The Tantive IV shots show R2 with a relatively clean panel. The Tatooine footage has the panel much darker with a spot already wiped off for the bolt even before he is captured by the Jawas. More of me being nit-picky, but is seems that the wiped of area shouldn't appear until after he gets the bolt. This make sense? I'm not at home so I can't post any screencaps.

I think i know which mark you are talking about. Is it this one?

If it is then as it is consistent throughout that scene i have no plan on fixing it. It could be put down to the way he was "dirtied" for that scene. The mark i was more worried about was the shot where the Jawa is about to attach the bolt. you can clearly see the mark where a restraining bolt was to be placed. so i fixed that,

Ady, is this the first "behind the scenes" screencap from Star Wars Revisited?! Talk about insight into the "redevelopment" of Star Wars!

yes it is the first one. i plan on doing a "making of " documentary for the bonus DVD that will incorporate both original behind the scenes footage from old "making of" docs and new stuff showing how i did some of the work on Revisited . In that screenshot you can actually only see one third of the actual layers & footage on the project layout that was needed to create this one shot alone. i guess now you can see why its taking so long to complete.

here's the mash-ups page. has some great clips here. You do have to be registered at starwars.com to access it though because you have to sign in first.

Personally I 'm hoping for in frame / burnt into the picture because that is the most film-like in presentation... what say you?

The Greedo subtitles are burnt into the picture & in frame.

Now for some bad news....

There is still so much to do on this edit that a November release is now unlikely. There is still a very slim chance that it will still happen but i'm not going to rush anything. December is also probably off the books. At the rate i am going the later half of December is looking more likely but then that clashes with the Christmas postal rush so if this is the case then i will delay it until the beginning of January so there will be no postal problems but i may upload it to usenet at an earlier date, but juts the DVD-5 version for now

well i have to say that i would prefer to go down the DVD-9 route because this would give me more freedom for the menus without having to worry about the bitrate of the movie suffering. I'll still do a 2 disc edition because i won't have to rush to get the special features finished before i can finish the release

i haven't got a logo but i have been thinking about designing one but i've been a bit too busy.
Originally posted by: GhostAlpha26I wasnt sure what you meant here, is the movie going to be on 2 disks?

No the movie will be on the first disc and the special features on the second. But this is only if i decide not to go down the DVD-9 route.

For all the DVD cover makers here's a pack of 48 snapshots that you can use for the covers:

OFFICIAL SCREENSHOT PACK

As to the specifications I'm not too sure on all the fine details as yet. the runtime will be approx 2hours but i can't give you the exact time in minutes as i'm still working on it. It will have Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and its likely to be a 2 disc DVD-5 set. I tested a render of both DVD-5 & DVD-9 specs and there wasn't really any noticeable difference but this could still change so best to leave off and mention of the DVD disc format. i can't provide any menu shots as i haven't started those yet.

It is going to be called: STAR WARS - EPISODE IV but REVISITED would need to be on the cover along with ADYWAN. There will be both PAL & NTSC versions

Anything else like cover art is up to you. Have fun

Not a very nice response to someone who was just voicing their opinion. he has as much right to voice his opinion as you do so i don't see why you have to be so harsh to him just because he doesn't agree with what you said. and i certainly don't appreciate being called the organ grinder.

Originally posted by: erosAdywan, I'm refering to the cockpit shot side on to Luke before he fires at the tie. The stars and planet shouldn't move out of shot as the camera is fixed on Luke, not panning. Just an observation. OK

Well i have to disagree here somewhat. slowing the planet down takes away the visual speed element because your eye fixes on the planet and the death star surface then looks more like a moving conveyor belt. having the planet move at the speed that it would in the real world makes Luke look like he is almost standing still. In the original the stars moving slower didn't matter too much because your eyes see the fast moving surface and Luke looked like he was moving fast. Now add the Yavin planet and things change so i had to adapt this so i can still give the impression of Luke's speed.

