(<em>Outdated</em>) Darth Vader isn't calm in the original trilogy; he has always been very emotional
Time

I too have often found that people tend to misremember Vader the most when it comes to OT characters (I wonder if the Marvel comics might have had something to do with this?). That’s not to say he isn’t also calm, or perhaps ‘restrained’ is a better word, in the OT, but anger was obviously an important part of what made up the dark side of the Force from very early on. The proto-Vader character of Valorum in the early drafts was actually much more PT Anakin-like in many aspects. I will however say that OT Vader was definitely more calm than he was in ROTS, which makes sense as he’s much older and more experienced later on. That’s a thing that I really liked about Charles Soule’s Vader comic is that he shows Vader gradually becoming less ROTS-like and more like the OT version throughout the series (I haven’t read the following Vader comics so I can’t comment on those). Though either era of Vader is a far cry from the unhinged rage of Kylo Ren in the ST, but I do agree that suggesting that he was always calm in the OT is blatantly misremembering what he was actually like in the OT.

Ah, I see. Well, maybe you’ll find something interesting on this thread:
Beyond the OT Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
It has playlists to all the prequel webisodes, a lot of YouTube featurettes for the Disney era movies, and ABC News documentary on sound in Star Wars, etc. Plenty of Clone Wars and Rebels stuff and a few The Mandalorian videos.
There’s also this thread:
General Star Wars Documentaries (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
Pretty much all of these documentaries are TV specials covering either an individual (like George Lucas or Mark Hamill) or focused on Star Wars as a phenomenon. Most of these were made within the last 25 years or so.

I’m wondering if the pandemic affected the documentary. I really liked everyone sitting around the table last season.

Possibly, but they might just have felt that it wasn’t necessary for this 1 hour format. Since season 1 was so groundbreaking it made sense to make multiple episodes and have a “roundtable discussion” with the creators and cast discussing everything in detail. I obviously wouldn’t have complained about getting more, but I thought it was a nice and succinct summary of season 2 that covered all of the most important points. That is other than the exclusion of the Luke scene, but that was most likely to avoid leaks.

My thread YouTube/Vimeo/etc. finds for Original Trilogy making-ofs, documentaries, promos, etc. has several making ofs that were never released on any home media.

For example:

Michel Parbot’s “The Making of The Empire Strikes Back”:
This one’s quite good, but I don’t think it was ever broadcast. A lot of the footage was repurposed for other programs though.

Some other favourites of mine are:

BBC’s The Risk Business (Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back)

Walter Cronkite’s “Universe” Visits ILM 1980

Horizon - How To Film The Impossible
This is a great one, though it isn’t just Star Wars, it also covers Temple of Doom and 2010: The Year We Make Contact.

SP FX: Special Effects - The Empire Strikes Back
I don’t think this one was ever on any DVD’s or blu-rays. It might have been on laserdisc though.

If you scroll through the thread you should find plenty more.

It’s interesting that the Disney Gallery special had no clips of Mark Hamill or anything related to Luke’s appearance, so it seems that they really did everything they could to avoid any leaks for the finale. Makes me wonder if they did something similar to ESB were the script that most people got had a different scene, and I’m guessing that they had a very small crew shooting that scene. They might not even have had the entire cast, so it wouldn’t surprise me if some of the actors didn’t even know who they were supposed to react to.

Small details that took you <em><strong>FOREVER</strong></em> to notice in the <em>Star Wars</em> films
Time

Watching one of the preview recently provided for 4K80 I noticed in the “Lando system” scene that Threepio, who’s shut off in the background, is not a stand-in puppet but actually Daniel’s in costume. Looking really closely I can see him shift slightly as he breathes. Seems kinda odd to have Daniels put on (or keep on) the costume only to have him sit still in the background, though this might have to do with the fact that as the Falcon detaches from the SD, the camera tilts a little and Ford and Fisher both move as if the cockpit itself actually tilts, and Threepio likewise shifts a bit in his seat.

I also noticed that a bit of the view out the cockpit is cut off in the next shot. At the far right of the cockpit windows, near Threepio’s head, there’s a black area where there should be more of the view of the SD and the space trash.

