Hey does anyone know where i can find an xvid version of Revisited? I was cleaning files from my pc and it got deleted, I was searching through torrent sites and a seeded one is hard to come by, thanks!

EDIT: I can get the DVD 5 & 9's, are those better quality than the xvid?

yes, get the DVD-9 as this is the best quality available and the finished version.

is it possible to just watch it on my pc as opposed to burning a DVD? Also ady do you know where i can find the DVD-9 version, i can only get DVD-5 that previous post was a mistake.

seriously? wow! that's a shocker.

Well it was similar to the Tantive IV, picture it as the tantive IV but with the falcon's cockpit...

Bleh.

there aren't many photos left of the original Millennium falcon filming model because it was modified and became the Tantive IV. the only ones ever seen on display have only ever been the prototype models. this has caused some people to argue that the Tantive IV was never meant to be the falcon, but luckily there were photos taken before the model was modified which proves that the falcon was indeed the Tantive IV .

hahahaha I can't picture Yoda talking like that but funny indeed. This post office business is a real shame, it seems service only goes so far. I used to have that MF from back in the 80's, too bad it is all yello and old-looking now...it is still a great toy. Can anyone imagine how boring the ESB would've been if they had stuck with the original design?

 Original design of what?

the original design of the Millennium falcon was the Tantive IV

All kidding aside, are we still going to receive screencaps once every 7 to 14 days?  If not, no problemo.... I can somewhat patiently await till (hopefully) "winter" of 2010 (wasn't there supposed to be a monolith around Jupiter by this time?  BTW, what ever happened to the space program?).

lol. no, it was some newbie idiot that became very abusive towards me via PMs and emails a while back, which started out when i shot down one of his ideas to do with the EU and then that he wasn't in the credits for ANH:R even though he didn't join until after the deadline i had set for entries into the credits . i won't mention his screenname though because that's all in the past and he's long gone and he wasn't technically on the ignore list ( because i don't think that function was available back then) its just that i blocked his emails and ignored him on the boards. .

I too wish I had a TARDIS so I could strap a HD camera to the BBC cameras and have lovely high quality footage of all the Doctor Who episodes the BBC wiped (and erase Michael Grade from history).

But this isn't the Doctor Who Revisited thread.

Watching the chappy building the model brought back memories of building the MPC kit which my dad suprised me with when I was a sickly little boy.

I must be a related to the Skywalkers because I have very little patience and you really need it to do model kits.

I almost set the house on fire burning little blast marks into the thing.

It looked good when it was finished though.

I was too young to make a joke about the boastful sticker on the box :

i still have that model that i built in the 80's although the guns are missing now.

well our post office is a joke nowadays. they use to do checks on every potential employee and wouldn't employ anyone with a criminal record. Now anyone can work for the post office. i know people who are some of the biggest criminals on our estate that deliver the post. And you'd be surprised how many people they employ who can't read or speak English (or even read anything for that matter).

i just wish i had a TARDIS so i could instantly jump to the weekend so i can get my hands on this baby. :)

some great news. just received an email stating that my millennium falcon was shipped on Tuesday and should be with me by the weekend. Thank god its not coming via the Post Office. lol

Bout the other Falcon, i contacted the Post office Tuesday and they got back to me today saying that they can find no trace of it and that they will only be offering £30 as compensation but to the sender and NOT me. It is then up to me to get the money from the sender. What an F'in joke.

