Yes, it appears a couple of times throughout the movie.

nohandluke, thats an amazing offer, thanks. The SE NTSC set is the only one that contains a 5.1 soundtrack though so i already have that covered.

I've managed to fix a few sections of the audio with the reversed problems without having to flip the music channels. so hopefully everything should be where it is supposed to be by the end of it, but i'm not a miracle worker and may not be able to salvage everything out of the mess that is the 2004 audio.

Well there is no way i'm going to be able to get this thing finished before Xmas. The audio is just so problematic its a lot of work to get it anywhere near something that i am truly happy with. So no xmas full XVID I'm afraid.

But i will be posting something as a small xmas prezzie to everyone very soon.... The ENTIRE Mos Eisley sequence. From the Highpoint view of the spaceport right up until the destruction of Alderaan and with 5.1 audio so you can crank up your systems to hear just what the new audio is going to be like. Keep an eye on the thread because it isn't going to be far, far away.

Info Wanted: the bare minimum - what would you want put back?

Well Lucasfilm wouldn't even have to restore the whole movie . All they need to do is restore every changed shot. They already have the groundwork done for the 2004 DVDs (minus the horrible colour problems of course). It would probably only cost them the same as adding Naboo & bloody Hayden at the end of ROTJ anyway. Hell i'd do the restoration work on it for free if it meant we had a real OUT in high quality.

I'm not too sure that i would want to touch Yoda at all. I may be able to add some facial movements but does he need it? The performance in ESB was perfect, in my opinion.

Well i've just got to the detention cell shoot-out and i have just noticed something that i haven't seen mentioned before (it probably has been but i just haven't seen it reported). We all know about the reversed music channels in the surround but what the hell is happening with the sound Fx in the front L & R channels? The music is correct but the bloody FX are reversed for the most part. I noticed something similar in the cantina and a few other minor places. Just listen to the blast that han fires when he says " i can't hold them off forever.." He is on the right hand side and the bloody blaster effect comes from the left speaker. Most of that scene is screwed. I guess these fuck ups are again down to creative decisions. the truth is Ben Burtt got his hands on the mixing desk and made a total screw up of the audio. Doesn't this guy know his left from his right? Surely with all the equipment they have at Skywalker sound this would have stuck out like a sore thumb and someone would have noticed it. Maybe they are all just too scared to criticize anything in Lucasfilm anymore. This is going to be a nightmare to fix even with the use of the laserdisc 5.1 because upon finer checking that too has problems and the dialogue bleeds into the front L & R channels throughout most of the movie, But ESB & ROTJ are almost perfect.

I guess i have a long way to go yet

The way i think about it is that his ship was damaged, like wedge was, during the battle and was unable to continue with the fight but stayed close by as sort of a back up. Either that or it was the documentary crew.

Oh yeah. one critique if you dont mind. The screenshot that shows the Y-wing in the yavin hanger, the engine doees't appear to be connected to the hull of the ship. What do you think about this?

Damn, I don't know how i could have missed that. It's definitely just the front part of the Y-wing with the wing placed next to it though. Oh well.

Well this is the very first clip i posted but its named different because it was taken from the master video. I have to say that it was weird seeing this after all this time. there isn't 1 single clip in this video that made it into the final cut. I'm so glad i discovered Adobe After Effects because looking at this clip the edit would have been shit. lol This is the only surviving clip that i can find on my hard drive.

I knew I'd get raked over the coals, oh well. I don't see how I was being a jerk at all, he can just as easily reject my suggestions, it's not like I am forcing anything. Some people in here have an angry/hostile mentality.

Is there a thread yet for suggestions on ESB Revisited?

