FORUM NEWS: Moving Threads
Time
Well I honestly didn't think Jay would make any changes, but would implement the new forums in the new software. But I think this is a great idea splitting the forum up now. So kudos to Jay.

Going through the forum today and moving threads, I've noticed that there are a whole lot more non-Star Wars projects than I thought. There were also a lot of good technical discussion threads buried on the last pages.

converting MPEG2 to AVI
Time
First of all, are you 100% sure the computer at school will play DivX? DivX is not installed by default on Windows machines so you might want to double-check before Wednesday.

As for converting, just use VirtualDubMod, which should have come with your Gordian Knot download.

  • Open up your video in VDubMod, and go to File -> Save as...
  • At the bottom, make sure "Full Processing Mode" is selected from the drop-down menu, and click on "Change"
  • Select the codec you want to convtert to and click on "Configure"
  • For a 30 second clip, you probably don't need to do a multi-pass encode, so just choose a 1-pass setting.
  • Configure the settings as needed or leave them at the defaults if you're not sure. Then save to a new file.

    Hope that helps.

    FORUM NEWS: Moving Threads
    Time
Guys, we have two new forums created by Jay that will split up "Preservation and Fan Edits" into three different forums:

These new forums will help alleviate the maddness and keep threads from sinking too fast.

It's my job to start moving threads to the new forums, so if you find a bad link to a thread you're watching or can't find something, it's most likely been moved.

From this point on, there will be no new threads allowed in this forum about non-Star Wars projects, or general technical discussion. Feel free to begin starting threads of these topics in the other forums.

Finally, this place has never been known not to listen to the community, so if you have any suggestions or ideas please post them here or contact either Jay or myself.

I'd say that's pretty much impossible, since both these sets were made from the same telecine transfer. Although I guess the split saber problem was fixed in there somewhere...

This is an ongoing debate and in many ways a subjective one. Pouring over captures from both sets, it's safe to say they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

That said, it's hard to argue against a straight Faces transfer as there doesn't seem to be one to date.

    Fan edit sub-forum?
    Time
I think that's a great idea. With the bulk of site traffic obviously going to the Preservation/Fan Edits forum right now, I think there is enough interest in different subjects to warrant some new forums or sub-forums. I'm thinking it could go something like this:

    Preservation and Fan Edits
    • Star Wars releases and ongoing projects - (official project threads and release info)
    • Non-Star Wars releases and ongoing projects - (official non-star wars project threads and release info)
    • General preservation and fan edit discussion - (requests, how-to's, and technical discussion)

    Any Nirvana Fans?
    Time
I became a huge Nirvana fan in '94 after the whole Cobain suicide ordeal. They had some cool videos and helped change the face of music after the permed hair, make-up wearing craziness of the 80's. They also knocked Michael Jackson off the top of the Billboard charts.

I have every album including the bootleg rarities like Hormoaning, Outcesticide I, II, & III, and numerous live albums. In Utero is definitely my favorite album. The drum acoustics are probably the best I've ever heard on a record.

These days though, when I get the craving for some Nirvana tunes, I usually listen to the rarity albums instead of the mainstream ones. Songs like "In His Hands," "Sappy," "Return of the Rat," and "Gallons of Rubbing Alcohol Flow Through the Strip" are all awesome, as is the title song on the greatest hits album, "You Know You're Right."

The pinnacle of their career quality-wise was definitely '94 when they recorded the MTV Unplugged session. That and In Utero showcased just how much better the band had gotten after the three-chord pop songs of Nevermind. I just wish we could have gotten one more album out of Cobain before the end.

***Citizen's NTSC DVD/PAL DVD/XviD Info and Feedback Thread***
    Time
I think we've taken another step towards maxing out the potential of LD transfer with this release. Kudos to you Citizen! This is definitely the best overall OT release to date. I think you and Moth3r are correct in that Moth3r's has a slight edge in detail, but in motion I think the difference is smaller than you might think. Add to that the superb 5.1 DD soundtrack and it didn't take long to piss off my neighbors this evening.

We've been taking into consideration just about every LD release out there. There are definite advantages to the PAL transfers, but you'd be amazed at just how close the level of detail is on the X0.

    NFL
    Time
You gotta love it when everyone is saying how the Eagles and the Pats might not make the playoffs, and the Colts have the best defense in the NFL. HA!

Good on ya Dallas softening up the Eagles like that. They should be ripe and ready to lose in Denver in three weeks.

catofong, if you were trying to cut and paste imageshack's code you'll notice that it doesn't work since this forum's link code is different. Just get the full size version's direct url and use the [ L=text ] URL [ /L ] code, or just click on the "http" box above the reply box.

edit: Almost forgot, your revised version much better. Good job.
