(Spoilers)How could The Force Awakens have been more original?
Time

An argument can be made that it was not derivative enough, but here goes…
Interpreting “originality” broadly, no PC for the sake of PC. We are already getting “Black: check. Hispanic: check.” everywhere and with everything.
I thought Ridley, Boyega, and Isaacs did a fantastic job, Ford couldn’t have carried the production to 2 billion by himself, but this series is supposed to be essentially a '30s-'40s adventure serial. Also, it was white male characters and white male fans that carried the franchise to greatness. The Black Panther movie is in production. Imagine how distracting it would be if they decided the lead was black for too darned long and there needs to be a white lead to demonstrate inclusion. I can’t wrap my head around a black guy as 007 for the same reason. To top it off, there’s just no way to divorce this kind of thing from the element of “Yyyyyeeeeeaaaaaahhhhh!!! Now we’re really sticking it to whitey!!!” Unpleasantly distracting. They’re lucky they had a lot of watercooler buzz.
On the business side, I don’t believe for a second that sales would have suffered if Finn and Po were fair blue-eyed white guys, all else being equal. Without the distraction, if anything, they would have blown past Titanic to threaten Avatar. Titanic and Avatar had white male leads, Jurrassic World had whites as the three principle males, and Avengers had all but one male as white (though an Italian American for Bruce Banner instead of Hulk was a slight switcheroo.)
I’m tired of the nasty, and even downright hateful attitudes that inevitably get attached to these PC efforts, and I feel the greatest problem with the PT was the refusal to be consistent with the OT in every way possible.
I still hope that the screenwriters will find a way to satisfy most everyone with this, but I’m still looking for that shamelessly '30s-'40s serial SW movie.
Edit: Where the hhheeeeeeelllllll are my indents?!?!? I need indents!

I'm saying that principal characters in an upgraded Golden Age adventure serial should be white, Black Panther should be black. An actor's ethnicity ALWAYS influences the overall character of the production. It's the most obvious aspect in the visual medium.
I've always admired GL's subtle but powerful inclusion of other races in his Flash Gordon series. 3PO and R2 as loyal companions facing discrimination in cantinas and treatment as third-class, Chewie as fierce and constant co-pilot, Yoda as wise oriental....
In fact, I did think that ESB Lando was pushing up to the limits, but adventure heroes have always sailed off to exotic "lands" and encountered tribal chiefs and bosses. It was ROTJ Lando that went over the top as an allied general in what was, in part, a WWII propaganda feature. He could have served as a Tuskeegee squadron commander. Ackbar was better as an allied naval commander.

So am i seeing from your posts is that you believe its ok to have aliens portraying other ethnicities as long as there are no blacks included? And that any lead actor have to be white? And how the hell does someones race influence the character of someone in a bloody space fantasy? Both Finn and Poe were written without the character being of a “certain colour”. The fact that John Boyega ended up in the role was because JJ loved his performance in Attack the Block and NOT because he was black.

The racism in your posts is quite clear. Welcome to the real world where there are other colours apart from white. You must really love the prequels with its racist portrayals of characters.

I love that the fact that Star Wars having a black lead actor brings out all the blatant racists. It makes it easier to uncover the type of people you don’t want any form of associations with. Is this really the type of person we want associated with these boards?

i’m curious ady what you thought of the force awakens? i hated it.and episode 4 is my favorite movie of all time.i disagree with others though,i don’t believe the force awakens was trying to copy episode 4.the problems i had with it were the guy giving the speech in a german accent and trying to sound like hitler and the stormtroopers doing the nazi salute.and the trench run had no drama whatsoever.and it was so easy to destroy it too didnt need more than 1 shot.also a stormtrooper carrying a staff that can deflect lightsabers when no jedi have been around for many decades.and rey being able to take down kylo when he was trained by luke.if luke is planning on training her in the next movie i dont see the point since she can already defeat kylo.

Well talk of TFA doesn’t really belong in here as there are many threads that cover that film. But i will say that i loved it. So i will reply to this comment…

As a Brit i can say that the speech was NOT delivered in a German accent. That was definitely a British accent he was doing. There have always been parallels between the Empire and the Nazis since day one, so i see no problem with any of that. And it wasn’t exactly a Nazi salute either. The trench run was a fleeting moment in the action sequence. The whole Starkiller attack was the sub plot. It wasn’t meant to be tense or dramatic as the main plot was what was supposed to have the drama: Kylo vs Rey/ Finn. And it took a lot more than just one shot to destroy it.

And why wouldn’t a Stormtrooper have a weapon that can deflect a lightsaber? Luke had been training a whole new generation of Jedi and the First Order knew this, so why wouldn’t they have something that can level the playing field ( we did see such a tool in the prequels) .

