The sound for those little video clips of all 6 films on the star wars youtube channel just don't sound right. The little video clips on the starwars aficionado blogspot site and on the walmart site sound so much better. Those audio from those youtube clips will not be how it will sound when the final blu-ray's come out in September.

If only we knew that the colour correction done prior to the files been sent to Lowry included the crushed blacks or if there was more work done after this process.

Slightly off topic, but i was really surprised the other day when i went into my local Currys store and they were playing ESB and the Clone Wars DVDs on their TVs. Now i know thats not surprising because they have the Star Wars promotion with 3P0 & R2 at the moment. What was surprising is this: i wasn't paying much attention to what was playing apart from that it was the scenes prior to them rescuing Luke. But i almost broke my neck because my head turned around so fast when i heard "Bring my shuttle". They were playing the GOUT and NOT the 2004 DVDs. Way to go Currys. :)

Wait a minute, I am confused at what you are saying here, as "Bring my shuttle" was not in the OOT, it was in the SE, so you were watching the '04 DVDs.

" A million OUT Star Wars fans suddenly cried out in terror...then were suddenly silenced..." :) lol

I really wish that " Bring my shuttle" was in the SE. It was a much better line and delivery that they SE's "Alert my stardestroyer that i need to take a dump".

New Blu-Ray video of Mustafar: Fan editors take note: The dialogue & sound effects are isolated in the right channel for the whole video. This doesn't happen on the non-international video though. This would be great it it points to the new mixes for the blu-ray having the dialogue & sound effects isolated in the centre channel.

That story's fantastic, Adywan. It's good to know that some of the general populace prefers playing the theatrical version. After all, the GOUT has no crushed blacks or color issues...

Out of curiosity, Adywan, are you sure it is the GOUT; it would be unbelievable if someone dared to play Harmy's Despecialized, your Reconstruction, or DJ's V3.

yeh, it was defiantly the GOUT they were playing.

Good work! What about the lights? Will you add them to the final cut?

if its impossible to track them all think of using camera projection or plains with light dots.

Or track each part of the ship separately. Camera tracker from the Foundry can help i assume :)

Thanks for using my idea. :)

I haven't worked on this shot for quite a few months now, but as soon as i get back to working on the video side of things again i am hoping to add the lights, but the tracking is a bit of a nightmare thanks to the screen wipe, as this can really throw things out. But if i can't add the lights in the final version then i'm not too bothered. Plus the shuttle isn't finished yet.

I have to say, I like the 2004 gamma levels better a lot of the time. In half the shots, you don't get any more real detail but more importantly the blacks just look milky and you have this thin haze on a lot of stuff. As was said, even the black bars are greyer. This isn't the solution--you aren't doing a new D.I. and timing it brighter, you are just turning up the brightness on the TV basically.

The sad truth is that this is the best they can do if they don't want to do a new scan. Unfortunately, since they are starting with an already-colour-corrected source, the detail is "baked in," and so are the shadows. It's not the same as working with the negative and re-timing it to have brighter levels. Instead they just did the same thing as turning up the brightness on the TV, but it doesn't always look good, in fact in some cases it looks worse.

these screenshots are using the studio scale (16-235) that is standard from DVD & Blu-Ray encoding. The HDTV shots are using PC scale (0-255) . The official shots should have been converted for viewing on a PC/ web site and this is why the blacks will look grey. Now i these are supposed to be from the digital files and not the blu-ray then surely they should be 0-255 scale, which really makes me think that these are indeed direct from the blu-rays. And nothing really has changed with the colour timing.

so you have now been banned at blu-ray.com cowboy for posting the exact same rants that kenkraly constantly posts, yet he gets no ban? Figures. Very one sided over there.

Oh, and thanks see you auntie, Nien Numbs voice doesn't sound changed in that clip. I guess if they can't encode videos properly for the official star wars youtube channel, then what hope is there for the blu-rays ;)

With all this talk about the colour timing changed, has it been confirmed that they are actually talking about the Original trilogy and not the PT? Because almost every screenshot that is now available from the OT has the same colouring as the 2004 versions, yet the PT has had some colour timing changes. TPM of course, but just look at the Kamino shots. The colour timing here has been altered a lot. The battle between Obi-Wan & Jango outside is now green, whereas before it was more blue. The colour timing here too has changed the colour of Obi_wan's lightsabre to cyan.