Ady I was curious to what you are doing for the large building behind the Falcon's Cloud city platform? TI'm talking about the tall building seen immediately before the falcon lands in the SE flythrough. It looks like that building is on the far right of your screenshots showing the Falcon on the platform. It's cool if you found a way to move it and keep the fly through.

well luckily the building behind the platform kinda looks like it could be the same level as the platform in the Se shot as it approaches the platform so for the landing shot i lowered the building so it fixed the continuity issues in all the other shots

i just watched fanboys. unless u like star wars, ur not gonna appreciate the humor. has a lot of classic characters from the movies.

carrie fisher is a doctor, the guy who plays lando, something reinholds, is a judge, william shatner makes an appearence with others.

the one part that made me laugh was when they meet a guy who has anakin and jar jar tatooed on his back the he says, "Yea, Jar Jar is gonna be the shit!"

not an awsome movie, but if u want a quick laugh, check it out.

i'm gutted that Fanboys isn't coming to the UK and no DVD release over here on the horizon. Luckily the writer of Fanboys, Ernie Cline, has kindly offered to send me a signed copy.

Ady, I'm curious, do you have any plans to address the issues with this sequence? I hate how the size differences between the Falcon and the SD are inconsistent between shots.

Sevb32 said:

Ady do you have the "Art of SW the Empire Strikes Back" book? It has blueprints of the Hoth Base. There are only three alcoves on the right side (As you are facing from the outside looking in) and four on the left side.

thanks for your email Sevb32. yes i do have the art of ESB. The blueprints are for the studio set. it does seem that the hangar is supposed to be a lot deeper than they were able to do on a set though. There's only one shot we see from the exterior that shows the true scale so should be an easy fix. (famous last words)

Enigmas said:

Glad to see things worked themselves out. Thanks a lot Sketchrob!

Though I am curious as to what sequence(s) the falcon model is actually needed for. I assume the shots in question are fairly vital to the edit, as Adywan is going through considerable trouble to aquire the material he needs for them. Ady is re-shooting the asteroid canyon scene...and what else?

not only is it needed for the new hangar set but also there are a few shots throughout the movie where the falcon needs replacing, but it will be used a lot more in ROTJ:R

Are you just assuming that, or did Adywan actually confirm that? I saw the trailer but the edit doesn't come out until next year and even though he used that dalogue in the trailer, it doesn't mean it is going in the final edit.

yes i did confirm it which you would have known if you had read the thread like i suggested.

Janskeet said:

I noticed in this frame the colour suddently jumps brighter for like 2 or 3 frames and then goes back to its consistent colour tone used throughout. Adywan, I'm sure you picked this up in colour correction?

Adywan, were you going to do anything about Vader's inconsistent skin tone on the back of his head? As you can see on the right his skin is much more yellow than the left:

I found a spelling error:

1. this has already been fixed in the colour correction stage

2. nothing wrong with the skin tone at all. in fact its a lot more realistic than his skin when we see him unmasked in ROTJ

Janskeet , you have ignored every suggestion i have made to you to read the entire thread, yet you still ask questions that have been asked and fully answered many times, then question people who have bothered to read the thread when they give you the answer. peoples patience can only go so far. pointing out spelling mistakes in someone's post has sunk you to a new low. maybe you should check your own spelling before criticizing someone else's, as Ripplin pointed out. my patience, i'm afraid,  has run out. you may now become only the second person to have been put on my ignore list.

if you can't be bothered to read the thread then please don't be surprised when no none answers your questions that have already been answered.

So Ady, how far does the loss of the Falcon set you back? How soon do you think you'll be able to get another one?

Also, how are the other models, like the Wampa puppet, coming?

it's ok it all sorted now, thanks to a certain member of these boards ( i won't say who just in case they want to remain anonymous). A new falcon has been ordered from overseas so should be here in a couple of weeks

I'm starting to build the Wampa in the week. I've finalised the design i want and have been working out how to build the frame and articulation along with just how much of the Wampa i need to build. I may be posting some short "making of" video blogs as things progress

onto another note. i noticed something when i was planning out the model for the Hoth hangar as you can see here:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

the hangar in the last shot needs to be extended. Looks like the new hangar model set is going to be a little bigger than i thought

PS: ... and btw: I hate this 'visual' post writing editor. Is there a way to activate/see the usual 'code' based editing as known from other forums? ("[quote]" etc. instead of these visual blocks, which i seem to be incapable of managing ;) Or maybe i'm the only one having a hard time inserting a quote at the right point or deleting a image/quote from a block.

