Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

I just stuck in ESB and the first thing i noticed is some horrible motion smearing. This is really noticeable during the crawl where the crawl actually seems to drag the stars into streaks as it recedes . This was a problem with the 2004 transfer although hardly noticeable on the DVDs but it looks terrible in 1080p

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

I'm watching the special features on the Blu-ray discs and i have to say that, overall, they are pretty disappointing. Not the actual content, but the quality. The old "making of.." docs are terrible quality. They are plagued with horrendous mpeg1/2 compression and other digital artefacts and then the interlacing issues turn the picture into a line-fest when there is the slightest motion. It looks like watching an old VCD but with slightly sharper picture.

Deleted scenes:

The prequel deleted scenes, well i feel sorry for the prequel fans who wanted to see these, because they are a waste of time. The quality looks like they were ripped from youtube when it first started. There are a couple that the quality improves at times, but the majority look like crap. Instead of using the footage from the filming of these scenes they mostly use the low quality quick composite jobs done for tests to visualise the final scene before the effects are added. And with 2 of these films being shot using HD cameras you would expect some of the scenes to be in HD, but they are not. And why use anamatics, that contain NO live action footage, as deleted scenes? I really feel sorry for fans of the prequels here because they are getting truly screwed here. If they had put the original DVD deleted scenes on here at least that would have been some consolation, but alas they are not present. But one interesting thing that i spotted on the Utapau animatic sequence is General grievous. Now was it originally intended to be Darth Maul because you can clearly see that it is him behind the mask?

But now onto the original trilogy ones. Now these are indeed good. Even the worse quality ones are heads above the quality of the prequel ones. ANH ones are pretty bad quality for the most part, which is understandable due to the age of the movie. The best quality one of the Beru "blue milk" scene. this looks like it has had a high quality modern scan and it really sharp and in great condition.

ESB scenes are also mixed quality, but none as good as the beru scene. The capture of Lobot is pretty interesting and you can see exactly where it was supposed to have gone in the movie, just as get to the first landing platform door that is locked. Luke's training footage is a mixture of what would be the same shot, filmed multiple times and from different camera angles. The wampa footage really shows why the whole thing was dropped as that suit just didn't work. One section shows how the conversation between han and leia when he rushed out of the command centre would really have started, with the camera panning to focus on a small but of the wall crumbling to reveal the Wampas hand scratching at the ice while the original conversation continues in the background.

ROTJ has some good deleted scenes. The sandstorm is in pretty bad condition but the majority are pretty good quality with some excellent. The extra Jerjerrod scenes are pretty good. And seeing the whole deleted subplot of the Emperor ordering him to fire upon the planet if the shield generator is destroyed and Jerjerrod's turmoil because of the troops still on the planet, is a great moment, and would have worked great in the final version of the film. The lost pilots is great also. Although the first 2 women are in black and white only, the whole segment is unedited with them repeating the lines that are spoken to them off camera. there is also some funny moments with the lines spoken by the mon calamari pilot puppet. General Madine scenes are pretty good but all of his part here was replaced by Admiral Ackbar in the finished version. It's a shame they didn't add the other scenes especially his death scene. Then you have the rebels inside the falcon during the battle. Now there is no sound here but the quality is very good. Most of the first part is just generic shots of them running around the falcon but then you get to see a long sequence of two of them in the gun turrets. The bunker scenes start off showing the same action in one continuous sequence then, when it ends, it starts again from a different viewpoint, so fan editors are going to love to play around with this.

All in all the OT fans get the best treatment here.

I'm going through the other special features on discs 7 & 8 so i will go through those later.

If you are a fan of the OT and love deleted scenes and special features then this set is for you. If you are a prequel fan and love the same things well i would forget about the deleted scenes and stick to the rest of the extras, unless you are watching them on a 19 inch or less screen.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Just received details of the OT deleted scenes from my friend Steve, who managed to pick up a copy of the complete saga today.

