Added a visual comparison between the colour correction done so far on ESB:Revisited and the 2004 DVDs on the first page of this thread

You call it "post-production". It's sad that you have to start at the end to get to the beginning.

:-P

ha ha ah. that'll teach me to edit a post when i've been drinking.

I checked through the last few weeks of postings, and don't see much detail about the burning process, though it seems to be a bit unconventional...

I downloaded the NTSC DVD-9 from Usenet, and the NFO file says that ImgBurn is included in the RAR (it's not), and to specifically to use this program to burn the disc. I downloaded the latest version of ImgBurn (2.4.1.0) to do the job. When I tried to burn the ISO file, I got the following message:

"Optimal L1 Data Zone Start LBA: None Found! (VTS_51)
This image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto a double layer (OTP Track Path) disc.
None of the cells meet the 'DVD-Video specification' criteria for a potential layer break position.
Do you want to continue anyway?"

I said yes, and it started to burn. I was never prompted with a checkbox about the layer break as the NFO describes. The thing burned all the way through with no error messages, but the result was a coaster which is not even recognizable in the drive. Can anyone shed any light?

I get the same error. Are we supposed to unpack the ISO with WINRAR before burning? Then follow the directions listed below? Please, if anyone successfully burned NTSC DVD-9, please post the directions you used. Thanks.

I guess you have 2 usernames here or someone's copied and pasted your question. i did answer your question the first time you asked. There is an easy fix out now. The PAL version is fine it seems that its only the NTSC that has problems with Imgburn on certain computers.

Ady, could you post SFV's for both the NTSC and PAL DVD-9's? Specifically, SFV's of the DVD files (VIDEO_TS, DVD_ROM, JACKET_P, etc.) that came straight from your authoring program's output would be really nice to know that we're getting the correct files. That, and I guess it couldn't hurt to have the exact layer break point # for both versions as well. Thanks again!

It's very weird that just RAR'ing up an ISO would change something within the disc files. Strange...

I know its really strange because the layer break is correct on the rarred files on my pc but not when i download them off usenet. The layerbreak for the NTSC should have been set to cell 28 (although cell 27, which is the same as the PAL works fine too when burned with a different program than Imgburn). My iso has it set to 28 but the usenet one is 27.

How do i create sfv files?

Probably won't be in any fit state to answer any questions for the next day or so. Just hit the big 41 today so the booze will be flowing tonight (well it already has so its getting more difficult to type or read anything), so god knows what state i'll be in tonight & tomorrow. lol

One peculiar thing with it however. When I just scan through the DVD chapter by chapter with the "next" button with my Sony DVD player's remote, when it gets to the end of the credits and I hit "next" again it took me straight to the Jar Jar death scene...then hitting "menu" took me the "deleted and Extended Scenes" menu....if that helps any.....

No, thats just the way the DVD authoring program sets the files.

I really can't understand whats happening. I've done another test burn using the files i posted and creating a new ISO with PGC edit and i get no errors. if you could post screenshots of the errors then i may be able to help

thats strange vbangle. i don't get that error at all. I don't click on the "VOBU/ECC search" button at all just tick the "Don't update IFO/BUP files" box.

Ok. try this

download these files HERE

unpack and replace the new files with the ones in your VIDEO_TS folder of your unpacked DVD

Open the unpacked DVD with Pgcedit and let it do its scanning. Once that is done just go straight to BURN DVD/CREATE ISO and create the DVD. the layer break has already been set so you don't have to change anything. This should burn ok now. I've tested both methods and haven't had any problem. If this fails i'm going to have to repost the whole thing

Well i have just tested my original iso and it does come up with the layer break option. Also unpacked the rar files i posted and again fine. Now here's the strange thing. I downloaded the set from a.b.starwars and unpacked the iso and its a different size to my original iso. Also the layer break is now in a different place. It should be on cell 28 but this one is now on cell 27 which completely screws up the iso. How the hell can this happen? all i did was rar up the NTSC Iso and upload it. There should be no way the files would be different. I'm working on a fix now.

sO please, until the fix is done DO NOT post the NTSC DVD-9 to torrents or anywhere else. Thanks

oh and Imgburn is included. It is in the DVD-ROM folder

Ok Here's the fix:

Download pgcedit HERE

Mount the NTSC ISO in daemontools (or any other image mounting program)
Create a folder on your hard drive called "Star Wars Revisited NTSC"
Drag all the contents of the iso from the mounted image to this folder
Open Pgcedit and click on "open DVD" and select the VIDEO_TS folder in the newly created folder on your drive
It will scan the files and once this is finished click on "close" in the "find BOVs"pop up box
In the left hand side pane you will see a list. Scroll down until you get to "VTST 51, TTN 1 (2:07:35) and double click on this line.
A new box opens. scroll until you get to "27". you will see that it does not have a tick by it in the box on that line. tick the box and then click "OK"
Now goto "File>BURN DVD/CREATE ISO"
a pop up box will ask you if you want to save the DVD. Click "YES" then OK
in the next box make sure that the DL media type is set to "Double layer DVD+R"Set the destination for the new ISO
now click ok and a pop up box will say there are extra files (DVD-ROM) and do you want to burn them as well. click "YES" "and a new box will appear to set the layer break
Cell 28 should be highlighted. you don't have to do anything here. Just click yes and the new ISO will be created
Then burn the new iso with Imgburn

Well after completing the first colour correction pass i'm pretty glad that i ahve decided to start this stage a lot earlier. The colours are more messed up than ANH. This is going to take hell of a lot more time than ANH to fix the colour issues. They really messed up on this one. You can go from one shot that is over blue, next one has a green tint, next one almost perfect, then one with a red tint amongst other horrors. At least with ANH the colour variations didn't change so frequently.

