Wookie Groomer's 1080p Star Wars Saga project (Released)

Why would anyone go through the hassle of doing another bluray set???? I just did that all that work!! WTF

I'm pretty sure that DVD-BOY's blu-ray set will be BD-25 whereas yours are BD-50's. For many BD-50's are just too expensive and as the highest quality HDTV rips available are only 17GB there will be no difference in quality if they are on a BD-50 or a BD-25

That's what I mean.  Add it in as if it blew out of his hand and it's mixed in with the debris that's blowing out the window.

Right: after Luke gets blown out the window, he grabs onto this bridge/catwalk-- his lightsaber is still no where to be found.

Next scene, he has it again.

=/

take a look more closely and you can see that his lightsaber is on the ledge, so he does lose it .

The Phantom Menace -Theatrical Version - NTSC DVD- ADYWAN - NOW AVAILABLE
Time

Sorry about the lack of updates. My laserdisc player has decided to refuse to play any discs now. It just spits them out, so capturing side 2 is on hold. But i'm going to be able to borrow a player that has RF output as soon as the person returns back from holiday, towards the end of next week, maybe sooner. So it shouldn't be to long before i have the new audio track for you all.

Ah Nice! the buttons are fixed :D.

A question: Did you replace the snowspeeder search scene's background mountains with some that have continuity? ( they change all the time from snowing to rock) if not all a part of them.

-Angel

Without hiring a helicopter and filming some new background plates, changing these shots isn't possible. But after looking at that scene there isn't much of a problem with it. There is probably only 2-3 shots that don't match up perfectly, so not a big deal to me really

-Angel

It's a secret. ;)

A quick update:

I've managed to fix a few of the transparent snowspeeder cockpits. A few are impossible to fix but the main ones, like the speeder flying underneath the walker and the final cockpit shot of the snowspeeder search are done. I've also fixed the continuity problems with Lukes flight suit chest plate during the Hoth battle that keeps changing colour when they should be blue. Plus when Luke crashes you see the blue buttons as he tries to open the cockpit then the next shots the blue buttons have gone and one pale button replaces them (you can also see where the one button has fallen off)

Yeah the dude who made that is awesome - his Battle of Endor (space battle) is also amazing, as is his other work.

need to get a hold of this guy and see if he can lend us a hand in jedi revisited.

He is already working with me on ESB:R :)

Are you kidding thats one of his best lines in the entire trilogy it is just dripping with sarcasm

No, I’m not kidding, but I don’t expect everyone to agree with me.

I don’t agree that it’s one of Han’s best lines.  He has a lot of lines that are funnier or cooler.

I don’t think Han pointing out the irony makes the irony any funnier.  It can speak for itself.  Greedo says “I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time” and then gets blasted.  With the “I bet you have” line, it kind of feels like the director was afraid you’d miss the humorous irony if it weren’t mentioned out loud.

Most importantly, I don’t believe Han would say that line.  This isn’t some silly game.  He’s sitting across the table from a killer who is pointing a blaster at him and may shoot at any moment.  According to GL, Greedo waited for Han to say “Yes, I bet you have” and then shot (and missed from point blank), but Han can’t count on that.  He’s going to take Greedo out, not waste time on that pointless crack.  I see two ways the scene could reasonably play out:

GREEDO: I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time.

[BLAM!]

[GREEDO falls over, dead.]

Or:
GREEDO: I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time.

HAN: Yes, I bet you——

[BLAM!]

[HAN falls over, dead.]

Why would Han risk Scenario #2 when he can have Scenario #1?

That line is exactly something that Han would say. Don't forget that when we first meet Han he's very arrogant and cocky. It's all part of his character. It's not just stuck in there to be funny or cool. It' just Han being Han

Puggo GRANDE - 16mm restoration (Released)
Time

Puggo, i would just like to say a huge thanks for this. Watched this last night and it brought back a lot of memories for me. The first time my daughters got to see Star Wars on the big(ish) screen was at our old local mini arts cinema in 1993. They were showing a 16mm print of '77 Star Wars so i just had to go and see it. It only seated 30 people but luckily i knew the guy who owned the print so i got some free tickets. I can remember about half way through the film the sound going and then the reel broke so we had to wait about 20 minutes for them to sort it out but this didn't spoil our enjoyment.Even though my eldest daughter had watched Star Wars on VHS almost every day since she was about 6 months old ( Born in 1987 and the only thing that would stop her crying in an instant was hearing the Fox fanfare followed by the Main Star Wars theme and she was mesmerised until the final credits finished) she loved every minute of that night.

So thank you again for all your hard work on this project and bringing that little piece of my past back to me :)

I was trying to explain that the PS3 and 360 are absolutely brilliant in their video playback and streaming abilities, far from half-assed. In fact, the only thing I can think of that keeps these machines (especially the PS3) from being ideal media players is their lack in ability to record.