That actually isn't my list. That's tellans list for his edit. he was demonstrating how we are on a similar path edit wise.

i don't think anyone was having a go at you. It's just that i did say that a while back that i wasn't going to be taking any more suggestions because its so late in the edit now. The problem is that if more suggestions keep coming in i might see something i hadn't thought of and want to do it and the edit will never get finished. I don't mind answering questions at all but please no more suggestions.
You said you got rid of all the floating spy droids in Mos Eisley, again I say why? Especially the one in the alley where C3PO and R2 are hiding behind that door. I don't see how that part was slap-sticky.
No, i have only removed the one where they stop the speeder at the checkpoint. this was an addition that served no purpose. Its only there for the one shot then disappears, whereas the one where they are looking for the droids sticks with the troopers which makes more sense . so i only removed the one that was seen first.
Also, you said you got rid of the bucking Ronto shot with the Jawa because it was outside the cantina, but it was altered by ILM and more buildings were added to the background to disguise the fact, you could disguise it more and still paint out or alter part of the Cantina looking part and keep the shot. Or you could paint out Luke's Landspeeder zooming by it, or both. I know some here hate all slapstick, because it makes they think it's all childish, but as my wife said when I was discussing this with her, sometimes things like this happens in real life, things bump into other things in bustling city life.

No, it was partly that reason but i got rid of that one mainly because it was plain stupid. It was a sign of things to come with the PT and was a totally different kind of humour than we see in the OT so it just had to go.
When Luke ignites the lightsaber in Kenobi's house, I see some king of cord or something in his sleeve under the sabe hilt? I see something there, it's a quick and fleeting thing as he moves the saber around, but maybe it's a bracelet or something. I just wondered if it was a cord like you painted out of the Kenobi saber later in the movie during the duel.

I didn't remove the cord from this scene because i just couldn't do it good enough. If you also look closely you can see the battery pack stitched to the inside of his sleeve.
OK, but I would have left it, but it's a personal choice, I personally liked the Rontos, and do we still see any other than far off ones? I meanone could argue that any CG creature was put there out of whimsy. Did you get rid the Ronto the guy has on a leash just as they pull up to the Cantina?

yeh the ronto on the leash has stayed in because that actually is a pretty good addition. thats the sort of shot that fits in but the others didn't.

I have just updated page 1 with the complete list of the video changes. I will be posting some more screenshots on the first page soon too.

Yes, sorry i forgot to reply to that one. So much going on at the moment. I am planning on trying to tweak them to sound more like the PT. they do sound a bit too tinny in ANH. And yes, your name made the credits.

Did you fix the person walking away behind Han near cockpit when they escape Tatooine? I believe it was Obi-Wan but he was sitting by this time so it did not make sense.

Yes that's been fixed.

Why did you get rid of both Rontos in the sequence where the Stormtroopers stop the landspeeder, I can understand getting rid of the one that crosses so close to the camera, but why the one there in the background at the tail end of the sequence?

i removed the second one because it just seemed to appear and had no other reason for it being there than just to show of what they could do with CG so it went.

as for the clips, i no longer have those clips on my PC and i've lost track of what i have posted so i won't be able to post them again. sorry

Well i just received the laserdisc player today and immediately hooked it up to my pc's optical input. OMG. how did they screw up the 2004 mix so bad when the 5.1 track on the laserdiscs are so nice? It isn't perfect by any means but this will be so invaluable to my edit. theres also a possiblity that i could make a 5.1 track for the OUT too, but i'll leave that 'til after this edit is finished.

Ok, some news.

I've just finished the new end credits and everyone that has posted in this thread up until today is now included in the credits, well apart from Remixerboss because he's a dick..

I've also managed to get hold of a laserdisc player with a demodulator and the SE Laserdisc boxset, so i'm going to attempt to rip the 5.1 audio from that and use it as a basis mix for the audio alongside the 2004 mix & monomix.

A Xmas XVID isn't guaranteed because there is still a lot of work to do, but if it is released it will be the best quality & res i can get it while keeping the filesize down.

Another thing I didn't see mentioned in this entire thread, unless I missed it somehow. Jon Knoll mentioned that ILM forgot to make Luke's leading RED 5 X-WING have 5 RED stripes on each wing, as all have just 2 stripes in that scene. Is it possible to do anything with this?

