The shot in the clip are new Y-wings taken from an ILM model shot. The original ones were so flat and grey they looked like cardboard cut-outs. this shot is so short it wouldn't be worth all the work to create CG ships. i think the new shots works well anyway and doesn't look like cutouts.

My bad on this one. i rendered 2 different shots for this shot. 1 to use for this shot and a different camera movement shot for when Luke enters the trench. With the Luke shot i have the stars not joined to the new matte but for some reason i forgot to add the new star moving background in the shot in the clip. the stars were there just for movement reference. oh well. i decided that i didn't like the movement of the first trench shot so i have redone it. I've posted a new clip with a split screen comparison so you can see the differences between the new shots and the original SE ones. the shot of the TIEs leaving the docking bay has also been tweaked. Even though they remain in the original speed and flight plan they have independent movement although very subtle.

I haven't done anything to the speed in that shot i just banked the TIEs slightly. Don't forget the Falcon was reversing out of the docking bay so it would have been slower.

Ok, just a quickie here cuz i'm working flat out at the moment. I just wanted you guys opinions an a new Fx shot i have finished. One thing i have always hated is the shot where the Y-wings head towards the trench and the shot starts off with a bad 2D matte then a quick flash happens when joined with the model shot. it looks terrible and the join jumps right out at you. Well i have redone the 2D matte to help sort out this issue. I'm really happy with it but i just need some fresh eyes on it. the camera movement as it zooms in was really hard to get right so the final frame before the flash merges in with the model footage but this is the best i'm going to get it so this shot i am classing as complete. Its only a very short clip but there is a couple of new unseen Fx shots.

For Episode II, the "Article Not Found" is PART063.rar and Episode III is missing PART097.rar(I haven't tried Episode I yet, but I'm going to in a few minutes and will post back if it's missing any files). If anyone has these files or knows where I might be able to obtain them it would be greatly appreciated as they're the only ones I need to complete the download. Thanks in advance for your help.

Just download all of the par2 files for each release and there should be plenty to reconstruct the missing files you need.

Yes your right indeed, DTS would be a nice gadget but it would not make Ady's release any 'better'....

I almost do not know anybody who hasn't got a DTS-capable system, i personally think that a (professional) DTS track is a must. It's one off the things which let me decide if a buy a retail DVD or not, but in this case of Ady's release it has no extra value and can be left of so that the videobitrate can be as high as possible.

Well i've been pondering if i should include a DTS track or not but the bitrate would suffer because i would also have to include and AC3 track for all those that don't have DTS systems. But saying my release wouldn't have extra value to have this track must mean that you haven't been following the thread too closely. As i stated from the start the sound mix will be a completely new mix using the 5.1 DVd track as a base only. Surround channels have been redone, left & right have been changed also with the musical score taken mostly from the CD's which are higher quality than the original score on the 5.1 track, remixed FX and extras added. It would not be just a remix or a slight tweak to make it sound slightly better.

Saying that though i know people that their dvd player can't decode DTS unless through a surround system and if played through the TV there is no sound and also most cheap cinema systems don't do DTS either so its looking at the moment that it will contain just the 5.1 AC3 track. The only thing that would sway me to add DTS would be if i had a 6.1 DTS encoder. The DTS encoder i have been given (which i am very grateful for)can only handle 5.1 so no DTS track.

Yes the original sound is back but slightly tweaked. I hate that pathetic synthesised whistle that is on the DVDs. It was present in the original mix but only as part of the mix. I guess Ben Burrt struck again with this and mucked up the sound mix. How the hell can the sandpeople be scared of that? I know that Ben says they are easily scared but that's just ridiculous.

Is it possible for you to convert it?

as much as i would love to do a DTS track (especially a 6.1 track) i don't have a DTS encoder or the money to purchase one. So it will be Dolby Digital 5.1

You mentioned using the CD soundtrack as an audio source... does that mean that the scratchy, tinny 20th Century Fox fanfare on the 2004 DVD will be replaced with something that sounds a bit better?

Also, awhile back you mentioned tinkering further with that shot where a slew of TIEs fly in during the Death Star battle. Were you able to pull off what you had wanted?

The 20th Century Fox fanfare has been taken from a newly released Fox DVD so its miles better quality and in 5.1

I'm still in the planning stages of the TIE shot and will be a lot different than the original one so fingers crossed this can be done

Well i don't mind the if suggestions keep coming, i can always say no or its already ben fixed. I may have missed something that i planned to do after all. But , unless it is something i've missed, then the movie is complete apart from the Death Star battle and i won't be doing any revisions on anything already complete.

Adywan, one question/suggestion about the opening crawl. You mentioned earlier that you were likely going to use the Star Wars logo from a foreign language version so it more closely matched the PT for visual continuity. On the same vein have you considered using the opening music from a PT source? The reason I suggest this is the fact that the PT music was recorded in much higher quality. Since this is the point in the movie where the difference in audio quality is most noticeable, you could use the PT source during the crawl, then fade to the original score where the action on screen, mixed with the change in musical cues, would hide the change in audio quality.

No, i won't be using the PT score for the opening crawl but i am using the CD soundtrack instead for all channels apart from the centre channel because its actually higher quality than the DVD score.