It's something with the pixel aspect ratio.  Almost all of Ady's clips have displayed in a stretched 1.78:1 AR in QuickTime for me on my Mac, because QuickTime tends to ignore pixel AR for AVI files and display them as square pixels.  My solution is to play them in VLC, which works beautifully, but since I hate VLC's interface, I re-encoded the trailer to h.264 MP4, which QuickTime displays properly, using HandBrake.  That's the one I uploaded to YouTube, as well.

thats really strange because it plays in the correct aspect ratio for me in quicktime. i wonder if its a problems with cross platform xvid?

Well Is there an alternative? What can we do? How much money exactly did you lose? What about the "He was in the hospital" story? Does it coincide with the date of the item being sent?

i lost just over £200. to be fair to the seller all the proof he provided does indeed seem to genuine. paypal informed me that he provided receipts for al model he posted on the same date as mine, which everyone has received some time ago and he also provided proof that he had indeed been in hospital form the 2nd may (i purchased the model on the 3rd) to the 9th and posted the item first class on the 12th. he said he hadn't replied to me emails because he was waiting to hear back from the post office so he could give me a better idea of what had happened to the model. If only he had paid the extra few quid then all this wouldn't have been a problem.

here's a bit of information i found

interesting to note about the later XVID codecs supporting AR. try updating to the latest XVID codec to see if that fixes the problem because all of my Vids are encoded with the latest version of koepi's Xvid codec v 1.2.1

It looks like your "mplayer" is even reporting the correct file info....must be a problem with the linux version of mplayer.

There's nothing wrong with mplayer (ffmpeg). And yes, it should be 2.35:1, that's the whole problem.

The header claims that the video is 16:9 (1.78:1), but it's not.

Gstreamer also respects the header btw. It's not very hard to just force it to use the correct a/r, but yeah, it'd be nice if the headers were correct ;-)

I've already added the force glow to Obi-Wan on Hoth. I mentioned it a short while ago.

As for vaders lights i thought you meant the shot of vader in the trailer . having looked at this scene now i can see what you men. i guess they forgot to turn the lights on his chest plate for the shots in the lift.

well i have a bit of news about the Falcon, and it isn't good. Finally the seller has decided to contact me and Paypal. He said that it was posted 2 weeks ago and that the post office has mislaid it. He has sent proof of postage to Paypal and they are satisfied that he has indeed posted it and closed the claim. Now the bad news is that he sent it via uninsured mail which has really fucked me off because the post office offers almost nothing in compensation when sent uninsured. it doesn't mater how valuable the item is supposed to be all they will offer me is £30 for losing it. The seller had proof that he had contacted the post office prior to contacting me to find out where it is and they can find no trace of it. So that's it. the falcon is gone. I'm really pissed off at the seller for sending something so valuable without the postal insurance just to save a couple of pounds (which the amount in postage i paid would have more than covered this). So this has set me back a lot now.

A true Trekkie would have better morals than that fraud. ;) Hope you can get that sorted out- was the transaction insured for $200 or $2000 (or the equivilent amounts)? And how much was the actual purchase? I had an issue with an xbox seller for $250, but as it was only insured for $200 I only got that much back.

well no insurance was offered on the postage. paypal is supposed to protect me though because it was paid through them and using a buy now. I can't understand why he's been sending out other peoples though and not mine. he didn't even have the decency to say that he had either been delayed again in posting it or that he has posted it. if he tries to make out he posted it to paypal he would have to provide proof of postage, which he should have with an item that size and cost.

