Kurgan i think it is you that is misunderstanding what has been said. There is no possible way that these scenes taken from the BTM disc could ever be used in an edit like mine that uses DVD or HD resolution video. Upscaling to DVD format will not give you any more detail than the original source that could ever be acceptable to use. Even if miracles could be performed and you could get the detail in the deleted scenes to the level of the 2004 DVDs then the framerate issue would still kill any chance of using these. I have read that thread and seen the amazing work MoveAlong did for the DVD & boba feta has done on the restoration but if you asked any one of them then they would agree with what i have said. Also the story changed in its final edit to how it was originally filmed so the scenes just don't fit in without some extensive editing as i explained in my last reply to you which you just seemed to have dismissed.

well actually i have had a copy of this disc since MoveAlong released it so i have not just dismissed it out of hand as you say. And i have just read your post in MoveAlong's thread and it seems that you haven't got the disc yourself because you're asking for seeders so my advice to you would be to first watch the disc yourself, then compare it to the 2004 DVDs so you will see what i have tried twice now to explain to you before rudely telling me what to do like that when i have actually watched the disc & do know what i am talking about.

The thing with any of the deleted scenes as they exist at the moment is that there is no possible way they could be inserted into any edit using the 2004 DVD or HDTV as a source is that they would stick out like a sore thumb. don't forget these are from a very low resolution source, using either 12 or 15 frames per sec (can't remember which) which results in a non smooth playback. No matter how much restoration you do on these scenes they could never be put back into the film. Now if the rumours of the Christmas box set are true then hopefully these scenes will be available in true DVD resolution and quality and could be reinserted back into the film but that will never happen with this edit. Adding these scenes back in would slow the pacing of the beginning of the film down . I'm sure i read somewhere that the original cut was more about Luke where as the cut as we all know it is more of the droids story. So to add these scenes back in would require the film to be heavily edited to flow naturally (which may require new scenes). Who knows, if the deleted scenes to emerge then i may want to tackle an edit like this, which would be fun, but for now there will be no deleted scenes added.

Now on to the edit. I'm having hell with adobe after effects at the moment. The damn thing keeps freezing then crashing when doing any FX work. I can work on it for ages then all of a sudden it will just freeze and dies. luckily i have auto save on but even then i still lose a lot of what i have done. one shot that is only 1 1/2 seconds long has taken me 3 days to get to 80% complete. At this rate the death star battle will take me years to complete. i think I'm going to do a complete reinstall and see if this cures the problems but this will have to wait until i complete this shot just in case anything changes once i've done this. i'd hate to have to start from scratch for this shot.

i've now reached the goal. Transfered the funds and just waiting for them to clear. i can't thank everyone that donated enough.I won't have to worry about running out of space and compromising on any shots now. I'm just finishing a few new shots for the Death star battle then i'm going to spend a few days concentrating on the trailer before getting stuck back into things after a few days rest break.

Many thanks.

The Mono Mix Restoration Project (Released)
Time
To Belbucus, and everyone else involved in this project, i would like to say a big thank you for all the work you have put in to create this amazing piece of work. Although when i first saw Star Wars in '77 in was with the Dolby 6 track mix, this is the mix that i most fondly remember and preferred. This brings back memories of Christmas in the '80's, sitting down waiting for Star Wars to come on ITV. Beru's voice always stood out for me and once i heard the mono mix i just hated the other dubbed versions of beru. I would like to ask your permission to use some dialogue from your mono mix for my edit (credit will be given to you of course). Finally having a good quality mono mix for Beru's lines is a godsend to me and couldn't have come at a better time.

OK, just a quick update with a bit of good news. I've worked my ass off this week and got hell of a lot done. the good news is that i now only have just under 15 minutes of footage left to finish (apart from the credits) and then its on to the audio. That should work out to hitting the November deadline if no problems arise. I still definitely need this last hard drive though. I'm still £40 short. The FX work for the Death Star battle is eating up the hard drive space. One shot had almost 70 layers which resulted in a huge file. But it looks great. Just think Jedi battle and that'll give you some idea. With all this rolling along there could well be a brand new trailer coming out real soon

Open the rars that contain the par files with winrar. When you go to extract the files make sure you have the "keep broken files"tab ticked. It will extract most of the par files. Put the par files in the same folder as you have the 001 etc files for the mainmovie. open one of the pars with quickpar. this should now scan all the files and then the repair button should change to a rejoin one.

