is it just me or does something look not quite right with darths retracting saber.

everything else is spot on

Now there have been a couple of comments complaining that its retracting too slow. Now to get the retraction correct i used the scene where Vader and Luke are on Endor where vader inspects Lukes new saber. It takes 8 frames to retract from full blade to gone. The one in my video is also 8 frames. Now in the OT the blades take between 6 and 8 frames to retract (apart from ANH where they just disappear), but in the PT they only take between 4 and 6 frames. So there is no correct speed for them to retract. as long as it is between 4 and 8 frames then it will be screen correct

Random question, I know, but anyway...

Ady, will you be replacing Clive Revill's name with Ian McDiarmid's in the end credits?

The credits will be created from scratch so it will be Ian's name replacing Clive's.

I have posted on the you tube channel for revisited but thought I would post my idea here to also see what others think of seeing vaders shuttle approach towards the end of the Hoth Battle.with reference to Vader getting to Hoth to Enter the Base he Obviously arrives via Lamda Shuttle probably with Tie Escorts. A Vader shuttle reveal might work in the scene immediatley after the AT-AT destroyed by luke falls over...  there is a shot of an AT-AT shooting at troops fleeing [5.01 REF VID]. Perhaps to  see the Shuttle with tie escorst in the  far distance in this shot and they could be travelling from the  right to the left and down in formation and then turning towards still in the distance with escort ties departing up this should be only very subtle though. The final shot of the shuttle only should be after the line "distance to power generators" it then cuts to the scene of the AT-AT shooting the snow speeder... [5.11 REF VID] Basically the shuttle should pass behind the AT-AT but fairly medium distance and carry on off screen to the left and this would make it look as if the snow speeder was attempting to pursue the shuttle only to be shot down by the AT-AT as it turns to chase. I think this would up the ante because the general has it in mind that he has already told vader to make his approach and the shield would be down in momments.

We will then have the new footage of the destroyed power generator model which presumably will cut to han and leia falling over after the explosion then running through the tunnel past c3po.

[5.55 REF VID] Immediatley after this, take the added docking bay executor scene from the ESB SE 2004 For Vader returning to the Executor from Bespin (which is being omitted I hope) and composite as foreground element only the Shuttle when Landed shot of vader walking off the shuttle. The background matte could be of the smoldering shield generator model Adywan has meticulously put together or destroyed for that matter ; with perhaps some snow troopers and a cut and paste AT-ST from ROTJ to come into frame as the camera pans and Vader walks down the ramp onto Hoth the best AT-ST could be the one that Han radio's in from to finally get into the ROTJ shield generator for the death star on Endor. I say put an AT-ST in the background only because we saw it marching ahead earlier when luke hits the ground  The AT-ST Should shoot after it's head turns to either blow open a hole or door if that footage could be used.  Finally Resume the footage of the rebel base invasion with Vader and the snow troopers coming in after the explosion. The Docking bay footage should probably flip so it looks like new footage but the feet of the AT-ST are not visible so some rocks or somthing might be needed to hide that in the composite....or whatever would work best. I feel these additions if they would work would truly bring Vader into the Battle on Hoth because for me it's a big gripe and I have thought long and hard about a way of possibly Bringing Vader Down to Hoth instead of just appearing out of nowhere. Sorry but do not have the skill to do this video compositing  but if anyone wants to give this idea a try then great! Or thinks they have a better way to do it?

Even if there is another way to bring Vader down without adding too much it would be good to see.

I hope Vaders shuttle leaving Bespin flying towards the executor stays in this edit of ESB because of Continuity also.

I cannot wait to see the final version of the hoth battle even if none of this stuff happens to be in the final edit. Just hoping it will be equivalent to what Adywan did with battle of Yavin

Welcome Ronster. While that is an interesting idea it's something that doesn't need to happen on screen. We don't need any visual indication of how vader landed on hoth. Everything we needed to know was explained by veers when he says to Vaders hologram," the shield will be down in moments. You may start your landing", so we know he will be on his way at this point in the battle. A problem with the prequels, and many films today for that matter, is that they feel the need to talk down to the audience and explain everything in detail, whether it be in the script or visually. And this was a huge problem when it came to the special editions with the added shots of vaders shuttle leaving bespin and docking with the Executor. Not only did it completely break the whole flow of the original scene, we just really didn't need to be shown exactly how he got there especially when he originally said "bring my shuttle". So i won't be adding any form of Imperial landing craft into any of the Hoth scenes.

