STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

if it wasn't for the fact that there was an invoice inside the package i would have said that the PO had done this deliberately and ordered this little model to take the piss because i been pestering them so much about my fine molds one. funny thing though you could clearly see "M. falcon kit" written on the package so i wouldn't put it past them if they had deliberately opened it and did try to take the piss but i wouldn't be able to prove anything. Well from now on i'm going to call them the Post Office Organization or POO for short. lol

Just to be clear Ady, looking at the invoice, it wasn't the same seller that you purchased from, was it? If it was, it would be pretty obvious what had happened - your seller has sent your package to the other guy, and the other guy's package (addressed to you by accident) went "missing" and had the address torn off it.

In the case that it IS the same seller, his proof of posting he provided to paypal should be proof enough that he sent the wrong item - it will have a completely incorrect weight/shipping cost.

Not sure if you can file an 'item not as described' claim after having already made an 'item not received claim' though.

Sorry for all these edits to my post. It probably isn't the same seller anyway, making my whole post pointless :P

If it is the same seller though, there's two magic words I have for you.

TRADING STANDARDS!

no it wasn't the same seller. this was from a shop, actually shrewsburys model shop, so how it could have gotten so damaged definitely was't due to any transit.

Ady, how do you know those other people didn't get your Falcon? They could have just gotten a $200 model for $6 for all you know!

well i'd say it was highly doubtful. the thing is on the invoice it had June 1st as shipment date so they probably don't even know its been lost. you should have seen the state of its packaging. there is no way it had accidentally got that way. It looked more like it was deliberately opened. After seeing so many news reports of packages going missing and that postal workers were stealing packages all the time or just dumping mail i'm not surprised anymore when something like this happens. now here's the latest. a postal representative rang me a few minutes ago about my compensation claim. he mentioned that i had gone in and claimed the model so they will be closing the claim now. Well i told him that he would have to prove that i accepted it. i asked him if i had would i have had to sign for it and he told me yes. well i then told him that i did not accept it because it wasn't my model and that i signed for nothing and that the package was reposted to the correct person with a note explaining how they were willing to hand over their item to someone else because they refused to resend it and if they want to make a claim against the post office i would be willing to testify against the PO. he then said that they would have CCTC footage of me picking up the item and tried to make out that this would eb evidence enough to protect them. Well that's bullshit. i wasn't stupid anyway. i took the model out of the package, kept the model and the invoice and handed back the ripped package . the model was small enough to fit in my inside pocket out of view of the camera, so to them it looks like i handed the package back and walked out. i didn't sign anything. so screw you PO. lol. needless to say he wasn't too happy on the phone.

Oh and Ady, don't try and assemble the Falcon when you're this angry, or it might end up in even more pieces :p

no, i won't be assembling it just yet. i still need to work out the internal lighting rig and where to put the battery access point.

Ady instead of a clip of the edit every thursday how bout a shot of the model build? I would love to see this thing being worked on

& for the record I insure EVERYTHING I post, you think royal mail is bad you should try "An post" here in Ireland Sheeesh!!

just be glad Britain has a decent health service!!!!

the weekly screenshots were only as a lead-up to the trailer. there will be no more clips or screenshots posted until after the movie is finished and released. there will be some pics of the models and sets posted though but those are a long way off yet, and also the video blog may be happening too.

well the Post Office can, as Bender would say "kiss my shiny metal ass". Are they completely run by morons? Can you tell i'm a bit pissed off? lol

Went all the way into town to the sorting office and then stood around for about 10 minutes waiting for someone to come to bloody reception. gave them the card to collect the model and waited for them to bring it. You will not believe what they tried to palm me off with. I was expecting the guy to come back with a huge box but instead came back with this half shredded tiny package. i asked him if they were taking the piss and he said that, according to what he had written down, that this was the Millennium falcon model they had found but had not been delivered because the package was damaged and the address label had come off. When i tried to explain to the moron that the model that they had lost was huge he tried to tell me that i must have been mistaken and to at least take a look to see if it was my model. Now this is just how badly run by complete idiots the Post Office has become. i removed what was left of the packaging and inside was indeed the Millennium falcon....... the bloody Revell easykit pocket model. Bloody £6 worth of model. and guess what, inside there was an invoice with the address of the real recipient who, according to the invoice, lived in Buckinghamshire. the guy just laughed at me and said i might as well take it because they won't repackage it and deliver it because it doesn't have an address label or stamp left on it and that at least i would now have a model. i almost jumped over that desk and planted him one right on the jaw. not only won't i be getting the original model i paid for due to the post office but the person who ordered the pocket model also won't be getting there's because of the mishandling of Post Office staff. How hard is it for them to relabel and sent them this item. Oh yes, i took the model and refused to sign for it so they can't say i now have my model and refuse to pay me any compensation. took it into town, stuck it in a jiffy bag and relabelled it and paid the £1 postage so at least this person won't be screwed over by the PO.

as you can guess i really need to try and calm down now. lol

The Japanese LD has usually been expensive to get. The early 80's LD is easily one of the worst rotters in the history of the format.