I also think there’s potential for other characters to show up - Cad Bane could be a cool option, if he’s alive. After all, judging by what we’ve seen of that unfinished TCW arc, Bane - if alive - would likely be out to get him.

Indeed! Bane and Boba’s standoff from the cancelled TCW arcs is not considered as canon yet, so maybe it could be reworked into any of the newer projects as long as Filoni’s involved.

I thought all the unfinished stories were considered canon. Or does that only apply to events that have been adapted or mentioned in some other series?

Very interesting theory, but since she was just shot in the back in the latest episode without much attention being paid to it… I’m inclined to believe she’s just an Imperial officer.

I just re-watched the scene were they take the bridge and I couldn’t see her in it, though it is a bit hard to make out faces some times. However, there’s no clear shot of her being killed.

I personally think it’s a bit of an odd casting for Sabine anyway, so probably just a SW fan casting (like Paul Sun-Hyung Lee), though it could work, and it would be a fun way of sneaking the character into live-action.

A bit far fetched IMO, but hardly impossible considering all the recent announcements (especially the Ahsoka series).

Great find none.

Since Propstore has more than just Star Wars items I decided to compile a list of all the OT videos they’ve made (as of Dec. 2020). I’ve organized them somewhat; the first category being videos that cover several movies or that contain longer interviews. The rest is dived into the three OT films and each “item” placed more or less in order of appearance in the movie.

Keep in mind that plot and story are fairly different things. The ST definitely has a story (i.e. stuff happens), however the plot (i.e. “a series of events deliberately arranged so as to reveal their dramatic, thematic, and emotional significance”), that’s an entirely different argument. Plot-wise the OT and PT are very complimentary stories, where the same themes are played out in reverse, Anakin is seduced by evil, Luke deafeats the darkness it and becomes good, etc. etc. The ST is very much a copy of the OT in both story and plot, with the quality of both being highly debatable.

An interesting question would be; what could the ST have done to compliment the PT & OT? Though this is hardly the thread for this discussion.

I’m still a bit confused as to why so many people complain about the music of the season finale. I thought it quite dramatic, especially when Luke arrived. And the score for the farewell scene between Din & Grogu was great.

Is it just the darktrooper music? A bit odd admittedly, but I honestly didn’t notice it until it was pointed out, and I am far from a fan of dubstep music (or modern popular music in general). As a score for robots it seemed a fairly logical choice. Also it’s not like Göransson’s score hasn’t been odd and experimental before in this series. F.ex. when the Razor Crest is falling towards Trask in Chapter 11 you can literally hear what sounds like metal being banged together as a part of the score. Overall I feel that he’s restrained himself much more in season 2 and kept it fairly “traditional” for the most part.

Was this the series finale? It felt like the resolution of the entire story.

It was definitely a resolution to Grogu’s story, though there’s still potential stories to be told I think. I wouldn’t say Din’s story is over though. His quest is over, but there’s still a lot for him to learn about what it truly means to be a Mandalorian. And now that he has the darksaber he could use it to unite the Mandalorians. Gideon’s still alive and a potential threat to Grogu, so is Thrawn and the Imperial Remnants in general. And Bo-Katan could become an adversary as well in the next season.

Honestly, the de-aged Mark Hamill look less and less weird the more I watch it. There are still some quirks here and there, though I’m wondering if a lot of the uncanny valley feeling might simply come from the fact that we all know Hamill does’t look like that anymore. There is something quite surreal about seeing a face we recognize from grainy 80’s film footage now appearing in this crisp digital footage alongside actors from this obviously new series. The more I look at it I’m sure its some kind of deepfake as it looks to good to be CG, especially considering its a TV series. The over-the-shoulder shots I do think is CG, but everything else looks like its based on ROTJ footage and probably blended with the face of a lookalike. The first time he speaks the lip movement seems quite natural to me, but the second time it seems a bit too little compared to the words coming out of his mouth. There is also a shot where he bends down to pick up Grogu where there is some slightly odd blurring and I wonder if the original actors face might have become more visible. Overall though, I think this has great potential for Luke showing up again in later season and other series as I’m sure this technology will only get better. And I definitely think this scene will grow on people more than Tarkin and RO Leia has (and the former I think works quite well overall with only the lip animation being the biggest issue).