It's the first time i've ever had a problem with anyone on ebay. just my luck it had to be this item. well its al in the hands of paypal now.

there is only 2 shots in the whole movie that you see blue lights on the bridge. one is the side shot of the Avenger bridge as it collides with the other stardestroyer and the other is again the side shot, but this time the Executor, at the end when they are chasing the falcon . there are no other bridge shots of the Executor where you see it with Blue lights. actually both times it is the same matte but flipped so i wanted to change it somewhat so the two bridges have some difference, even if the flashing sequence is different in both shots.

I seriously think you need to see a therapist though Angel about your blue addiction. i wonder if you would have even mentioned the deleted lights if they were a different colour.  :)

Hey Ady - i mentioned this before, but did you ever look into the magazine series that is out that includes a small but detaled model with each edition 'The Official Starships & Vehicles collection'. These model are probably not ideal for some shots (close-ups), but will be good to use for others and allows you a cheap and cheerful way to get various models used in the movies

yeh, i saw those at our local newsagents last year. i didn't bother getting them though but i see the models are popping up on ebay all the time.

Speaking of models, and this may fall into the category of "killing a fly with a sledgehammer", but at a sci-fi model convention I went to over the weekend, there's a guy who just started producing a studio scale (or maybe larger) Twin Pod Cloud Car.  Thing's gotta be about 24w x 18d.  It would be perfect for creating whatever cloud car shots you wanted to straighten out the various Cloud City flyovers.  Down side - $400...PLUS shipping.

yeh, that would be a bit of overkill for me to buy one of those for one or two brief shots.

So, no one else noticed the bad compositing/outlines of Lando, Leia and Chewie on the balcony? I'm sure it's ILM's fault and not Ady's, but is there any way to fix it? It sticks out.

these are all problems with the original elements. there isn't much i can do without having all the separate elements and re-composite them i'm afraid.

But it it possible to just slightly tone down the blurriness, especially around C-3PO? I mean, you did add the blur, right?

it isn't blur, it's feathering. the feathering is set to 1 which is its lowest setting. the main problem is that ILM did a piss poor rotoscoping of the original elements and without having the OUT in HD theres nothing i can do to fix this. Plus it will look a bit more blurry in the trailer because it isn't the final render. i was changing the sky while i was doing the trailer and i didn't get everything finished in time ( same with the bridge shot at the end) so i can guarantee you it doesn't look blurry in the final render

ady, a couple questions for ya:

1) how exactly did the added TIE fighter lasers cause problems in the asteroid chase sequence?

2) where'd you get the 2 "yes's" from for the Emperor's new dialogue?  Sounds great.

1 ) i can't really put my finger on it but the TIEs firing just seemed out of place and a little too chaotic. I think in an asteroid field the TIE pilots would be concentrating more on avoiding the asteroids than checking their targeting display. the TIEs only seem to start firing when they are close to the large asteroids surface and i think this works better. so the lasers are definitely gone.

2) its actually the same "yes" i just did some tweaking to it to get it to sound different

fishmanlee said:

The "Electric TIE fighter" scene? i agree it should no MUST be kept

where did this come from? i have never said i will be getting rid of that shot at all.

There is one addition in the trailer that I find a little bit silly, though. That is that the Echo Base gun turret shoots after the Snowspeeders after they have passed it.

  • The gun turret fires very close to where you would extrapolate the snowspeeders to fly.
  • The snowspeeders have yet some time to reach the AT-AT walkers. So, the AT-AT's would still be quite far from the gun turret. Right?

why is it silly? the speeders are right by the trench as you can see in the next shot and the turrets by the trenches are firing so why not the first one? it would be sillier to be just sitting there doing nothing when the rebels are deep in battle.

vaderios said:

Ok:

Something that is interesting.

I was looking the mattes and the live action sets and they have some differences.

I tried to match as match i could with both ways to make the thing work.

the mates have already been fixed so the bridge matches in all shots. i updated the screenshots on the first page earlier today so you can see what's been done.