Watching the OT on Spike right now, something I always noticed but don't remember seeing come up in the thread (although with almost 1000 pages, it's hard to go back and check for it)...

When Vader chokes Needa then turns to Piett for an update, at the end of the scene when Piett says "Alert all commands - deploy the fleet", for some reason the sound mix on that line sounds like Ben Burtt left the "comm link filter" on - it doesn't sound like Piett is there saying it but saying it over a comm channel.

Having listened to that scene again i can't see any problem with the audio apart from its slightly echoing on set audio.

aalenfae said:

I think if anything about that scene needs to be corrected/updated/fixed, it would just be the matte paintings of the chasm. They always looked a little too... papery.

On the same subject as changes, I made up a little video of suggestions for Adywan the other month, if anybody cares to take a look:

http://vimeo.com/32681597

Again, some interesting ideas. I have already added a slight motion blur to the AT-AT's and have added the guns recoiling when they fire. But the one gun that isn't firing i haven't added anything to that because there is someone working on it so its probably supposed to be out of action until later on in the battle. Having vader in shot as the falcon exist the hangar wouldn't work because the falcon is flying pretty close to the ground and would have flattened vader but also he would have had to shot across the hangar at impossible speed to have moved from just entering in one shot to being on the other side in the next. Having the AT-ATs in the shot as Luke turns around would work also as that is actually a mountain range and the battlefield was a flat glacier.

I must say I prefer Vaders helmet moving than the weird effect of the head of Darth Vader now... It looks like a cardboard head, like that scene of Bruce Lee

I'm sorry, but you can't say it looks anything like that.

I'm not 100% happy with vader helmet but there isn't much i can do but i still prefer it over the wobbly helmet any day. I may go back and try to tweak it since this was one of the first scene i did and i know a few more techniques that could be applied since then. Now i need to go back and read through a lot of pages to try and catch up.

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

Here is this years Revisited clip for Christmas. This scene is mostly complete apart from the overhead gantry matte shots( just after Luke gets his hand cut off), where i will be replacing the background matte and one close-up shot of Vader. This scene uses the Blu-rays as a source.

Now, because facebook have now decided to start blocking and deleting videos and i received warnings of a ban for uploading this clip and another last night, you will now have to download the video to view on your PC or TV. Same thing is happening with Youtube so this is the only option (Vimeo give me a lot of problems uploading). The video is approx 150mb and is a 1080p mkv file.

Just to let people know that there will be no more videos posted to either youtube or facebook, so the only way you are going to get to see any new videos is through direct download (but not through rapidhsare). I attempted to post a new video to both facebook and youtube and both have been immediately taken down due to a copyright claim. I had even put a link to a direct download from rapidhsare and it looks like one of the sites automatically contacted rapidhsare, removed the link and rapidshare deleted my upload. Looks like facebook is now using the same software as youtube. On both facebook and youtube the video was set to private and was for the 2nd and 3rd units only which would have been followed by the christmas clip for everyone else, but i'm afraid this isn't going to happen. Well not yet anyway.

I read this on Facebook (and the ANHR thread), but I still have no idea what you're talking about. Perhaps a link to the YouTube video would help?

About 26 mins into the movie (just after we see AT-AT's through the binoculars, and just before a chunk of snow/ice falls on R2), while Trey says "Echo Station 3T8", his lips ain't looking right.

Right at the beginning of this clip.

yeh, he is saying a different line. the first word begins with an "F". I've done some mouth manipulation so it looks closer to what he is saying. It's not perfect, but looks much better than the original.