George does love his cyan ;)

I really hope that this isn't an indication of the new sound mix. Talk about a noticeable jump in audio sources for the dialogue. Just check out the the line straight after:

Luke "we've got to do something"
Han "what are you talking about

then just hear how different the next line sounds .I don't remember it being this noticeable before

Plus, if these are supposed to be taken from the blu-ray then what colour timing changes have they done, because they are identical to the 2004 versions?

maybe an off topic question but is there ever going to be any other film franchise to be revisited after star wars?

After i have finished the  Star Wars Revisited saga i will be retiring from any sort of fan edit. Plus there aren't any films that i am as passionate about as Star Wars so i think i would probably lose interest pretty quick

With all the work that is going into the Revisited saga i was thinking that maybe the Fox opening also needed a revamp. The original one looks a bit tired and old, so i decided to create a new version. So this is the new versions that will appear in all versions of Revisited from now on

Well all that confirms that Anti-matter is truly the biggest egotistical knob jockey of the fan editing community. But what made me laugh was the line .." competing fan editing websites...". lol. I really wouldn't say that there is much of a competition when his site has fuck all members compared to the other sites. And his only seems to have his own edits and a few others on there. Can't really call that incestuous site much of a fan community. say anything negative and get banned. You must stroke Ant-Matters ego to become privileged.

Now, i haven't seen his edit but the way that they are bigging it up you would think it was the second coming. What a Wanker.

I've often thought that if we ever get organized enough to have an OT convention, we should invite kenkraly to be a guest keynote speaker. Now I'm not sure, maybe we should invite anti-matter instead.

He would probably only come if he had top billing, provided with a huge throne that would need to be situated away from anyone else in the prime position and if anyone mentioned any other fan editors or say that they didn't like one of his edits  then they would have to get instantly evicted.

Deleted scenes on the 2011 BD...
Time

The Biggs scene in the hangar was shown on TV programs over here in the UK before the movie came out just with on set audio. I remember finally getting to see the movie when it came over here and wondering why it wasn't in there. Back then i didn't have a Video recorder so i use to record everything that had any star wars material off the TV using my old hand-held tape recorder. I would listen to all these clips, interviews etc all the time and the Biggs scene was one of these.  So it is possible that you may have seen this clip on TV

I never did like Kenkraly's insistence that the collars would be fixed, but... wow.

It doesn't seem that way for Empire though:

Exact same colouring as the 2004 versions. I was really hoping that they would have fixed the horrible cyan colouring, but i guess they haven't :(  They have fixed the puppeteers arm in that shot but why is there a frame curvature in there fixed section in the bottom left?

EDIT: oops, my bad. i was comparing it on my ESB:R timeline where i have a slightly tweaked version of the 2004 which has a cyan hue change. Comparing it to the proper 2004 track it is actually slightly different but it looks like they have actually boosted the blues, as can be seen in the shaded area of the tauntaun's horns

The worrying thing is that it looks like they boosted the highs (brightness) a lot in this picture. If they ahve done this throughout ESB then we're in for a mess because it was already too bright which resulted in blown out images (just check the SE windows in the walk to the dining room scene in the 2004 version. All the detail is blown out)

The bit of that interview that really makes me laugh is this:

Luckily we are both huge star wars fans(Wood and Dave Accord--clone wars sound designer) so it was not hard to do because if things were not right you just felt it.

We used our huge fandom as well as our professional prowess to make it work.

I guess they aren't such big fans as they thought then because if they thought that the swapped surround channels and the effects coming out of the incorrect left & right speakers in certain parts sound right, then they don't know the film at all. lol

Yet the audio mixes for the Clone Wars cartoons is amazing, so why was the 2004 mix so bad?. If only, when they remix these movies, they would do it the same way as the cartoons, with clean dialogue and effects in the centre channel without any music bleed. They are a fan editors dream

well the top ones, they used the old matte painting with the old style building which also didn't match the buildings we saw in the previous shot. The bottom one, well they are the same buildings but sections flipped. This was because the light is coming from the right (although it is hard to tell in the 2004 shot because they completely blew out the high levels), when in the next shot the light is coming from the left. So the buildings were modified for continuity