All the Xwings in the SE CG shots used the Red 2 model. but in the shots where you see the stripes on Luke's Xwing i have added the extra stripes in the shots that are possible to fix.

I've read all 112 pages of this thread and as many have said before, Adywan, thank you!!! I am totally for the revision of the OT, but done right. And I think you are doing it right. If it were for me I would update all displays which shouldn't be to hard to do, and some other electronic devices, as those things look most outdated compared to the PT. And as Mojo_LA (i think) said, if you cannot do a scene perfectly or if a scene has not real purpose, leave it out. And please do take your time, and do it as it should be done.

PS. When I read the list of changes, I was so happy to see the interrogation probe altered, but when I saw the clip, despite the 'improved' syringe, it still looks outdated, because you have only changed the needle, not the whole syringe. Would this be to hard to do? The really stands out for me - hyperspace, light sabers, and an old-fashioned syringe. It is just outdated.

The Interrogation Droid was finished in the clip so i won't be making any more changes to that. As for the displays All the displays have had some tweaking done to them, some have been redone completely and others, such as the TIE & X-Wing displays have just had some colour tweaking done to them and haven't been replaced. The TIE display was used in the Jedi fighter in ROTS so no need to change anything in the ships really.

And you would be correct

Well some good news... i added a couple fo extra shots to the new Death Star TIE battle sequence and the music suddenly fits into place so it definitely making it into the final edit. I'm so pleased with this sequence so it would have been heartbreaking to have to leave it out just because of the music.
Some not so good news. I thought i was down to my last 5 shots to do so i did a quick complete render to see how its looking and i noticed that there is actually about 30 more shots to do. Luckily most are just quick fixes but a few are going to be a bit more work. So it is lucky i have postponed the release until January, but there may be an XVID version available before Xmas

Well if you look frame by frame at the shot you will see that as luke jumps across luke actually has the the stunt saber with short blade that was used during filming so it would make sense that it was ignited. Something for me to think about for my edit i guess.

I don't think that Luke should have the sith eyes though. He never turned to the dark side so wouldn't have had them.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. It looks like i may have nailed it. i have added a couple of extra shots and gone through all the star wars soundtracks and i have found a few pieces that may fit.

unfortunately i don't have that CD or have ever heard the music, which is a shame because any extra avenues to go down at this stage would be great.

I wouldn't discount the possibility of using a bit of music from somewhere in the PT just because it's from the PT, or leaving a section musicless. Some of the greatest action scenes have no music; the chariot race in Ben-Hur is the most obvious to me, and of course they made the same choice for most of the pod race in The Phantom Menace. Cueing the music part way through a sequence (like they did in the pod race) is an excellent way to heighten the excitement. If you can't find appropriate music, please don't cut the sequence.

You misunderstood what i meant when i said about not using the PT music. The main reason is that the style is a lot different from that of the OT and does sound out of place when used. I have tried various cues from the PT but it really doesn't sound right. i have also tried to have the scene with no music but that doesn't work also. i'm going to stick at it because i think this scene will really bring the Death Star TIE battle into the new century.

Originally posted by: teharriCan anyone send me links to clips of the project that is being worked on in this thread.

I think most of the links will be dead by now apart from probably the trailers. It wouldn't be worth me re-posting the clips (to be honest i have lost track of what i have actually posted) but i may be posting a new clip pretty soon.

Now onto the edit:
i've just completed the new sequence for the death star battle. i'm really happy with how it turned out and really fleshed out the TIE battle now. But i have hit a major problem. I have been trying for the past couple of days to try and find some music that will fit this sequence and have so far hit a brick wall. everything i have tried so far just doesn't work along side the original music. I think the greatest problem i'm having is that i am so use to the music in its original form that any new addition spliced into it is never going to sound right to my ears. The PT music is really out of the question because the feel of most of Williams' music for this trilogy is so different than the OT and i also want to only use Williams' music. So i now have a dilemma: if i can't sort out the music for this sequence then it will have to be relegated to the deleted scenes section, which after the months of work i have put into this section would be a great shame, but i'm not giving up just yet.
