Sometimes do you feel like you should give up on the cause?
Time
Never give up the cause, if we do then the bearded flannel man wins.

Realistically speaking, Lucas won back in '77 and has been looking down ever since.

The way I see it, there are two kinds of Star Wars fans. There are the ones who first experienced the saga back before 1997 and cherish the originals for what they are. Either you saw the films in the theater or, like me, you grew up in the mid to late eighties watching them on laserdisc and VHS. These are the fans that for the most part condemn any sort of tinkering to the original versions, and long for them to exist on their DVD shelves. The second type of fans are those who first experienced the saga after 1997. They either aren't familar with or do not cherish the originals the way the others do. These are the fans who say things like "Jar-Jar should be in A New Hope," or "Han Solo looks cooler dodging Greedo's shot!"

What I've come to realize is that people are going to have their opinions about these films and you're hardly ever going to change them. I could sit here and list 50 reasons why the originals should have been released on DVD instead of the SE's. Of course then someone else would come along and list 50 reasons why the SE's deserved to be released instead, and with even more digital alterations.

A lot of people think that Lucas went crazy sometime in the nineties and is only doing this for the money. Who knows his true intentions, but one thing is certain: from the Admiral Ackbar cookie mold to Revenge of the Sith toilet paper, there has always been some obscure items with Star Wars slapped on them.

So would I say I've given up? I guess I have on other people, but not on getting the O-OT on DVD or HD.

Help: Looking for... a O-OT preservation project on DVD.
Time
There are many versions of the O-OT, most of which can be found on this board. You are correct, it is against the rules to offer bootlegs for sale or inquire about purchasing them. However, you may inquire about trades or request someone willing to PM you about acquiring a set. Most people on this board willing to accomodate you do so for the cost of discs and shipping or less.

Your biggest decision will be which version you would like to own. If you are strictly a PAL person, you have but one choice: Moth3r's set. If, however, you are able to play NTSC DVD's, you have a host of other options. Dr. Gonzo, Cowclops v2, and EditDroid sets are quite poplur at the moment. Have a look at the official project thread as well as the official screenshots thread to compare versions.

That's too bad for the Cowboys. I thought the game was in the bag too. Well, at least they beat the Chargers in San Diego last week. Looks like everyone who picked the Chargers to win the AFC West is starting to grumble. People will be raising their other eyebrow when the Broncos beat the Chiefs next Monday night.

Not to be an ass, but you might be saying that a lot this year.

I'm just glad the Broncos pulled it out at the end. They made way too many mistakes to win against the Chargers. If not for the play of the defense in the second half, they wouldn't have had a chance.

In my experience, if you are trying to preserve the audio as PCM on a DVD, you will be sacrificing space for the video. You would be better off going with DD audio conversion as I have found no noticable difference between this (at 224/256kbps) and PCM audio (1536 kbps) - it takes less space!!!

You may not be able to tell the difference, but a lot of people -- including myself -- can. I have a $1000 THX receiver and a good speaker system to compliment it. It's pretty easy to tell the difference between the two on a good quality audio setup. I'm not trying to bash on compressed audio formats (768k DTS is actually my favorite format), but nothing compares to the crisp clean sound of uncompressed PCM.

You're right about one thing though, a PCM soundtrack @1536k is not ideal for a single layer DVD. It would be ideal for a double layer DVD though, which is what we're aiming for.

I have to admit, watching an occasional fight is fun to watch. But when it becomes a distraction from the game itself, I have to frown upon it. Hockey is a game of skill, speed, and reflexes. Anger and raw emotion have their places, but nothing compares to a beautifully executed power play or a goalie on fire.

[One exception: the time(s) when the Avs and the Red Wings decided to forget the game and empty the benches in a free-for-all. Watching two goalies go at it at center ice is a spectacle in itself.]

Um, anyway, today marks a red letter day in the history of the NFL.

The greatest wide receiver of all time (the G.O.A.T.) officially retired today. Jerry Rice held a press conference from Broncos headquarters and announced his retirement. Faced with the realization that he would be the 4th or 5th string receiver and probably wouldn't suit up for every game, Rice decided to call it quits. It was probably for the best.

Jerry Rice holds nearly every record there is for a wide receiver. His career numbers for receptions, touchdowns, and yards will never be broken. He's so far ahead of any other player in those categories it's not even funny.

Looking back, I really hated how he and Joe Montana completely embarassed the Broncos back in Superbowl XXIV in 1990, which stands as the darkest moment in Bronco history. But it was almost ironic seeing him retire as a Bronco, and I can't help but be a fan of the guy and feel a bit nostalgic as I look back at what was probably the greatest career of anyone to ever play the game.

No, you didn't miss anything. I just haven't been able to finalize anything yet. Last week didn't help much either. And since I'll be out of town this week I wouldn't hold my breath. I'd love to say something like, "updates are coming by this weekend," but I can't guarantee that. You can blame Katrina and my brother's wedding for stealing all my free time.

Rob, that's an excellent point. If, like me, you weren't old enough to experience the originals in the theater back in the eighties, this is probably the closest you'll ever get. Even moreso for someone like codester who wasn't even old enough to experience the special editions in '97: a good OT transfer is your holy grail.

[I'd like to say thanks for the donations we've recieved over the past week or two. While I can appreciate the effort as always, I think the money would be put to much better use by the hurricane victims in the southern US. I can't imagine the hell their lives must be right now. I'm going to be taking all we've received these last few weeks and donate it to the Red Cross, plus a little extra out of my own pocket. I would encourage all of you to do the same.]
