am completely against anyone making any form of profit apart from the legitimate owners of this franchise.

The lifelessness. Ady was tired of looking at black and white space shots!

adywan said :

ah, the biggest problem with what i call the "digital generation". Everything has to be colourful all the time and sometimes to the point of over saturation. A main reason why much of today's effect and films just looks terrible and fake. The OT always had that monochromatic look to it. The colours were never over the top and in your face. The space scenes were always drab with flashes of colour here and there during battles and it worked. Now look at the PT and almost every shot has to be colourful and we all know how much that didn't work. This is one reason i think they added the blue tint to the OT (Ep's 4 & 5 especially) to remove that monochromatic look so it seemed to  be as colourful as the PT. Jedi was a little more colourful than the first 2 so maybe that's why the tint was hardly present in that movie.

You know, i just knew you would have to come in and post something like that even though this has nothing to do with why the TIEs are now blue.  Actually the TIEs have only a subtle tint of blue in the latest version (the video posted is an earlier video before the final colour of the TIEs was finalised). The true colour of the TIEs now is the light grey/blue to match the original colour of the models. Maybe you should actually have read what i wrote before trying to make out i have now contradicted myself.

Angel said:

And what is the real reason for this?

All hail the CG TIEs that made and will make these shots look great.

And it also has nothing to do with CG being used. The reason why i decided to add the subtle tint to the TIEs was because some scenes became too colourless almost like you were watching a black and white film. Now this is all down to the problems with the colour of the 2004 editions. Removing the tint also takes out the subtle tints that should be there (also they were lost because of the added colour tint). There is a huge difference between adding a subtle hint of colour and over the top oversaturated colouring like most of the crappy CG laden films tend to do. In some shots the grey TIEs got lost, especially when they were in front of a stardestroyer

As you can see the final colouring of the TIE's is very subtle and not the oversaturated blue of the originals:

I don't care if he or you or anybody else cares. These projects are such a waste of time anyway. I mean how many times can you upscale the GOUT? There are much better ways of restoring these films.

Someone like adywan has the skills to pull it off, and he almost did with his Empire DVD, but hes more interested in his worse-than-Lucas fan edits.

So anyway have fun going around and around in circles with your restorations. People in the know already have 1080p restored versions of the OOT based on the HD captures. And they will be improved when the Blu-rays come out. But you guys can continue to live in blissful ignorance in your own little world.

Hang on a minute. This was a bit of an overreaction wasn't it just because someone didn't see your post. And i wasn't even involved in this yet you decided to drag me into it and slag off what i do. You seem to think you are a very important person who must not be ignored or they will feel your wrath. Post get lost in a topic all the time, especially when there a lot of posts. Just because d_j didn't reply doesn't mean that he was ignoring you, he could have simply missed your post. He has been pretty busy as of late so surely it would have been better to not fly off the handle and complain like you did.

In fact there was another member that reacted just like you and also claimed to have a list of all the bad frames in the GOUT. So goodbye Jedi_Tray, hopefully once and for all.

Sorry d_j but this really annoyed me.

Looks great!!!  Why were R2's dialogue translation boxes switched?

They weren't. I had to stabilise the image and added new dialogue, but the second time we see it shook so much that it gave a weird effect so i had to reuse the first one again with some tweaks

Ady, noble as it is for you to defend the films over there... seeing posts like that makes me question if it's worth it. *sigh*

You think that's bad? You haven't seen shaft_windbags comments:

Most defenders of the OOT don't even know anymore what they looked like. Sure, Jabba and the music-number could have been executed better but so do countless traditional "Toy'n'Rubber"-effects. But the "new scenes" are just the cherry on top and I'm sure nobody would want to miss any of the little tweaks and improvements the movies have now to offer!

I like it that there is ONE valid version and Lucas makes a clear decision how the movies should be presented. If there are multiple versions one only concentrates an the technical aspects of how the movies are made. To me the story is the most important thing.

Anakins Turn to the Dark Side is carefully prepared.

(On the Greedo shoots first argument) The scene is edited exactly the same. They have just cleared that insanely large smoke-cloud from the original release - so you can see that someone shoots AT ALL!