I noticed that you have done something similar to my matte Angel in the sections where the officers are standing. one thing though. The top section of the alcove you added is slightly wrong. it is too wide at the top which has changed the shape of the outer edge of the alcove. it should follow the line of the original as you can see here:

Just for clarification, the shot vaderios showed of the 'Bridge' is from the 'fleet massing' near the beginning of the movie, whereas Adywan's shot that is shown is from the end of the movie.  And Adywan has deliberately 'flipped' it.

Which i dont understand...

I mean im with ady to flip the officers, but why the whole bridge?

he is going to flip it again at the beggining?

-Angel

yes mine is from the end of the movie. At the time i posted the original screengrab the mattes were just work in progress just so i can work out all the continuity of the scene. it was flipped because Piette changes sides throughout the final scene but i needed to go through every shot of the bridge to work out what the matte should finally look like and to enable the matte to be flipped without looking like it is. the bridge will be correct throughout the movie.

vaderios said:

Thx  Impfighter you reminded me an idea i had.

As i see in Ady's video he added a camera shake when the SDs are colliding..

But!

It supposed to be shaking in the bridge not the outside.

So with a bit work can keep the SD in the outside intact.

I  ve made this test:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ujxT0bnSe8

Dont judge the shaking, i just put it to show my idea ;)

-Angel

I'm keeping the camera shake as it is. the one thing that always looks fake, even though it would be scientifically correct, is when anything outside a window doesn't shake along with the foreground. Its something to do with how our brain perseeves the motion.

check again because there is nothing wrong with them.

Few points i feel i must bring up is that the Hoth battle, the ATATs at the back look a little too fake, mostly due to lighting, i mean the front ones shadows are a light grey whereas the ones at the back are very dark.

actually the rear AT-AT's are the same as the front ones only timed different so they don't look the same. They have been brightened and have a black level of 16 instead of 0 like the front ones so the shadows on the rear ones are indeed lighter. Guess it must be an optical illusion or video set-up that's making them look darker to you.

I d love to keep the lasers that the TIES firing at MF at the asteroid chase( adds more color to the scene)

I was surprised at that too. Hope it makes it into the final cut, as I was really impressed with it.

sorry, but the lasers are gone for good. After i added them there was just something wrong with the sequence that i just couldn't put my finger on at first. it was the lasers. i tried removing them just from the shot where the TIE blows up but that didn't work so they had to go.

luke's lightsaber still seems to be transparent as i can still see vader's lightsaber in it.

not sure what you mean by the first thing because none of the sabers are transparent

I would ask that if you decide to remix the music... when you go to do that... maybe pen me a quick letter... there's a lot I can tell you about where to go to get what...and for what reasons. The SE will be your undoing if you simply cut and paste it into the film as it's horribly wrong.

i'll certainly be giving you a shout when i get to the audio side of things.

but there is one thing that stands out to me & unfortunatly it is something that I do not think that can be fixed

the glow of the sabers should be visible in his eyes

actually you wouldn't see the glow at all. the most you would see is a point of light. i may add the point of light but only if i can do it convincingly.

My question for Ady is how is he going to do officers pit part without it looking repeated? I see it's using the part from where Needa and the other guy are on the bridge when the falcon flies so close to the bridge. All those officers are posed the same way as in the earlier shot, so how is he going to stop it from looking like reused shot?

The star Wars films have many reused shots in it. In ANH there is the shot of Tarkin reused before the DS explodes, ESB its Leia on the command centre to name just 2.

Now the layout of the pits on the executor changes in ESB. Look at the shot at the end f the movie when Piette orders the officer to "ready the tractor beam". its actually the avenger bridge pit. no one seems to have been bothered by this before so i'm not too bothered about it now. And in ROTJ the bridge is completely different again.

