I got this information from someone who wanted to be in the credits for ESBR and he mentioned something about being asked not to help out.  I could be phrasing it wrong, I deleted all of my PMs once I could delete them more than one at a time. :-)

I can't find any evidence that its true on any of the 501st sites.  In fact, one of the only threads I can find is them asking if anyone wanted to shoot the Vader hologram for Ady!

Ha ha . you didn't break the record.

But in all serious, please don't try because the thread will just fall into chaos

Edit: I've just been told that the snowspeeder pilots uniform is slightly different than the X-Wing pilot's so it would need to be the snowspeeder uniform. The boots, gloves and jacket are different

Eh??  You've just been told???  Surely you knew this already?...Come on Adyman, you must have known this.....Everybody knows this!!!

;)

yes, of course i knew this. lol. what i meant was that i was told that it would be better for me to clarify that its an ESB pilots uniform, but i didn't at first because i thought it would be pretty obvious because it is for ESB:R and all the pilots, whether they be snowspeeder or X-wing pilots all have the same costume..

I know someone in the Rebel Legion. I'll ask him tonight if he knows anyone with an Xwing uniform.

That would be great, thanks. If they know a few people who have Hoth trooper costumes too then it would solve a couple of problems i'm having with 2 shots :)

And, yes, the pilot uniform is for the shot where Luke has destroyed the AT-AT. I need Luke getting up in the background and running off.

Edit: I've just been told that the snowspeeder pilots uniform is slightly different than the X-Wing pilot's so it would need to be the snowspeeder uniform. The boots, gloves and jacket are different

i can't believe no one is talking about the new cloud city matte

which i find to be the best shot so far though by the way ady? is this still an unfinished shotcause it looks a little bit unfinished.

maybe it's just me

No, that shot is finished. Don't forget you are seeing it at low resolution and without any motion. One thing that's always bugged me about the SE/DVD version is that the Falcon looks like its going to fly right over Cloud City instead of into it.

Your 'zoom-in' concept was neat vaderios, but I reckon the (now improved) existing shot establishes a better impact of the 'vast scale' of the vegetation that Luke has landed in, as you can still make out a clearer sense of the surrounding details in it.

Adywan has mentioned that he is planning on altering the 'angle' of the tiny X-Wing in the shot still, and it will be good to get some consistency with the live-action X-Wing in the shots that follow....since I used to always think that we were seeing the rear of the X-Wing in this shot due to it's wing 'angle', and thought that the 'front lights' seen on the 'prop' had been badly placed here....

It will be good to see this clarified either way.

I didnt care about the angle in this mockup Impfighter just to show a better concept of thin fog and better mood to the shot.

Besides the "details" you are referring are black forms like walls. Sorry but at least define shapes...

Im with ady like i said to add fog, but its not working like he put it IMO always.

I cant really think other shit to make that matte more interesting and mysterious and less revealing as well... trying to improve the black forms at the sametime...

That shot is still a work in progress anyway. There's still a hell of a lot to add to it. But you really need to see it in motion and in context with the following shots. The fog in your mock-up is just too dense. The way i am doing it is adding the mist layers which then will match the shots that follow.

The vocals in the LD 5.1 mix are not isolated completely to the center channel, they still have very substantial volume in the left and right channels, not just a mere echo. Is that how they did surround mixing back then, cause any movie I watch in surround sound today, there is either no vocals in the left and right, or at 'certain' moments in a movie, there are if they are extremely loud, or there is a huge echo.

Only EP4 suffers with some bleed through but i wouldn't say its substantial. If you're getting the vocals loud in the left & right channels then i would check your setup. None of the other episodes laserdisc 5.1 audio has any dialogue in any channels apart from the centre, unless in places where its meant to be.

Looking good so far.. still can't say I care for the extra Wampa footage.  I liked the glimpses of the Wampa as it is approaching per the original, as (at least for me) it added to the suspense that the Wampa was relatively far away and moving to Luke.  With the SE, the Wampa is right there almost eyeballing him, which makes you wonder why it takes so long to rush up on Luke much less where the wailing is coming from if his mouth is full.