Star Wars is no showcase for actors. I would never expect an Oscar-nomination for acting for Star Wars. (Alec Guinness? Did he not know about that-idiot) That's not its strength - it's storytelling. And in that respect I have the highest of standards. Read some of the books by Joseph Campbell, C.G. Jung or Christopher Vogler and you will undoubtedly see the genius behind the saga.

The six movies are really alike. So either it's your cup of tea or it isn't. It's like your the mother of twins and you hate one child and love the other. It's just not fair and irrational.

And people who dislike the PT don't know the first thing about Storytelling. That's just my opinion. For me the PT totally hit the spot. The acting was beatifully moving, especially in the love scenes and the final confrontation between Anakin and Padme.

I guarantee that when you hear the Star Wars-Fanfare for the first time in HD-Master Audio and see the razor-sharp Opening-Scroll float into perfect black space every little bickering about Dewbacks, Spirits and Yazeems is instantly forgotten and you just say: "WOW! Let's dive into that wonderful World that is the Star Wars Galaxy!"

How is it selfish when a director on each release enhances the movie-experience and invests so much energy and care to give his latest vision to the fans. He could have said "I don't care! Star Wars sells anyway. Why bother?" but he obviously wants audiences to experience the six-part-Saga as seamlessly as possible. I deeply appreciate it. And no, not every director includes every cut and version on the movies release. It's his choice because it's his vision and only the guy himself can judge wether the movies benefit from it or not. All we can do is buy it or don't. So easy!

As I heard the concept of "midichlorians" for the first time, I thought: "That's interesting, the creator of this world gives us new information on how it works. I wonder what part the midichlorians have to play in further episodes?" And I was not let down. The midichlorians play a major part in inheriting force-sensitivity, in finding the chosen one or in creating life...

The "so called fans" on the other hands just thought: "I don't get it - I hate it!" THATs the lack of respect I was talking about - and it's small-minded.

So true! After all, he DID release the incomplete versions on DVD and the bickering hasn't stopped for one minute. Why should Lucas give in to some conservatists if it doesn't change their view of Star Wars one bit. They still would hate it. Sad... His concern aren't the "fans" but the integrity of his work - as it should be. The Movies Lucas is most satisfied with are the only ones I would want to watch!

What shelldweller wants to know is why a visionary storyteller like Lucas who single-handedly revolutionized the way movies are made and seen draws that much hate on to him? Star Wars is a timeless story that has yet to find it's match in cinemas and people forget that it was not corporate decision, a book-adaption or a remake it came out of ONE MANS IMAGINATION! For petty little "fans" who seem to lack respect for Lucas' achievements there really is only one word: PATHETIC!

Why - don't - you - people - get - it - already!? We are not talking about different cuts of a movie (like with "Donnie Darko" or "the Exorcist" Director's Cuts). The Sequel-Trilogy are with each release the most recently updated Editions of THE SAME CUT! The Sequel Movies ARE to a degree of 99,5 % the same movies you saw in cinemas or on VHS in your childhoods - with just some minor Updates. You already got those movies you want and you will get them again on Blu-Ray - just not with muted colors, scratches and aged effects but an updated version of the movies. You should be grateful and not hateful for that!

The Saga should not just be a nod to a particular childhood memory of one generation - but rather a timeless experience that trancends generations!

Its almost impossible to believe that so many Star Wars fans believe all the bull and are almost like members of a brainwashed cult where their leader can do no wrong.

Adywan - No offense, but I think you've made a mistake registering on blu-ray.com with your famous nickname. I know you have stayed calm about your edits and you have not mentioned them, but there are some people who recognized you there and mentioned them. I know that Lucasfilm is very liberal about fan edits (not like other film studios), but still, you need to be careful. There are many people on blu-ray.com, who can alarm appropriate people from the industry. Considering that you are not coming from third world country and your edits are becoming more and more popular, I think someone might get interested about it.

Just be careful. And congratulations for fighting with those idiots, who are kissing Lucas ass on blu-ray.com - I lost my willingless to do it long time ago.

Thanks for the warning. i don't plan on staying around there too long anyway. I can't stand all the gushers and the way that place is moderated. Reminds me too much of TFN or the old Starwars.com forums. I've already got a couple of gushers against me and are out to get me prosecuted.

Shaft Windu hates that haters like you continue to hate.

lol. It is one of his favourite words towards anyone that doesn't 100% love the prequels and everything George Lucas does.