ANH:R - Stronger Vader edit: *** Released ***

Hi,

First of all, great idea, IMHO a strong Vader is a great improvement to ANH. :)

I liked your videos, and I would like to make a suggestion, that (again IMHO) would make the choke scene perfect. Vader shouldn't release him in silence, it should say something like "Consider this a warning" or something like that. Of course, you will need to find the words in the movies and mount the phrase, but I believe that wouldn't be a problem. If you can't find it, you could try using that reading of the bible made by James Earl Jones. Luckily Vader has no mouth so he can say wherever you want. :)

Keep up the good work.

why not just move the line "i find you lack of faith disturbing" so he finishes this line right at the moment he releases him?

Star Wars Blu Ray Impressions
Time

I just posted a comparison in my ESB:R thread of a shot of the Hoth battle between the blu-ray and a 35mm cell scan from the original theatrical version.

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/93945

The blu-ray is just one smudged mess. Anyone that thinks the blu-rays are top quality and that a scan from the theatrical version could never look as good really need to think again.

I've had a lot of questions about why i felt the need to film new shots of the Hoth troopers fleeing the At-At's for the end of the Hoth battle, especially when the blu-ray is now out. Well i think this comparison explains everything:

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/93945

The original shot is taken from a scanned cell of the original theatrical 35mm. What the hell have they done to the picture for the blu-ray? Its like one big smudged mess. There was no way i could use this shot.

I think some sound effect could be used to make it clear that Luke was sucked into the vent.

I'll have to check, but... Isn't there already a 'sucking' sound when Luke gets sucked in?

yes, there is already a sound effect when he gets sucked in. I've always thought it was pretty obvious that he gets sucked into the vent. It's something i've never had a problem with and, until now, i'd never heard of anyone that thought any different. I don't have a problem with the way this scene is so i will be keeping it the way it is. Well apart from flipping Luke as he is falling in the first 2 shots  because you can clearly see that Luke has been reversed due to the fact that suddenly its his left hand that is severed.

Need Help burning AVCHD or M2TS
Time

You should have other folders with the BDMV folder because they are part of the AVCHD structure. Certain players require these folders to be intact in order to play the disc when burned. The only thing you can do is burn the BDMV folder as i instructed earlier and hope that your Blu-ray player will accept it.  You can't burn this to a single layer DVD so you will need to burn it to a DL DVD+R.

The only other thing you could possibly try if your player won't play it after burned is to load the M2TS file into TSMUXER and build a new AVCHD structure

I am now working on the Obi-Wan vs. Anakin duel.

Does anybody know where to get (relatively) cheap, but accurate Obi-Wan and Anakin costumes? I'd really rather not pay tons of money, and the current footage won't cut it for an epic duel.

On a similar note, I need affordable Clone Trooper costumes, and most importantly a Commander Cody.

I don't know about getting clone trooper costumes but this ebay site has some really good costumes that are pretty cheap.

True. While Matt Wood says his voice is in all 6 movies, no one has found him in any of them so far, as far as I know.

I thought I read somewhere that Matt Wood and another person helped voice Obi-Wan's new scream in ANH.  Anyone else remember this?

People may not want to hear it, but I believe the "other person" is Ben Burtt.

No, according to the "sounds of Star Wars" book, where the new howl was first heard it was Matt Wood and Dave Acord. Here's what it says;

An interim crow sound was first tried before Burtt arrived and recorded Wood and Acord in the parking lot behind the Tech Building. "He sourced it from Dave and me yelling," Wood says, " We screamed and screamed. I was trying to model mine off this terrible cheesy element that i love from a Disneyland ride, The Haunted Mansion: ah, ah, ahooooaah!"

So he knew that it was a "terrible cheesy" sound and he still thought it was a good idea for the howl. Enough said.

Progress report:

The shield generator parts are now all finished and ready to cast. Work has started on the Dagobah miniature set and while this is in progress i will be working on the snowspeeder model (a modified version of the kit i purchased off ebay cheap) replace a few background shots and also the full scale Han Solo in carbonite front section that will have the correct shirt and also the Asteroid canyon.