And I know it's beating a dead horse (or Taun Taun?) but I can't believe NOTHING can be done with Han's TT, be it a fast eye blink or the eyes looking around a bit, as opposed to simply straight ahead with that dead puppet stare.  At the same time, I know it's easier said than done.  The comparisons 005 put up are still boggling my mind as to how you did 'em...

The wampa footage was only added to fill the gaps really. The shots will be nothing like that when its all finished. I want to keep it as close to the original pre-SE pacing and mystery as possible

The problem with the taun taun is the erratic movement. It is a nightmare to track to do anything with

Ok so I was watching the clip again....do my eyes deceive me? Are some of those last few shots trimmed a bit? Specifically the shot of Luke falling? If i'm right, it probably has to do with the new shots and getting it to sync with the music...?

Anyone care to put up a split screen video?  :D

No, none of the last few shots have been trimmed. I just removed the shot of the Wampa in pain.

Any plans on having the Tauntaun blink before Han's says "Then I'll see you in hell."

I did try to add a blink but it just didn't look right, so no

So no Tauntaun facial articulation at all in that shot.

no

This 'close-up' of an AT-AT firing was always one of my favourite shots from the battle scenes.

But there's a strange glitch on it's front right leg that's always spoiled it a little.  Here's the shot as it currently looks -

As it's something that I really hope Adywan will sort out, I asked doubleofive to do a couple of 'mock-ups' showing how it should look without the 'jaggedness' (many thanks 005), and his 2nd one below shows how even a 'basic' touch-up would improve this greatly.

And I don't know if Adywan can do anything about this too, but doubleofive noticed that there also seems to be some detailing missing from the inside of this leg.  If possible, this would be a neat addition, considering how closely we see it.

thats been fixed

try the link again. This shouldn't be happening because it was uploaded to my collectors account so everyone can download it. It might have been a glitch with rapidshare. I've just tried the link and everything works fine.

Edit: i tried it a second time and i got the premium members only message. it did say that rapidshare was busy and there were no free download slots available so i clicked on the linkto the video that was on that page and it let me download it then. Hope that helps

Well, I am not one to go on endlessly about a topic, but I'm not talking about reflections, or light or whatever. Simply that ice is blue.

Actually I believe the blue would be even more pronounced in a cave. Look up ice cave on google images to see tons of blue caves. ;)

Actually a lot of this depends on who is taking the photograph. Was the white balance set before taking the picture or was the camera set to automatic white balance?.  Look at these examples of ice caves:

Just a hint of blue where the white balance looks to be set correctly. Now look at these:

Looks like whoever did the colour correction for the 2004 set was using pictures like these as reference. lol

Hopefully this video will help settle things and you can see just how different the colouring looks on the video compared to the screenshots. (and no, you don't get to see the new wampa. lol)

The ice cave looks a little bleached out for my eyes, it's nice to have the snow no longer purple or blue but some of the darkness of the cave seems to be lost.

Look at the sides of the cave entrance for example.

This is rough because the images don't exactly match (so ignore the legs and the saber obviously) but I tried over laying some of the lower contrast/higher detail information of the GOUT version over the ESB: R version.

It's darker but you get some of the detail back :

Ice Cave mockup

Don't trust the colours of a pic posted on facebook. many times the colour has been changed of pics i have uploaded there. Not sure why it does it because it doesn't do it to them all but here is a true snapshot

even here the image looks a little brighter than it does on the actual video

Memorex Dl are pretty crap really. I used them a while ago and out of a box of 25 not a single 1 burned without errors.

When burning make sure you burn the discs on the lowest possible speed. higher speeds can cause errors on a lot of DL media.

i use Verbatim made in singapore and even burning on the highest speed i get perfect burns every time. Verbatim made in india are lower quality though and you do get the odd bad burn even on low speeds

That is SOOOO much better.  That shot has bugged me for so many years now, that even just a fixed picture is awesome.  Thanks!!!  Now if Adywan can do that, I'd not only be very impressed (because I have no idea how the above image was even done), but also very happy! lol

The helmet has already been fixed. It was a nightmare to do in motion but i managed to pull it off in the end (after tearing most of my hair out. lol)