The Celebration Europe Feedback Thread
Time
Well i'm actually glad i couldn't afford to go to CE now after reading this.

I have to agree with Anthony Daniels having an inflated ego. He was at Memorabilia in Birmingham a few years ago . I was taking some pics of everyone there when all of a sudden i had some security guy for AD come over and threaten to take my camera off me because AD does not allow photos of him to be taken unless you are paying for an autograph. I told him i didn't even want a photo of him and continued to attempt to take photos of the others, plus ones of my daughter and then the guy tried to grab my camera. Big mistake. I don't care how bloody big he was he had no right to do that. My daughter went and got NEC security and they came over and sorted things out. I decided to go over and complain to one of AD's assistants that was near him and she just told me that it was his policy. Not even an appology. He was standing right next to her when i was complaining , he looked over but just ignored what was going on. This also happened to a young girl too who tried to take a photo of her brother as he stood in line for an autograph and probably more too. Big deal, he was in Star Wars. So were Dave Prowse Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker & Jeremy bullock & others that have also been at Memorabilia but they had no ego and were only to happy to chat and know how to treat fans. I already have AD's autograph from years ago, pre inflated ego, but if i had't then i wouldn't even have added him to my collection after that.

This was attempted but it is way to hard to track it precisely enough to be an acceptable fix. it may look like a simple fix compared to what i have achieved so far but believe me this is hell of a lot harder.

Well i've just finished all 132 shots of R2 and his dome light now matches the rest of the saga more closely. Took me a lot less than i thought it would, but a few sleepless nights. Just started tweaking the console displays when they break into the control room on the Death Star. Just small tweaking here though. Too difficult to completely replace the displays but i'm tweaking the colour on them a bit so they are no longer black & white. Then the next thing is to add the cantina band and then a new dogfight sequence for the Final Battle.

Although the tech schematic which I suppose is as about canon as it gets? says it's on the right side:

I only need the band from the holiday special anyway & not the surroundings.. The place they put the band in the schematics is probably the best place they could have said the band was because they could explain away why you can't see them, but i still think they need to be added in the shot where you should see them

Thanks for the link ron2112, much appreciated.

Well i'll give you a quick update on how things are going.

95% of the lost shots are now finished. Most of the problem shots have been sorted and things are almost back on track. So i'm back onto the FX work now and hopefully soon i'll have the last drive which will give me the flexibility in need to finish the edit a lot sooner.

There was something that i was hoping to fix in ANH that has bothered me for a while but after many attempts i just couldn't get it to look right. I'm talking about R2's dome lights. In ANH they are totally different than in the rest of the saga. In ANH the front mostly stays red or half red, half blue, but in the other movies it flashes from red to light blue. Also the rear one changes from yellow to green but again not in ANH. Well i've finally been able to come up with a way to fix this so it looks natural and not painted on. Problem is that there is approximately 130+ shots of R2 that need fixing, including shots that his lights have no colour. So its going to be a lot of sleepless nights to finish his lights without pushing the release date even further back but after seeing the first finished shots its going to be worth it.

And now onto another fix that i need a bit of help with....

In the cantina we see a wide shot of the inside of the cantina but there is something missing from the shot... the band. Where the hell are they? I want to add the band in the background but all shots in ANh are closeup shots. If i remember correctly the Holiday Special has a sequence featuring the cantina band & Bea Arthur. I did have a copy of this but i just can't find it anywhere and it was the version that has the highest quality transfer too. Can anyone who has this please post the complete cantina sequence in its original mpeg2 format please or point me in the right direction where i can obtain a copy as fast as possible. I'm pretty sure it was called the KCCI version and is hell of a lot better quality to work with than all the other versions. Any help would be greatly appreciated for this.

Some more fixes i have finished:

1..The wobbly holo chess table as luke gets up to head for the gunport is now a solid fixed table.
2..Just as the stormtroopers spot Leia aboard the falcon you can see what appears to be a foot or leg appear in the bottom left hand side of the shot. I've removed this.
3.. Just prior to Ben's death when R2 & 3PO head for the falcon there is a support bar in one shot that appears on R2 to stabilize his legs. I've removed the bar.
4.. When 3PO is talking to Luke as they are under fire in the detention cell corridor, in the background there are only 3 guns, but when we next see the control room as the stormtroopers burst in there are 4. There are now 4 in Both shots (even though there should really only be 3 because they take one as they head for the detention block but it was easier to add one than take one away)
5.. (may have mentioned this one already but i haven't got the time to check all the pages to see if i have) There are 2 shots of officers being shot that were censored for the SE releases. These have been added back in. I had to use the GOUt for this but only for the few trimmed frames of the officers. backgrounds and have been matted in from the 2004 DVDs so its almost impossible to see where the GOUT frames & 2004 frames merge and it looks like it was taken from the DVDs instead of the GOUT so no bad quality GOUT footage jumping out at you. lol
6.. Fixed the shots in Vader's TIE cockpit where you can see Dave Prowse's face behind the mask
7.. Fixed the shots where, inside Vader's cockpit, you see a window behind Vader where there shouldn't be. I've blocked out the window.
8.. In the sequence in the Death Star battle when the TIE's first attack, the rebel that gets blown away first has his helmet change from dark red to a flame red between the 2 shots. Fixed this so in both shots he now has a dark red helmet.

there is a few more but i can't think of them at the moment.

Liz couldn’t cope with the guilt and confessed to having an affair with Derek.

Meanwhile, Sally celebrated her 40th birthday…in the Rovers. Kevin gave a speech and a sung song as the dogs whined in the surrounding area.

And finally, Molly ‘borrowed’ Vera’s address book to let all the Duckworths’ family know they need full-time care.

My one sanctuary place is here where i can avoid the soaps when the wife sits in front of the box and watches them and now Coronation Street has invaded the boards...

in the immortal words of Vader..... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

But seriously though, any update on the monomix? I lost the original monomix when my hard drive died so i'm really eager to get my hands on this one.

Wow those stars are bright bright bright!
This is one of the few shots i haven't had to brighten the stars. The starfield is the original footage from the 2004 DVDs. This is one reason i had to brighten up the stars in other shots. Sometimes they are bright & clear and others they are almost none existent So i used the brightest from original footage and upped the brightness of other shots to match so they are now consistent.
Are the ships CG or cloned elements from the original? The formation looks great.

No Cg, just cloned elements from the original
Ady, did you get my IM about the donations thing?

It might help if you tell us what you need to help you along... if it's hard drive space you are after, some people out there may not have cash but might have spare drives they can send.

I think I have a 60 and a 120 gig sitting around doing nothing.

No, I didn't get your IM Mojo_LA. A good idea about spare drives but i really need 500Gb internal because i have almost run out of space for drives in my machine. I have had very bad experiences with eternal drives so i'm now only sticking to internal. I'm actually quite close to the donation goal now. I popped out and got a new drive for backup and that is now totally full and another drive replaced the 400gb one that died. Problem is that after transferring all the stuff to the new internal i have only 100gb left so i definately need the 3rd drive to finish this edit. Being on sickness benefit is a pain in the ass. I just don't have any spare cash for the drive so i'm really grateful for all the donations that have so far come in. Thanks all.

I'm still not back to where i was yet. There are a couple of shots that i just can't get the colours to match the surviving footage so i'm going to leave those for now and go back to them at a later stage. I'm restarting the FX work instead now. Here's a quick screen grab of the latest finished shot which is the approach of the TIE's in the Death Star battle. The original 6 TIE's always seemed a bit pathetic so i've added more TIE's to this shot which sets up for the larger battle sequences to come.

I think most of the clips have now expired and it wouldn't be worth reposting them as most have gone through various incarnations since first posting so will be different from the final edit. one link that is still active (at least for the moment) is the slpit screen comparison

Donations are still open. You can donate through paypal. The address to donate to is : adywan(at)hotmail.co.uk (substituting the (at) for @ of coarse).

Here's some screen caps which help show the lighter skin tones now without bleaching out the main colours that don't need desaturating

Need help with VOB issue
Time
The easiest way would be to load up the M2v file in VirtualdubMod and export it as an avi using the Lagaryth lossless codec. I've had a few problems with the huffyuv codec when using Vegas but Lagaryth works like a charm.

Also what format is original DVD? Is it Pal or NTSC? If it's Pal then just use VirtualdubMod but if it's NTSC then its best to use DVD2AVI and set the 2Field operation" in the Video menu to "forced film" to remove the 2:3 pulldown. This will give you a 23.976fps avi file. If your output video file has stuttery movement then the NTSC may probably have been encoded at 29fps without using the pulldown method. If this is the case just set it to "none". Also don't forget to change the "clip & resize settings" to > Filter type = precise bicubic, Video aspect = free & move the resize slider all the way up if using an anamorphic source.