I have all the Japanese making of LD's except this one. All those releases have Japanese subtitles.

The last VHS release was a cereal mail-away promo that inexplicably replaced William Conrad's original narration! (This has the Vader face art.) The original came out very early in the days of home video, and finding a playable copy would be a crap shoot.

It this film print isn't pink city, it would be interesting to make a hybrid version with all the movie clips in proper widescreen. :)

i'm in the process of remaking the "making of.." rips in my spare time ( not that there's much of that at the moment). they're going to be re-framed to widescreen and all the movie clips form SW & other films will be taken from better quality versions. I didn't know there was a version of TMOSW that had a different narration to William Conrads through. That would be a great little bonus if someone could rip the audio of the alternate narration.

Bare in mind that this is still just a test shot and Adywan may decide to take another route with this, but here's what I've come up with to show a sample of what might be possible in helping with this scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wseA4UHgS8Y

The AT-AT model is one I downloaded from Sci-Fi:3D just to help add a focal point to this shot, the scale of the walkers is probably out, but you get the idea, also it isn't walking, they're having a rest after a busy day of shooting rebels !

Awesome! Yes! You can do this in 720p, right?

Looks really cool! Only thing that comes to mind is that the mountains in the background are moving too fast. In the original shot it's the ground moving, not both. If the mountains move, they appear smaller and closer.

This is still just a test shot to show that it's possible to use CG for this shot, I'd assume if Ady wants to progress down this route then he'd supply or have more specific ideas about the bckground mountain range etc...

this all looks amazing. would it be possible to PM me your email address please Serji-X Arrogantus so i can chat with you about the CG footage? It will be easier going through emails because my PM inbox here just keeps filling up.

sorry, but the trailer is the last taste of ESB:R you'll be getting until the movie is released. i've shown too much already

Another suggestion:

nothing big, but how would putting an "aurora borealis" in some of the Hoth night shots be (say maybe - maybe- when we see Han trying to set up the tent after putting Luke in the Taun-Taun)?

it wouldn't fit. the rescue happens during a blizzard and visibility is low so you wouldn't be able to see anything like that. I think it would look out of place on hoth too anyway.

by the way how is the model work coming

very slowly i'm afraid. Funds dired up and i still ahve some materials to get. styrene, resin etc , but this will all ahve to wait until the end of next month. i know its all going to be a lot of work and will delay the release of ESB:R but i think its all worth it

that would be perfect. A little faster and with motion blur i would have points for tracking to add the AT-AT's. I'll PM you later. :)

The scene where it cuts from that alien radioing the troopers, to luke and ben approaching the falcon used a fade instead of a straight cut. I felt that a straight cut worked better.

The fade was always there until the SE. I never liked the straight cut which is why i restored the original fade

In regards to the camera moving all over the place, you have stable cockpit shots you could use for the cockpit element. Rather than keep the original shot or any part of it (such as blue-screening the mock-up background onto the original shot) maybe you could do one of 2 options:

(1) take an earlier cockpit scene (Luke's strafe of the first AT-AT or inside Zev's cockpit during the search) where the camera is stable; delete the external image and replace with the new background. Afterwards, any sort of camera shakes could be added to recreate the original shot.

(2) take the new mock-up shot but excise the cockpit. There were shots from inside Zev's cockpit when he was searching for Han and Luke where all we saw was the terrain. You could in essense put the camera right outside the cockpit window so the only element to mess with would be the outside image... as well as add the shaking and other elements afterwards...

Yeah it can work. No need to track the footage. Just create a plate and imitate the movement.

-Angel

no it can't work. you can't just create a plate & imitate the movement because you need long enough footage of fast moving ground for this to be able to work. There isn't any shots in ESB what i could use because of all the other elements in the shots. I can't use the snowspeeder search because the speeder is flying over the mountains so the ground isn't flat like the AT-AT battle so a total mismatch. the only way to do this would be to find a movie that has a long enough flyover of flat snow covered ground.

