Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Another addition to ROTJ has been spotted. R2 now has more appendages when he gets shot:

Original

2011

They have also added really crap looking reflections to the 2 blue sections on his front. Also jets of smoke that really do look fake. R2 just looks CG now :( They have also changed his blue colouring in this sequence. Why do that when it's the original colour of R2.

But, as usual with all the SE additions, they completely forgot to add them next time we see R2.

The trolls over at blu-ray.com are now on a serious mission to get me banned. Some have informed the moderators that i ahve been offering 720 fan edit rips of the blu-rays over there and have been promoting my work also. None of these things i have done. Hell, i haven't even got a 720p version of my Revisited edits to offer anyone, so it shows they are just blowing smoke out of their asses. You can bet its the usual suspects there. I find it funny that, because i have mentioned the blu-ray rips and most people have only the 720p versions, that they thinks that this is what i have and thought it would be a good excuse to try and say that i am offering edits of the blu-ray rips., well sorry guys, my copies are 1080p and i certainly have no intention of doing any edits of the blu-rays apart from using parts as a base for my revisited edits.

Something else i noticed about the audio. The sound effects for part of the detention cell shoot out swapped channels in the 2004 versions. Now i decided to check the Blu-Ray audio and the same mistakes are there. Just check the section right after the Stormtroopers start knocking on the door when 3P0 is on the comlink right up until Leia blasts the hole in the wall. Now this was a mistake only found in the 2004 version and was correct in all the old mixes. You can hear it best if you can mute all channels apart from front left & right. even though the laser blasts are quite fast to keep a track of which direction they are, just keep an eye out for when Han shoots. You hear two clear blasts coming from the left channels when they should be coming out of the right. In this section all the effects are swapped. Now did they really start this mix again from scratch or did they just go and fix the rear channels and dialogue?

Adywan, can you let us know if the humdinger was fixed? That is after you've slept.

I'm looking forward to your appraisal of ROTJ. And it is very interesting you said the audio for ESB is the same as 2004. I'm wondering if Matt Wood is even in there.

But like you said there's a lot of bullshit coming from the PR department about this release. They changed two lightsaber shots and suddenly everyones declaring the lightsabers are fixed.

I haven't gone over the audio with a fine tooth comb, but from what i could hear it sounded about the same as 2004. There might have been one part when it sounded like different background sounds, but i would need to check with the 2004 5.1 first.  And yes, the humdinger is fixed as well as the blue glow around the death star explosion, but that looks almost black & white now. All the colour is gone from it.

Adywan, did you see if TESB still has garbage mattes?

you can still see the garbage mattes, especially during the asteroid chase.

Well just watched ESB. No changes that i could spot other than the Wampa arm. Same old crappy 2004 colouring with the blown out detail in the bright areas in Cloud city.  They haven't touched one lightsabre by the looks of things although i would have to run it side by side with the 2004 version to confirm it, but i'm 99% sure that this is the case. Same dull cores and pink lightsabres. The audio is the same as 2004. the lightsabre sound is still there as Luke exits the cave, yet the lightsabre is still activated.

So far it seems that there has been a lot of Bullshit coming from Lucasfilm about the work done on these blu-rays

I'm going to leave Jedi until later on. need some sleep now as it's 5:20am here now. This is the film i am most dreading watching after the few changes noted so far.

And they have added a bloody Dug into jabbas Palace walking down the steps. Definitely forcing the prequels down our throats

A Dug? As in fucking Sebulba?

And after what they did to poor Wicket, those rumors about Jabba being "digitally more expressive" or whatever shit it was could very well be true.

I haven't got ROTJ yet but someone posted a video of it over on facebook. I'm just about to start watching ESB now. Wish me luck......

If you don't hear from me in the next few days i've probably died from excessive projectile vomiting. lol

Yeah, you're probably right.  Sure, we here are laughing (and crying) at the changes, but I dare not visit TFN, BR.com or SW.com, because I imagine in more populous places like those, everyone is rebounding off the walls with glee over all the "improvements".  Next they'll be scoffing at us for not appreciating all the great work that went into these disks.  I really don't care to witness that, and am just grateful to be here and that this tiny den of sanity exists.

Actually, over at tfn , i've been surprised by just how many hate these changes, same over at BR.com. A lot are still in denial and think these rips are fake (i've even had emails and PMs with threats from people who are convinced they are fake and that i have something to do with it), and a lot are saying that the changes are the best thing since sliced bread, but there are many many people who are outraged at these changes, people that at one point were all for whatever GL does to the films "because they are his vision".

Oh  and has anyone noticed that a certain person seems to have disappeared off the face of the Earth. I would have thought that with all this talk of the leaked blu-rays and all the details coming out he would be shouting it from the top of the world in every place that even mentions Star Wars.  Very strange indeed.........