In fact... The buildings have the correct perpespective but it should have a blue shadow tint because of the sky reflection :)

you really do have a blue fetish don't you Angel. are you sure you didn't do the recolouring for the 2004 DVD's? lol

i'm not sure why the new fad is that everything outdoors in daylight has to have a blue tint to the shadowing. its a recent misconception and seems to be a rule with many CG & photoshop artists, which is one reason that a lot of CG looks fake. different lighting conditions & atmospherics are what affects the environment, the clouds in the new matte have a yellow tint because of the time of day so the buildings would also be affected by this.

Curiously Ady, why did you move Obi-Wan's head closer to the center?

well this was down to the new background. because i had made Obi-Wan more transparent, like he is in ROTJ, the background had an unwanted effect on Obi-Wan's face in his original position so moving him more to the centre showed off the transparency better without making his face look weird.

nice posters by the way savage and fredstar

in the asteriod chase the tie fighter on the far rigth, below the other 3 seems to jerk a bit.

just one bad for me

Also there is an FX glitch in the laser firing when the ties are hunting the MF in the new Star destroyer shot. ( when the up right TIE shoots near the end the laser isnt moving properly and overlap the tie itself. Its not ady's fault)

Ady, are you going to be working on the edges of the rebel ships in the hoth battle? They've got shadows around them.

Sluggo said:

Ady, could you look at the 'levatating' boxes and rocks on Dagobah?  Most of the time, the effect works pretty well, but sometimes it seems more like props on string in some shots.

Also, the trick the stage hands used to lift R2 looks bad.  It just looks like he is being lifted up by a platform on a jack.  I guess I think it ought to look like everything is floating on a space station, just bobbing up and down and not so static.

So, no one else noticed the bad compositing/outlines of Lando, Leia and Chewie on the balcony? I'm sure it's ILM's fault and not Ady's, but is there any way to fix it? It sticks out.

these are all problems with the original elements. there isn't much i can do without having all the separate elements and re-composite them i'm afraid.as for vaders saber at least its not as thick as it is on the GOUT. my god that saber is like the ROTJ ones.

i've added annotations to the trailer in my youtube account so you can see what's changed while watching the video

Now Adys posted the trailer, its going to be quieter around here now hes making his props, so let him focus on the frustration of that insted of nit picking every frame of Empire that may add to his workload at the moment.

yes, now the trailer is done the video work has stopped. i'm now concentrating on the models and sets. i'm not too happy with the guy i purchased the Millennium Falcon model off ebay as i still haven't received the model. his first excuse was that he had been in hospital and was sending it out last Wednesday but after that he has stopped replying to my emails so i have had to raise a dispute. how the hell can it take so long for a model to get to me when its in the UK but others i have ordered since this one from around the world got to me in no time at all. not a happy chappy at the moment

One change I didn't get was removing the Ronto from the tail end of "Not the droids you're looking for." exchange scene. All the dialogue was done with, & it it was perfect the way the Stormtrooper stepped back to reveal the Ronto coming around the corner of the buildings. I understand why the probe droid was removed from the background during the exchange though.

this was discussed in this thread when i was working on this scene. the Ronto is not coming around the building at all. It is just stationary and appears from nowhere so stuck out like a sore thumb.

ok before this grain thing gets out of hand i better pop in and reply.

the grain IS added to the sample clips on the mattes but the grain animation is deliberately disabled so becomes static. the reason for this is because they are just that... sample clips. Enabling the grain animation filter increases rendering times drastically and it just isn't worth all the extra time needed for a sample especially when i will probably be tweaking the shot and rendering it several more times before i am happy with it. the clip at the end of the trailer has been slowed down by over 50% just for the trailer so the grain will look unnatural. but when you say that the final trailer shot background replacement looks distracting it would be interesting if you could post a screenshot and outline the matte that you think looks distracting.

and janskeet, please at least bother to read whats already been discussed in this thread (and the ANH:R thread too for that matter) because its becoming a bit annoying when you keep asking questions that have already been discussed in length and fully answered already. you have been a member here for almost a year now so can't use the newbie excuse. if you can't be bothered to do that then please don't be surprised when people can't be bothered to answer your questions