Hey Vaderios, one suggestion - can you post your before and after pics top-to-bottom instead of left-to-right? Less side scrolling.

Lets see if it works that way :)

i know Ady have rerotoscoped all the lasers but this pic belongs to the lame pic of the week.

Also i find why the shadows dont look realistic on the rocks... they dont have motion blur!

Also ady, im wondering if you going to fix/replace some bad elements..

Like there for example:

The snow speeders in the background are so dark and going so slow. any chance to see them in the real speed?

Also when the flashes appears in the cockpit shots they create some bad bluescreen elements.

-Angel (24 days left )

yes, all these things are being fixed.

sans_fi said:

First an idea, i know this has to do with Return of the Jedi, but also with Empire Strikes Back, and is easier to change in Empire.

This shot was added for the special edition and appears on Empire when Lando is warning the city to evacuate, and in Jedi at the ending celebration. Since in Return of the Jedi it is a pan shot, with crowd cheering, i guess its easier to change it (or substitute it) on ESB (Or tweak it in some way on ROTJ, like changing the sky, i dont know)

i will be changing it in ROTJ:R but only the sky and some foreground elements. Its just pure laziness that they had both shots during sunset. ROTJ:R will be more daylight.

Monroville said:

Maybe you could just replace the mountains and/or the AT-ATs, since those would be relatively more stationary than the ground itself. Even if you didn't "replace" the AT-ATs with new model shots (or from different scenes) could the images of the AT-ATs themselves be worked a bit to appear less faded?

this is what's impossible about it. There are no definite points to track to add anything to the background. the camera is moving all over the place .the only way to fix these shots would be for all outside cockpit elements to be brand new. i would need a lot more space than i have available to create a new snow floor to film.

brash_stryker said:

I've previously only posted on the Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread (there's a mouthful) as I've been confident that anything Adywan does with the OT will be for the better, but I feel compelled to post here just to tell you that this project is looking excellent! I wish I could contribute in some way in terms of ideas, but it would be quite superfluous. Empire is in capable hands indeed.

Also, Ady. In regards to your Falcon model kit going missing (glad to hear you've had a replacement by the way), and Paypal finding in favour of the seller, I've always been under the impression that Paypal seller protection requires that the seller provide not just proof that the item has been posted, but that delivery also be confirmed (via the item being signed for).

If this is true, and Paypal have made an unjustified decision in closing your claim (as they OFTEN do - I deal with them a lot), you may be able to claim the money back. Contact trading standards.

EDIT:

https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/Marketing/securitycenter/sell/SellerPPOverview-outside

Copied from Paypal's seller protection policy:

"4. For items with a value of £150 or more, you need to provide proof of signature from the recipient if the buyer claims that the item did not arrive."

They can't argue with that. From my experience, Paypal are the most unscrupulous company I've ever dealt with, and they probably found it in the seller's favour on the offchance that you wouldn't contest it. Contact trading standards.

Hey Ady. If you get your money back thanks to me, can I be in your credits as 'Financial Advisor'? Haha jk! Please don't click ignore :P

thanks for the advise. The thing is that thanks to our postal system the seller was 100% covered with what he did. You can request a signature upon delivery without having to pay for the insurance. now because the post office have lost it Paypal (and any other company for that matter) and it wasn't insured the most they will offer is £30. the seller is covered along with paypal. you see , the thing with that Paypal clause you posted , is that this only covers when a buyer claims that he hasn't received an item but the seller is saying that he sent it and he has proof that the buyer has received it. I spoke to my brothers friend who is a solicitor this weekend and he has had a look over it and he has said that it is indeed the post office that are liable and paypal don't have to cover anything in this case. If he had paid for the insurance then i would get all the money back, but he didn't so i'm screwed.

vaderios said:

Are we still bothering with the executor idea?..

Anyways i ve made a gif to show how the scene can be more interesting.

Imagine it slower and with ties. Ady can do it better than me ;)

I also think a focal distance game with the camera focus on ties and blur the close rocks.

Plus i could have add more layer rocks to give more depth, but just to get the idea

Also the painting over the rocks seem to be a bit wrong in some places. Like here f.e.

The light is reflected to the wrong rocks

-Angel

i'm going to be building a new set for that shot because you can tell its a painting and it doesn't match the miniature set. i will be enhancing the bomb blasts but i haven't decided what route i'm going to go down yet.

corellian77, I hadn't seen that interesting top shot of production art before. Nice one.