Just found one of the alterations done to Episode 4

I made the preview tiny just in case people don't want spoilers. Just click on the image to view

I like them! Pretty well executed :)

Trust me, they are not. they look horrendous in motion. it doesn't even look like they tracked the shots to match any frame movement. And bloody jabbas door pan looks horrendous:

http://youtu.be/0BoOsNnsfsk?hd=1

Onto the audio for ANH:

During the opening battle aboard the tantive IV the music is drowned out in favour of the sound effects. then are there are other places too when it's really hard to hear any of the music above the Effects at all. There are a few differences here and there, but i need to go over the audio side of things again. But they screwed up at the end. When they are preparing the Death Star's laser, You could always clearly hear the operators saying "stand by" twice. Well try to hear them saying anything in this mix. It's so far back in the mix they might as well have been whispering it. And they still haven't taken those damn X-wing sound effects from the Falcon vs TIE battle as they escape the death Star. This was an error created in 1997 and never sorted. Yeh, the dialogue is clearer and seems to mix together between alternate audio takes, unlike the 2004 mix and the surround swapping for the music seems to have been fixed in the rear channels also but sometimes the sound effects just seem to drown everything out. yes, the fanfare has returned during the death star dive, but i would say this mix is only a marginal improvement.

Oh , and only that 1 shot that features lightsabers has been altered throughout the whole movie. Obi-Wan still gets his purple lightsabre in some shots and the sabre still goes out and the sabre aboard the falcon alternates between green and blue. Instead of adding damn rocks in front of R2, maybe they should have spent the time to fix these issues?

Well i will have all 3 1080p rips in a few hours. I'm only going to be using these files for preview purposes and as i have already pre-ordered the complete saga set and paid for it in full, it's not as if i am downloading these to avoid buying the blu-rays.

About to start watching ANH fully. I will report back when each one has finished

Star Wars Episode 4: There's No Hope

;)

But seriously , how many years did they say they have been working on these films to get them right for the Blu-Ray? So far, from all the reports of the small amount of changes done to the OT and the fact that they have done nothing to the colour of these films, with the amount of people they have working on these then it would only be about a months work TOPS!

I guess the prequels are more important to him now and the OT can just rot. I still can't believe that there are those that are still claiming that these are how the films have always supposed to have looked. :(

Oh, and our worse fears seem to have been confirmed. Someone posted an audio clip from ANH with the new Obi-Wan howl. I'll be able to check to see if it's legit in an hour or so

My thoughts exactly. Actually, I'm fine with that change, but if they've wasted so much effort on that, why not fix the damn lightsabers? How is George fine with them looking like that?

you see, this is the thing. i really don't care any more what changes he makes to these films as long as, before making any more changes, they at least get the basis of the films correct first; the colours and other issues created by the shoddy 2004 versions. So what happened to this "3 stages of quality control" they have been harping on about in the interviews? But they have already started with the same old crap about the colours and blaming it on people monitors/ TVs not calibrated correctly.  If this is the case then how can the colours still looks screwed up on correctly calibrated monitors then? Or does Lucasfilm have magical monitors that makes a screwed up movie look perfect? Its not as if these guys haven't got reference prints etc to get the colours right at least.

Just posted this over at blu-ray.com to show that the sabers are still green in ANH.

And then this to show that the sabres were blue in the 1997 version

And they are still some that are saying that it was always green and that the 1997 shot isn't even blue. lol. And even tried to be a smart ass by saying it isn't green its more aqua.lol.  if you showed some of these idiots a black screen they would swear it is white just to argue against you.

Adywan, I've seen several versions of Jedi (Blu-ray/laserdisc) where you can see the actors eyes through the Ewok eye lenses and I think the Blu-rays are showing this in much greater detail than before. It'll be the same with Vader from the original Star Wars where there were several times you could see Prowse's face behind Vader's darkened red eye lenses in the Blockade Runner and the Darth Star War Room scenes.

No, they have definitely changed his eyes. You can see it so clearly in the sample clip. There isn't much more detail than what we already have in the HDTV rips so it would be impossible to suddenly see the actors eyes. But you will see what i mean in this shot. those aren't actors eyes behind any lenses: (click on image to view full size)

Skyjedi, i really wish i was joking. They haven't even fixed the white laser blast coming from the training droid aboard the falcon that only became an error thanks to the 2004 versions. i mean Lukes saber is still green, yet they can add eyes to an ewok. And by the looks of it all the lucasfilm talk about fixing all the sabre cores is bull also. Look at this screencap from the blu-ray rips; Luke sabre has a pink core.

So they fixed all the sabres then did they? So how come the Luke's bloody sabre aboard the falcon is still green?

http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/7051/vlcsnap2011083007h30m28.th.png

They have had 7 years to get this damn release right this time and it seems like they have done NOTHING to the colour timing at all. All we are going to get is the same crap as 2004 with a higher resolution and some changes.  So much for all those bloody reviews saying that the colours look great. Just shows that most of these reviewers know nothing about how crap the colouring was in 2004

Yeh, it was this thread:

It had nothing to do with me receiving donations at all. Anti-Splatter had a problem with me just because i questioned him when he deleted his posts. He doesn't like anyone questioning him because he thinks he is the god of all fan editors. He probably thinks he even invented the genre. You only have to look at that site to see how much people have to kiss his ass to have the "privilege" of not getting banned.  Dare to give a bad review of one of his edits and you're out of there. Most of the edits reviewed there are his.  Their membership isn't exactly growing at a decent rate now is it.