O.T: Deleted Scenes:

Just had a look through them. They would need a major overhaul. All SD and variable in quality. Star Wars Deleted scenes are deteriorating and nothing exciting except (Vader Widens The Search) and Luke and Biggs: Extended. Quite a shame as there are more scenes that should have been included than what we'd seen on the Behind The Magic CD-ROM.

ESB are varied. (Luke's Recovery - B&W/On-Set Audio/SFX mixing for a rough cut). Luke and Leia: Medical Centre (On set audio). But both great scenes and a sense of physical and mental intensity between Luke and Leia. Fate of General Veers is a B&W scene with a few extra seconds from the finished shot and animatics after Hobbie collides with his walker. Hiding in the Asteroid is short and just repair shots and on-set Audio. Han and Leia: Extended Kiss is B&W and plays very closely to the finished scene. Except 3PO's interuption is more intrusive. The Dagobah training scenes aren't much. The Wampa scenes are the same. Although - the Holding cell shot is good (silent) and Vader walking upto the door after a Stormtrooper has been pulled in. Also examining the dead Wampa with R2 getting scared and reversing on 2 legs. Leia tends to Luke drags on, but names Boba Fett for the first time. Lobots shots are a mystery. More so a pre-cursor to aiding Lando's escape from Cloud City.

And as for Jedi - Jerjerrod's Conflict is the better treatment. I was very suprised! The scene of him talking down to Vader was great. And the shots of him speaking to the Emperor via internal comlink (Emperor's voice provided by Marquand).

The Lost Rebels (female A-Wing pilots are in B&W and obviously test shots). The Sullustan and Mon Calmari (Tim Rose) B-Wing pilot shots were really interesting. Lando's Falcon Assault Team is very strange. Silent footage. But the Gun station scenes really could be used. Tatooine shots (Lightsaber construction is great - and the only completed/scored scene on Disc 8) but everything else is nothing outstanding!

Overall, I like them. But they seem like untouched conversions. It could have been more.

I know that but according to Ady star wars is not a new mix, so based on that they lied. The only new thing is the horrible krayt dragon call redo, and the fixed audio in the trench run of the lso horns.

No, ANH is a new mix (even though some of the reversed channels problems remain), but the others sound pretty much the same as the DVDs. They mixed the DVDs as Dolby 5.1EX, which has a matrixed centre surround, so its possible that they used the same original mix files used for the EX versions

does anyone know the situation with the blu-ray sound channels? i believe clone wars blu-ray had an independent channel for speech and some SFX.

The dialogue and sound effects aren't independent of the blu-ray mixes. the music still bleeds into the centre channel. It would have been good if the new mixes had gone down the Clone wars route, but they haven't.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

you know, i didn't notice that change when i first watched the blu-ray rip. Watching it again and, on my god, does that looks terrible. the recolouring is amateurish at best. It's like they just masked out the whole left side of the screen and added a photo filter. What the hell were they thinking when doing this? They can't fix the lightsabres yet they can add crap like this?

The strange thing is, if you look at the GOUT, there is no change in sharpness/ focus. I know the source isn't great quality but you would be able to see if there were any focus issues. The images have been upscaled so you can see it easier

I was just watching ROTJ again and one thing i noticed is that a whole section of the movie looks almost out of focus. Anyone who has the blu-ray rips just check the part where the Tydirium is approaching Endor. It lasts until around the speeder bike chase. It's the same on the HDTV 2004 version too. It is such a huge drop in image clarity it looks almost DVD upscaled. Compare it to the rest of the movie and you will see what i mean.

EDIT you can check out just how different it is here:

Did they fix the changing windows in Cloud City? As much as I hate the new windows, it drove me nuts that they'd revert back in following shots, exemplifying the laziness of the SE. I'd been told awhile back that George and crew were aware of them, and would be doing something about it.

no, the same problems remain with all the 1997 SE additions.

I know they can't mention forum posters or anything like that, but adywan and people on MillenniumFalcon.com are the ones who really blew this thing open.