That. Was. Awesome. If that doesn't make it as a bonus feature on the final disc, then there's no justice in this world. :-)

It is going to be a feature on the DVD along with a few extra goodies.

i've decided to go back and revisit the lightsaber duel. there was something that i wasn't quite happy with when watching the full render but i couldn't put my finger on what it was. well that was until the other night when i decided to watch ROTS for the first time in a while and that made me realise what it was. When the sabers clash there is the flash which is present in the OT , so it wasn't that, but i noticed something else when watching closely. When they are locked together there is a glow present that i totally missed and isn't there in the PT. I have gone back and added the glow and it looks so much better . I still have a bit of tweaking to do but i'm so much happier with it now.
Another thing i decided to revisit was the whole Tantive IV sequence. i still wasn't happy with the colouring so i started from scratch. The walls are now back to a better white than i had originally managed to get them ( as in the final trailer). Also the troops clothing changed colour throughout the sequence and i had originally turned the shirt to a light blue/grey but i didn't like this after viewing it. so i have gone back and recoloured their uniforms, frame by frame, and have managed to get a consistent colour for their uniforms in every shot now (unlike the damn 2004 DVDs). Very painstaking work but worth it for the result, i think

Well i have took note of the last few comments and i have done some minor editing and i'm really happy to say that......

STAR WARS REVISITED IS COMPLETE !!!!!

Its a bit shorter than i originally intended but this edit does sort out all the niggles that have been said recently by SynchG, beej199, Master Qui-Gon, vbangle, Darksaber & ron2112 about luke, leia, han, chewie & the rest of the stuff and this edit should just what you are looking for now. I'm so glad i have finally managed to complete it and i really hope you will all enjoy it. the DVd version should be along soon but for now i have managed to compress it to a very small xvid file without losing too much quality. It may be small but i assure you this is the full movie.

I can now finally have a well earned rest before i tackle my next project. i may do a version 2 of revisited that might come out towards the end of the year if the interest is still there.

Its uploaded to megaupload so if you need it to be uploaded to rapidshare then just ask.

enjoy

I think they are yellow in the PT, even in the end duel in Episode 3 which is blue vs. blue. Looks weird, yes I agree

Yes, they aren't plain white in the PT ( i should have said "whiter" and not "white")but the flashes are smaller and less noticeable. In ANH the flashes are large and have a yellow/ green colour to them and they just jump out at you. The PT flashes have a more orange / red glow to them. I decided to just go plain white because at the time i couldn't get the flash close to the PT colouring without being too harsh, but i have made another attempt and i have been able to get the colouring closer to the PT but it doesn't jump out at you.

I was unsure as to your intent with the edit, It seemed from the start that you were attempting to just fix the flaws that arose due to the LF treatment of the 2004 DVD's and add some seamless enhancements to the film. After watching this last trailer it feels you have pulled all the stops and went in a new direction changing the feel of the film as the 97 Special Editions did. Im not saying that in a bad way I just didnt expect some of the changes to be so drastic. Are you now trying to create a whole new feel to the movie or was it just getting caught up in visualizing how much better a certain scene would become with "X" being inserted/added/redone? Again Im not trying to criticize I was just wondering what your thoughts were behind the big picture. I hope it doesnt seem like Im trying to attack you cause thats not my intention at all, I am anticipating your release far more than anything planned by LF (if at all).

I haven't gone in a new direction. My original intent was always to redo as many of the FX work as possible because ANH is the one film that looks most dated now, especially since they added the new CG FX in the SE. I never thought in a million years that i would be able to do all of the things i wanted to do but as time progressed and i learned more i have been able to accomplish something closer to what i originally envisioned. Don't forget that from the beginning i wanted OT to fit in with the PT visually but without changing the story so i could watch all six movies in order without the 70's FX work on ANH looking so out of place after watching the PT

aren't the light saber clashes supposed to be sorta yellow?

They were a yellow/green in ANH but thats one thing that i hated after the other movies came out. The plain white flash now blends in better than it originally did and, although the PT flashes are smaller, their white appearence is more pleasing to the eye. After all why would there be a yellow flash from the clash of a blue & red sabre anyway? lol

Thanks for the comments guys. it is appreciated.

Unfortunately, Wookie Groomer, the HD versions available when i started this project weren't the best of quality so it will be standard DVD def only. I am using the better quality HD footage for all the latest FX work on the Death Star battle because it retains a lot ore detail when resized to 720 x 576 than the original DVd version. Also the edit so far has filled up 5 hard drives so if i had worked with the HD footage for everything i would have run out of space within the first couple of weeks. lol. It would ahve been ideal but too much work has already been completed to do a HD version, sorry.

Some good news now though. the funds finally went through with paypal so i got the final drive needed today. Went to my local Pc shop and purchased a 500Gb SATA-II drive so i now have enough space to finish the edit. a major big thanks to you guys. But thats not all. i can't believe my luck today. The store is running a promotional give-away prize draw thingy. because i spent over £60 i could chose 2 of the numbers they have printed on this board with the chance to win a prize. Well for some reason i chose 11 & 38 ( i wonder why) and i won with 38. I was expecting some sort of t-shirt or mug but no.... a bloody brand new ATI PCI-E X1950 pro graphics card. I have to admit i never liked the ATI cards and have always been a Nvidia man myself but this thing rocks( more so because it was free) . If i had been buying a new card (which i didn't need because mine wasn't that old and still did everything i needed it to anyway) i wouldn't have gone for an ATI but this changed my mind. I guess i'm still buzzing at the fact that i chose 1138 and won. Maybe its karma. lol

anyway i was going to have a well earned week long break away from the edit but now i'm buzzing too much i just want to work my ass off and get this out there.

thanks again guys

Info Wanted: Hypothetical Question About OT.com Projects
Time
I was actually thinking about this recently too. I'm pretty sure though that legally they wouldn't be able to do this. Although Lucasfilm owns the rights to the movies they wouldn't have the right to release any fan edit without permission from the creator or monetary compensation. A high-end fan edit would have had a lot of work done to it,whether it be editing, sound or FX work so Lucasfilm would have to pay the relevant fees for the work undertaken before they had a chance to do this. On the other hand this wouldn't necessarily stop Lucasfilm recreating any fan edit with their own company resources and releasing it as their own and maybe just put a small credit somewhere if at all.