I really can't understand why such small things as this should cause such a problem. After all we all want to have the OUT in better quality and that is riddled with errors in both FX & visuals. I guess i have created a monster.

Wow, i never thought that one explosion would cause so much fuss.

the TIE and the explosion were first composited without motion in a separate after effects composition. it was then added to the other elements and the motion path then added so that the explosion & TIE would have the same trajectory & scale. This is why the explosion looks like it is remaining central and because the camera is panning right and shrinking it quickly would make the explosion look very odd but it does shrink in scale to match the TIE (because it is on the same compositing track). I have tweaked the shot now so that the explosion moves slightly to the left.

Well let me start by thanking everyone that joined in with the Q & A on saturday night. I had great fun doing it so i'm glad you enjoyed it. I think i will do another one once the edit is finished so look out for that one.

An edited transcript of the Q & A is now available for those who want it.

Q & A TRANSCRIPT

I've provided it in both .txt & .rtf formats so hopefully there should be no problems reading it. The .rtf version has better formatting and is easier to read

Yes they do. they have a 10gb trial account. i use giganews and having 200 days retention is great and the price is good too and i almost never have to use the par files to repair incomplete files. Try giganews after you free trial with usenext.

i'm not sure if you will find the edits you are looking for on usenet though. I haven't seen them posted for a long time now

Sorry guys but due to a problem with my phone line i will have to postpone the Q&A until this Saturday at 12am GMT (so really Sunday morning). My router is on its way out ( its over 3 years old so its lasted well) keep getting disconected from the internet due to an overheating problem and until i get the new router this weekend then it just wouldn't be a good idea for me to try to do this. Sorry but this can't be helped

well only 4 have added me to their friends on MSN messanger yet so it looks like it will be a very shorty Q & A tonight. i will probably be online earlier than the 12am timeslot for anyone who can't make the timeslot and i may well be online quite late into the morning. It would be good to have the change to chat with some more of you especially the ones that have supported this project throughout.

What If The SE Were Only...
Time
I remember the "one last time" campaign and at first this didn't worry me because it was around the time that DVd was starting to take off so i just thought that they'll release the SE on home video the Lucasfilm will switch to DVD and release both versions. God how wrong was i? If they had kept the SE as exactly that , a Special Edition, then i would have been happy. But not with the way that the SE is the only version we are ever allowed to see on the big screen or in decent quality on DVD. I have the GOUT and i have only ever watched the first few minutes of ANH before i felt like smashing them with a hammer. They look so bad on my LCD TV ad don't get me started on the anamorphic issue.

In my opinion the SE should have been more about enhancing the FX work and yes maybe adding new scenes in but not changing the storyline of characters. Having Greedo shoot first was one of the biggest mistakes they could have done. What the hell was GL thinking? I also think that If we had decent versions of both the SE and OUT available and that GL hadn't decided that the SE was the only version of the OT that we can have at today's quality standards then i doubt there would be so many SE haters as that is what we would all see it as and nothing more.

Hell i love the SE, apart from a few things, but i also love the OUT. Hopefully now that we are starting to see the theatrical versions of various films restored and made available that George will wake up from his little LucasWorld and see that he is destroying a major part of cinematic history by denying the OUT even exists. Saying that the original negative was destroyed while making the SE and that it is impossible to do a high quality transfer is pure BS. I'm sure i read somewhere that they had to use footage from someone's (I think it was Kurtz) private copy because the negative was too deteriorated in places so why can't they just use that to restore the OUT elements? It would be much work as it would only require those shots to be done, no no huge buck spent.

But after saying all this i do recon we will get the OUT in high quality when the saga is released on whatever HD format Lucas decides to go with. Can you imagine the sales if he gave us the OUT & SE in HD? And lucas is all about making money at the end of the day so failing to take the opportunity to do this would be a huge marketing disaster ( or maybe this is what he has planned and releasing the OUT in such crappy quality on DVD will make people go out and Buy HD players and rush to buy these sets . Hmmm)