Adywan, while I'd seen the 'prototype' miniature shots over the years, I'd also never seen the actual 'Falcon/Tantive lV' miniature shot you showed in your last post. It's always neat to see rare behind-the-scenes photos of the Original Trilogy filming miniatures.

It was especially neat to clearly see where exactly it's retractable 'landing struts' were situated.

i scanned it from a great book i got from Birmingham last week for £2. It was a Star Wars special of Sci-fi & fantasy modeller. It has some great BTS pics of the ships in many stages of production. many of the pics i have never seen before including a Red Squadron Y-Wing.

I was wondering after seeing your change of the Vectored graphic of the Death Star plans. Are you going to add graphic inserts on those glass panels that everyone is looking through in the control room?

Another is adding glow effects on the AT-AT's armor after the ground turrets fire on them and have them last a few seconds or show damage.

I don't know how difficult that would be or do think it would make them too busy and distracting, because I understand (ironically from the SG1 dvd's) that less is more and you don't want to go overboard. Adding too much and making it too difficult to concentrate on the scene.

Oh and you use the DVD's and not the 720P versions that are about the net right or do you uprate them?

there will be some subtle additions to the glass panels in the Hoth control room. I don't think they needed the additions in ANH:R because the yaving control room seemed a lot more low tech than the Hoth one.

i don't think that the AT-AT's need any form of glow added when the lasers hit. The armour is very strong and a glow would indicate that the armour is hot, which would be a weakness. The blast marks that are left is all that needs to be there.

i used the DVD for ANH:R because the HD versions weren't available back then. For the rest of the saga i am using the German HDTV 1080p versions, downscaling to 720p. Even downscaled to DVD res there is still more detail than in the official DVD's

ady would you consider chopping the ships out of those pics & have them flying about in the background (escaping Bespin, or in the reble fleet etc) ?

i'm building a few small ships to add to the end rebel fleet to replace many of the ships, especially the cut & paste ones in the last shot.

vaderios said:

Ady:

Sure you are going to do something for that :D

I hope always with some more modern panels for the snow speeders.

Also i dont know if you noticed some jerky dusty edges in some particular scenes like this.

The most safe way to eliminate them is to zoom a bit...

-Angel

unfortunately i won't be able to do anything like that for the exterior in those top shots. The ground is moving very fast and i would have to build a very long set to replace it in order to have new AT-At's . but the displays will be having a tweak.

as for the feathery edges, this appears on many movies but the overscan on TV's eliminates this. yes, you will see it on a HDTV that does 1:1 pixel mapping but this doesn't bother me.

vaderios said:

Speaking of destruction, im wondering if a little brainstorm about what destruction the bombers can do.

See it as a test.

I always wanted to see something like when the asteroid hits paris in armagedon here. Not something apocalyptic just the style.

From the other hand we can have some broken stones/debris combined with some molten ones in an electrified explosion.

Anyways the compositing is pretty weak in these shots(you can see bad transparency problems with tie fighters)

Assuming Ady will make the canyon at the end he can explode it to film that scene :)

Watch the C4 flyboys

-Angel

now this is something that i did think long and hard about and i think they got it right just as it is. I don't see the bombs as being destructive at all. Why, if they want to capture the falcon, would they use destructive weapons that would possibly cause all sorts of internal damage to the inside of the asteroid and possibly destroy the falcon in the process. I believe that they are just very low yield bombs, maybe just flash bombs, that are only meant to draw the falcon out. more of an audible attack.

Only two little things.

1) I understand why you made the DSI construction world blue so as not to confuse it with Tatooine. But it looks too much like Alderaan, it would have looked better Geonosis like or Mustafar like world.

2) I never liked how the DS weapon destroyed Alderaan, it was too fast and felt fake. I always wanted it more in the vein of Kilrath in WC3.

1. no i didn't make the world blue so as not to confuse it with tatooine. It was done to mirror Endor. the Death Star is being constructed above a world where there is plenty of materials needed. I really can't see why people say its too much like Alderaan when its a different colour and also why they never complain about yavin IV being so similar to Alderaan.

2. the planet is supposed to be destroyed in an instant. I made a deleted scene where the planets destructions is extended and it really lost the impact of that explosion. Its all there in Obi-Wan's lines just after the explosion so extending it in any way makes his speech redundant. "suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced". it had to be instantaneous. sometimes less is more.