This one is going to be a nightmare

Well i got a bit bored. Just didn't know what to do with myself with all the extra free time. lol

I'm only actually doing a simple colour correction pass for now. i'll be doing a more accurate shot-by-shot correction after i've had a few months break, but i just wanted to get this part out the way first.

Alternate idea - instead of showing DSII at the end of Empire, just imply that that's where the fleet is headed after the Falcon escapes them at Bespin.

Falcon goes to hyperspace.
Vader pondering what just happened.

Vader (walking down the length of the bridge): "Admiral Piett, set your course for the Endor system."
Piett (as Vader crosses in front of him): "Yes, Lord Vader."

Fleet goes to hyperspace.
Continue with ending of film as it exists.

If the timing is right, you won't even have to worry about lip sync. With Vader, it's just a matter of pacing for how fast he walks vs how fast the line is, and with Piett, it's a short enough line that he should be able to get it off during that second or so that Vader's cape blocks our view of him.

We don't need to see DSII. For the people who know what happens at the opening of Jedi, this scene is an easter egg. For people who don't know (kids of the future), it will give them something to reference back to when they do see Jedi... "Ah, so THAT'S why the fleet went to Endor at the end of Empire!"

This way, the implication is that DSII has been under construction for a while and going there is just a matter of "getting on with business".

But we don't actually need any of this for a reference back when watching Jedi. This has already been set into place with the ending as it exists now. The reference to the search for han, jabba the hutt & the rendezvous at Tatooine does this perfectly. Also the rebel fleet aren't heading to Endor at the end of ESB. They don't even know where the Death Star is being built or even if there is a new one. The rebel fleet are massing near sullust and the Bothan spies get the info for the rebels.

There is no need to add any sort of additional scenes in ESB. This movie is most flawless one in the whole saga (minus cosmetic improvements and a bit of de-SEing). Adding the DS2 or any mention of it (or endor) is totally unnecessary and steps into GL's SE changes territory in that its been put in just because it can.

Never a direct underview

Well it wouldn't be a direct underneath view i would be using anyway. I want to get away from that ANH look that the opening of ROTJ has now. i was actually thinking of panning down to the executor and the shuttle & ties approaching then the camera pans as it follows the shuttle to reveal the Death Star above endor .Hopefully i can get someone to do a nice CG render of the shuttle and have a panning shot from executor to Death Star. But thats years away yet so i may be able to do CG work myself by then

i do like the idea of seeing the death star under construction but only as a special feature. It doesn't need to be seen in ESB but i think i would like to add it as a deleted scene.

I also want to change the opening of Jedi. As it stands at the moment that movie, to me, is too much like a rehash of ANH. Even the opening shot is almost the same. Why didn't Vaders shuttle emerge from the Executor? Surely he would be onboard that ship. Its there later on so why not at the neginning when Vader arrives? I think in my edition it will be a shot of the shuttle emerging from the Superstardestroyer but without having the same over head shot as it is now.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm never buying Epson again. I had an Epson a couple years ago and it was bar none the worst printer I have ever owned!

Sorry to hear about your problems with Epson. I've had an R200 for a few years now with no complaints, other than ink is insanely expensive (like any inkjet though).

As far as labels, I swore them off many years ago after my friend's brother ruined his brand-new car CD deck due to a label coming off while inside it.

You can buy compatible inks for the r200 (same one i have) and a full set is only about £5 if you are in the uk from here:
EPSON R200 INKS

I just noticed a comment on fanedit.org on the Revisited page that has me a bit confused. It says:
"I’ve downloaded the DVD edition, is very good, great work, but the subtitles are TOOOOOOOO small (I’m latin american viewer)."
Now unfortunately i can't reply because my password is no longer working and attempting to reset it is failing every time. But i wonder if anyone has had problems with the subtitles. i made them so they were slightly larger than the ones on the 2004 dvds, so could it be a player issue?

and about sticking any labels onto a DVD then i have many ruined DVDs from years ago thanks to using labels. certain glues used will deteriorate the disc in time. avoid at all costs unless you want a coaster later on.

Has anyone else noticed that the DVD-9 is stuck at about 2.38GB since yesterday? Ady's ISP must really be sticking it to him right now as he appears to be getting no upload speed.

You need to refresh your headers. the PAL completed its upload at 3.03pm GMT and the NTSC version is going up now. Problem now is i have no phone. the stupid asses have fixed the internet but left me unable to use the phone.

Dunno what you are looking at B, but here's the name from the one I am downloading right now...

STAR.WARS.EP.4.REVISITED.PAL.DVD-9.[003/174] - "star.wars.revisited.DVD-9.PAL.part001.rar" yEnc

Nothing about NTSC there....

Cheers

I figured out what the problem was. The main filename has NTSC in the title, but when you click on the collection for the individual .rar files they're all labeled as PAL. I think Ady just mistakenly typed in NTSC where he meant to put PAL. Now I can see that this is definitely the PAL version being upped first.

Yeh i made a bit of a cockup. Ignore those first few files that have NTSC in the header because they are incomplete. The NTSC version will be about a week away at these speeds

I've added the cover to the first page now too.

i give up. Someone or something is out to get me. Just started uploading the PAL but it was crawling and i mean crawling. opened up my emails and there was one waiting for me from my isp:

"please be aware that from 17:00 on the 12th may 2008 your line may be restricted to 16kbps upstream and 512kbps downstream due to urgent maintenance at the exchange in your area. The work should take no longer than 48 hours but your speed will likely not improve until your profile is reset, normally within 10 working days"

thats just taking the piss. there is no possible way i can upload this now with those speeds and i'm still having to pay the full months money to my isp. So i guess i'm just going to have to wait until i get a decent enough speed to be able to get this out

not happy :(