It had nothing to do with me really. A lot of the things had been posted before i had gotten my hands on a copy. It was the guys at MF.com that really blew this thing wide open, same as they did with the 2004 additions.

I'm not getting the comments, but I am getting something just as silly - every comment is getting flagged as spam. And when I unflag them, then I'm told each one has gotten too many negative votes, and there's nothing I can do about that.

Oh, and current tally is 15 up, 36 down.

People are silly.

WTF? What was so negative about my comment? There are surely some people whose mothers raised the afterbirth and threw away the child...

It's the same guys from over at Blu-Ray.com that have been doing it all over youtube. They started attacking all of my videos so i had to disable the ratings because it was getting stupid. These are adults that are acting like little kids.

There is different kind of information on changes depending which site/forum you go to. I am concentrating on the stuff that I couldn't detect in my 1080p versions.

www.starwars-union.de (german site) reports stuff like:

- Blue Filter on Hoth got reduced - FALSE

- Obi Wan Ghost on Hoth can be seen a lot clearer now - ONLY BECAUSE IT IS 1080P - NO CHANGE

- Lightsabers got fixed and are now shiny red and blue, with white cores - ONLY FOR SOME SHOTS - NONE IN ESB

- Leia Hologram is more blue - FALSE.

Here are the lightsabres in ESB. So they have supposed to have brightened the cores? A few shots in ROTJ and a couple in ANH , but they have left ESB untouched. (click images to view full size)

And i found another small change in ESB. They have added reflections to the window in Cloud City.

Wouldn't it have been better for them to have fixed all the problems caused by the 2004 master FIRST before spending time adding and altering stuff that people probably won't even notice?

Hell no, leave it up. I have no problem with the repost. I'm hoping to get some adywan-level hate in the comments. ;-)

Nope, so far you're just getting Adywan hate. lol. The usual small band of Blu-Ray.com knobs at it again. Pretty obvious its from there because the only times you see crap like that its the same type of comments and its always shortly after a video has been posted over there. And it's always the same "three eyes" mentioned in the comments too. F**king idiots. try to be anonymous yet they have posted the same crap over there, so it's obvious its them. You can bet 99% of the idiots that always post shit like this about me would shit themselves if they ever come face to face with me. It's so pathetic its laughable.

At the very least this is a mock-up of a possibility.

You see, that's the thing about these new additions. They look like mock-ups. They look like someone took a short while to do because they didn't need to be good. As if they were just an idea. They are not something you would expect from a company that are supposed to be one of the best special effects houses in the world.

I've got to say that the unfreezing effect looks fake as hell in pictures and even worse in motion in 1080p. It's like they gave a school child a new plugin for after effects and said, "here, play with this. See what you can do". I'm really glad i never deleted my HDTV versions of these films, like i nearly did.

R.e. Luke's "Father, please," that comes some moments before Darth's "Noo. Nooooo!" line. I haven't watched the rips, but based on previous versions of these movies it would not be necessary to remove Luke's line in order to add Vader's line. In other words, the order of lines/events in the original scene is:

"Father, please."

"Now, young Skywalker, you will die."

More force lightning.

Vader tosses Palps.

But, adywan and others have watched the rips, so if it's true then it makes no sense at all to me. Those two lines come at different moments.

no, it's his last plea "father" right before he pick up the emperor that is now almost gone because they have lowered the dialogue and drowned the remains of it underneath the first No.

Looks like i'm getting a ban or suspension. got to love a place that issues these types of things because someone said something to them without any proof. apparently the user iamsomental over there has reported me. I've asked to see this so called proof of me promotion and offering 720p versions of these movies. I can bet i won't get anything back from them because there is no proof because i have done nothing of what they are claiming i have done.

back on topic, the one thing that has pissed me off EVEN MORE about the addition of the NOOOOOOOO in ROTJ, is that they have almost removed Lukes line " Father... .." just so they can add this crap.