When people moan about how Rey was able to take down Kylo, then i wonder if they properly watched the film. There are clues throughout and it’s all there on screen. For one , Kylo had just killed his own Father. You can see his focus wasn’t there after he did that. Then Chewie shot him with his crossbow. The same weapon that was able to blast stormtroopers and flip them through the air. He took a direct hit. Then, when he confronts them, you see how wounded he is. Against Finn, he is toying with him. But as soon as Finn manages to get a strike to injure Kylo, he quickly dispenses with Finn. Then we have Rey. Kylo has been ordered by Snoke to bring her to him. So he is hardly going to try to kill her. She isn’t exactly doing very well at first either. He pretty much has the upper hand. He has her at the edge of the newly formed cliff and then he mentions about the force. And this is when she becomes powerful against him. But wait, look back in the film and remember the speech that Maz gave her. She told her " close your eyes. Feel it. The light. It’s always been there. It will guide you". And guess what? She remembers this. closes her eyes and lets the force in to guide her. Then she is powerful enough to defeat Kylo. Even though he had had training, he was pretty injured. We also know nothing of Reys origins yet.

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

Things are progressing really well. All the Han in Carbonite shots are completed, along with the new end credits and the English subtitles. Work continues on the hangar miniatures and the Wampa and then that’s ESB:R completed. I will release the mkv 720p version first. The DVD & Blu-Ray will come sometime later as there is more to create for those so, if i was to wait until those are created, it would be a much longer wait, and you have all waited long enough already. Plus i really need to move onto ROTJ.

Shooting is scheduled to take place in September, and that’s a date that can’t really be changed due to a few things happening, which i will explain at a later date. This will be for the Rebel pilots ( B-Wings first). Now i will need at least 2 months prior to this to create the costumes and cockpit set(s), so ESB will have to be completed by July at the latest. At this point i will need to begin a donation drive for ROT:R as finishing off ESB has completely wiped me out financially (and also slowing things up a little)

Now, i plan on adding foreign language subtitles to ESB, but i really need help with these. I hopefully have Spanish and Portuguese taken care of, but other languages are impossible without some help. Is there anyone here or that knows of anyone that would be able to help with the other foreign language subtitles?

The Force Awakens : Fan Edit Ideas

Originally, Poe Dameron was supposed to die in the crash on the desert planet. The screenwriters revised the script at the last minute so that Poe Dameron mysteriously survives and is reintroduced late in the film it is very jarring. Also, restore all the deleted scenes that explain the confusing political situation.

The revision was pretty early on in the script writing process. There were scenes filmed of Poe waking up after the crash and then his eventual escape from Jakku

What didn't you like about TFA? <em>SPOILERS</em>

John Doom said:

By consistent with SW you mean him being a cold-blooded cowboy, and consistent with ROTJ being playful? If so, I say he’s clearly not cold-blooded in TFA

You mean apart from the fact he punched one of the pirates and then threw him directly into the path of one of the Rathtars? I’d say that was a pretty cold blooded killer move to do

Just out of curiosity (I would never buy this in a million years…), is there going to be a 3D BD release? If this movie doesn’t get one, I can’t imagine what would anymore. It’s really amazing what a dud the 3D-push was.

Haven’t heard anything at all about one. I know exactly one person with a 3D TV, so it’s not surprising.

The 3D version is out later this year according to the official star wars announcement.

I know loads of people with a 3DTV over here in the UK. In fact what’s stopping a lot of people i know from getting a 4K Tv is that the cheaper ones don’t have 3D capabilities.

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **
Time

Sucks to be a UK fan right now. Official release dates have been announced.

For the US market:- Digital version on April 1st with Blu-Ray on April 5th
For the UK market:- Digital version on April 11th with Blu-Ray on April 18th

Why a two week wait? Not happy right now.

And for the editors hoping to use the Deleted Scenes in their fan edits, if they are presenting these scenes on the disk the way they show it in their commercial, then you’re sh*t out of luck.

And NO Harrison Ford. I don’t know why people still thought he was coming back just because Kennedy said that all the cast would be back when TFA came out. Of course she wasn’t going to say “they’re all coming back except for Harrison”. That would have given the game away about his death.

Issue with downloading the Harmy return of the jedi v1.0 (M2TS not AVHD)

Bubba200 said:

i just tried that… i did it twice with the work print and the vol 1 and i tryed selecting blue ray and avhd but they both came out as a M2TS file…

well it will be an M2TS file, but it is contained within a set of folders ( BDMV, Certificate etc) that is the structure of the blu-ray/ AVCHD. You have to burn all those folders to the blu-ray.

When did you sense a disturbance in the Force?

The thing everyone has to remember is that Lucas was creating a kids movie.

If this is the case, then why would George have been panicking that he made a kids movie just before the release of Star Wars? If that was his goal all along then he wouldn’t have been worried. First i remember George calling Star Wars a kids movie was after the prequels were slammed by fans.

I was referring to the poor CGI work done on them, not the characters themselves. Though, I didn’t like their characters very much anyway.

Strange thing is, Snoke looked pretty good for the most part when i saw it in 2D. The 3D really didn’t help him. The close up shots looked the best. Others have been pixel f**ked too much with atmospherics and such. I thought Maz looked amazing though. The movement and especially the clothing rendering was perfect. Even better in 2D.

They did try to do Maz as a practical effect, but it wasn’t possible.

All those AOTC shots with animals look good, and better than the JP t-rex considering that CG usually looks a lot worse in bright light. The t-rex’s head looks great, but where the light is shining on the top of his leg it doesn’t look too good.

please stop playing video games right now and go out and experience the world. You are spending so much time playing them that you are forgetting what real objects look like. Well thats the only reason i can think of that would make you think those AOTC animals look good.