The PS3 can record. The PLAYTV USB add on turns the PS3 into a digital tv receiver and PVR.

- How come the sound quality vary so much?
I know that you (Adywan) used several bits of audio from other sources. But has anyone noted exactly how vayring the dialogue is? Try listening in at the scenes shot in the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon. There major differences to the room sound from dialogue to dialogue. I suppose its on-set audio vs. ADR.  I'm just wondering if this contributed to a lesser mix of one source or if this is present on all versions of ANH.

You can blame Ben Burtt for this. The 5.1 mix on the DVD's screwed up the dialogue track. Just listen to the DVD 5.1 audio and you'll see what i men. It was as if he used several sources for the dialogue. I was actually able to improve this a bit though. Just check the scene with Tarkin as they are about to destroy Alderaan, especially the part where Tarkin says "then name the system". The official DVD's sound quality changes dramatically and i was able to smooth that out a bit. But the problem was that trying to fix the dialogue caused problems with other sound FX on the centre channel so it was impossible for the most part. I did try using the laserdisc SE  5.1 track for the dialogue but there are differences in the two mixes which didn't gel together very well.

-  Why use our system of numbers in the movie when all lettering have been replaced with aurabesh?

It's just a consideration that so much time goes in to converting all references to english writting and replacing it with aurabesh (which is extremely effectfull) but when we get to the Death Star coming in on Yavin there is a, sorry to say it, generic timer counting down? This is by the way the only thing I reacted to. Sure I wish there'd been even more ships in the Death Star battle but I can fully understand how heavy such a effect sequence might be.

Sometimes we need a visual reference that we recognise  to enhance the dramatic element of a scene. Changing the number system to Aurabesh for the countdown clock just didn't work. You need that "our world" visual reference for the clock. I did try changing the numbering to Aurabesh but, when watching it back, it lost something. This is the problem with some SCI-FI in that they change everything to look other worldly and it fails. Any lettering wasn't the focus in a scene but the numbering was and this needed to stay recognisable

Star Wars Prequels/Original Trilogy: The Complete Scores (Released)

Adrian,

I've encountered many dealers selling copies of ANH:R at Collectors Fairs, Memorabiliaat the NEC,  Collectormania and even at one stall at a Car Boot at Birmingham Wholesale markey on a Sunday morning. There are a few that turn up on Ebay and iOffer.com. It's something that can be questioned, but then again - Ebay don't question it. Star Wars is a big revenue to them - look at the Holiday Special DVD's all over it.

yeh i've seen this myself at Memorabilia at the NEC. Confronted one guy and got him thrown out. I'm off again to the NEC in November so i'll have to keep my eyes peeled. One thing i hate is people making money off other peoples hard work

One thing that annoys me is the constant lies from LFL about the ROTJ soundtrack that they can't release the missing music because the masters were lost. Well the masters may be lost but the music does exist. I was watching the HD versions of The Science of Star Wars the other day and they contain a 5.1 audio track. Now The dialogue and sound effects from all of the clips apart from TPM were clean and didn't contain the movie's music soundtrack and these were clips from the SE so not old press release clips. Also when the DVD's were created Ben Burtt created a new mix with the music a lot lower than it use to be. So obviously the score is still available in a clean mix form. So why don't they just use the movies mix to recreate the soundtrack?

Angel, the blade was correct in the original pic. you shouldn't see the tip of the lightsaber the angle it is at and the blade needs to be more centralised because of the motion blur that the saber hilt would have

I don't think the innards of the arm need anything done to them. It's the arm itself that needs fixing so it no longer looks like a horrible latex falsie

But even with pics, you seem to be mistaken. The building behind Vader is visible out of the window in the second shot because the camera is looking out to the left, whereas in the first shot it's straight on and the building would be off to the left. So that's not a mistake.

And the first two pics of the entrance to the room, are they even looking at the same thing?

I'll grant your first point, it might be a POV thing, just seemed odd to me to have nothing and then something.

But the first two are of whatever is behind Lando, Han and company in front of the Vader dining room, the first one is right before Lando opens the door, the second a few seconds later, there's now a stairway behind Han and company! Lando's in both shots, and he's not moved except to open the door.

Ah, do you mean the window that was added for the SE but they forgot to add it for the rest of the shots? If that's the case then just ask Bingowings. He's seen the fix in the making :)

Just to throw in one thing I didn't see mentioned about the galaxy shot (please forgive me if I missed it)... is there a reason they would be traveling intergalactically at that (or any) point in the story?  Presumably that's their galaxy (far, far away) and not some other galaxy, right?  I can't imagine there's a neighboring galaxy that close, or we would have seen it in countless shots throughout the trilogy.  How long would it take a ship, at Star Wars speeds, to get that far outside the galaxy?  And what would be the point?

Again, sorry if this has been covered.  I try to read every post, but I'm trying to have a life as well. ;)

I like the idea that it is a forming star instead of galaxy. makes more sense to me.
