Well if you look frame by frame at the shot you will see that as luke jumps across luke actually has the the stunt saber with short blade that was used during filming so it would make sense that it was ignited. Something for me to think about for my edit i guess.

I don't think that Luke should have the sith eyes though. He never turned to the dark side so wouldn't have had them.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. It looks like i may have nailed it. i have added a couple of extra shots and gone through all the star wars soundtracks and i have found a few pieces that may fit.

unfortunately i don't have that CD or have ever heard the music, which is a shame because any extra avenues to go down at this stage would be great.

I wouldn't discount the possibility of using a bit of music from somewhere in the PT just because it's from the PT, or leaving a section musicless. Some of the greatest action scenes have no music; the chariot race in Ben-Hur is the most obvious to me, and of course they made the same choice for most of the pod race in The Phantom Menace. Cueing the music part way through a sequence (like they did in the pod race) is an excellent way to heighten the excitement. If you can't find appropriate music, please don't cut the sequence.

You misunderstood what i meant when i said about not using the PT music. The main reason is that the style is a lot different from that of the OT and does sound out of place when used. I have tried various cues from the PT but it really doesn't sound right. i have also tried to have the scene with no music but that doesn't work also. i'm going to stick at it because i think this scene will really bring the Death Star TIE battle into the new century.

thanks for the link. i would love to be able to get this doc in good quality. unfortunately the clip isn't good enough quality to be able to do anyhting with.
Originally posted by: teharriCan anyone send me links to clips of the project that is being worked on in this thread.

I think most of the links will be dead by now apart from probably the trailers. It wouldn't be worth me re-posting the clips (to be honest i have lost track of what i have actually posted) but i may be posting a new clip pretty soon.

Now onto the edit:
i've just completed the new sequence for the death star battle. i'm really happy with how it turned out and really fleshed out the TIE battle now. But i have hit a major problem. I have been trying for the past couple of days to try and find some music that will fit this sequence and have so far hit a brick wall. everything i have tried so far just doesn't work along side the original music. I think the greatest problem i'm having is that i am so use to the music in its original form that any new addition spliced into it is never going to sound right to my ears. The PT music is really out of the question because the feel of most of Williams' music for this trilogy is so different than the OT and i also want to only use Williams' music. So i now have a dilemma: if i can't sort out the music for this sequence then it will have to be relegated to the deleted scenes section, which after the months of work i have put into this section would be a great shame, but i'm not giving up just yet.

well i've just got back from seeing Alice Cooper & Motorhead and i definitely won't be able to work on any audio for a while. Me & My eldest daughter managed to get right to the front and unfortunately i have totally lost my hearing apart from a very high pitched ringing. . Oh well, it was worth it.

I remember you saying the project files were all loosless but I didn't know if you were going to compress the files before you converted them to mpeg 2. So everything stays looseless until it's compressed to mpeg 2, no compressing before that?

The 2004 PAL DVD-9 is converted to Lossless avi and it remains that way until it is finished and ready to convert back to MPEG2 so no other compression method in between so the video image remains as good as possible

Not too sure what you mean by this as I can only use Mpeg2 for the final DVD. But if you mean what codec will it be rendered to before encoding to mpeg2 then the complete project uses Lagaryth lossless codec which creates huge sized files, but with all the different encoding stages that this edit has had to go through, i haven't lost any quality at all. so far the edit has taken over 2.5TB of disc space. The Mpeg2 encoding will be done using CinemaCraftEncoder as this is the best software Mpeg encoder there is out there but will take about 24 hours to do a 9 pass encode, but the results are well worth it. I did a couple of test encodes this week: 1 for a DVD-9 and another for a DVD-5 and to be honest there is almost no noticeable difference in quality, which shows just how good CCE is .

Thats a good suggestion Sluggo but those shots are in the bag now and i don't want to do anything more to them at this late stage.

Some good news.... i'm on the last 10 shots now. Worked my ass off this past week and everything worked out just the way i wanted them too so i'm pretty happy now.

Help Wanted: I can has Litesabr? Star Wars in lolspeak.

I always use Subtitle Workshop. You can edit DVD subtitles easy (you need to rip them first and convert them to a readable format, but there are many sites that you can get sub tracks ready to use) and you can create your own too. It has a preview window so you can check to see if everything is syncing up. but as long as you have the sub track that matches the framerate of the video then you should have no sync problems. You can also convert the finished subs to both PAL & NTSC timecoded tracks at the click of a button.

yeh, its looking less likely to be a 2007 release now, which is a shame because i really wanted this to be for the 30th anniversary. But i would rather take my time and get things done right rather than have to leave things out due to time constraints. If i can't get it out by X-mas then i will post a nice long preview prezzie for you all.

What happened to the live-action show?
Time
The live-action is still going ahead. Rick McCallum spoke at "reunion 2" in France . heres a snip of what he said:

Live action:
- Boba Fett will certainly be in the series and Rick wants Daniel Logan for the part.
- The series will be on cable.
- He will have a contract for 100 episodes and Rick hopes it will be extend to 400, maybe with Expanded Universe characters after the first 100.
- So no EU character for "now" in the live action show. All the characters will be new ones.
- Six screen writers have been hired and will start work in November
- McCallum hopes to have John Williams for the score but it is too early to tell
- Every episode will have it's own original score

The Clone Wars Animated Series:
- The first season will have 21 episodes of 22 minutes. Steve Sansweet has already seen 6 of them.
- We will see more trailers once a TV network has been chosen
- The series may be broadcast in many countries at the same time

Saga Box Set:
- Lucasfilm is waiting to see who wins: HD DVD or Blue Ray.
- The box set will have around 100 hours of documentaries about the 6 films.

Yeh, the changes are pretty noticable. You can see the differences in the comparisons below. The shots are all taken from exactly the same frame for each version. The '97 SE had more rats & a different speeder and as you can see the speeder entered frame a lot earlier. In my version i have removed the rats from the left hand side of the screen and lengthened the shot so you see the speeder enter the spaceport now. Those are the only changes, apart from colour of course.

Don't try to justify yourself mate! you will never find a more retched hive of geeky, whiney bastards on any other website!!

Well eros, i see you have a witch as your avatar. If you think we're all geeky, whiney bastards here then why don't you just remove that broomstick from your asshole and fly yourself out of here. Why do you never have anything constructive to say nowadays?

Now this all depends on the quality of the DVDplayer & the screen its being shown on. Viewing using some high quality components can make viewing even a DVD-5 look good on a big screen. Of course it would be nothing compared to HD
Maybe you and remixerboss should start you own website where you can just sprout shit at each other all day.

Yes, you are correct. Someone posted the first trailer to youtube pretending to be me. Since then he handed his account over to me so any clips in the future posted by adywanuk will be through me. I might put some clips on at some point but probably only a couple.

Yeh, i'm watching the showing on ITV now. It's such a pity that its been zoomed to 16:9 because there are some shots on the DVD where the colour was unfixable but in the '97 SE there was no problem so i could have used this version because its a lot better quality than the SE version i have already. There might be snippets i can use for a couple of the colour fixes though. Its also a shame that ITV is only transmitting in 2.0 and not the 5.1 track.
