The XØ Project Official T-shirt Design Contest - And the winner is...
Time
THIS CONTEST HAS ENDED.

http://x0project.com/graphics/x0merch.jpg
After much debate and no results to show for it, the X0 Project is proud to present the Official Logo Design Contest. We've been kicking around a few ideas for the new shirts for quite a while, but haven't really come up with anything that we're happy with. That's where you come in.

We will be opening up this contest for anyone and everyone who would like to participate. We are looking for a design or logo that we can apply to not only shirts but other items as well, like hats, mugs, or whatever we decide to come out with.

Enter for a chance to win free X0 Project merchandise! Send your entries to [contest at x0project dot com].

Here's the gist:

* This competition opens on March 11, 2006 and closes on March 20, 2006. (Although we will accept entries any time from now until the March 20 deadline.
* The winner will receive free merchandise with their winning design.
* Anyone may enter the competition.
* Enter as many individual designs as you like.
* Designs using ony 2 or 3 colors are preferred, but not required.
* Entries are strongly encouraged to be in vector format. (.eps, .pdf, etc.)
* Use of one of the X0 Project themes is preferred, but not required: "The X0 Project", "Take Back the Trilogy", "ALT + 0216", "Party like it's 1977" -- something to that effect.
* By entering a design into this competition, you automatically declare that you are the sole creator of the design. Only unique designs will be considered - All artwork must be your own, and not copyrighted by anyone else.
* Entrants automatically grant the X0 Project the rights to reproduce their design on t-shirts and other merchandising for the purposes of promoting the X0 Project.
* The X0 Project team will only consider entries that are submitted as per these guidelines, through the email address [contest at x0project dot com].
* The judges’ decision is final; no correspondence will be entered into.

wow. gimme a minute to respond here.

[edit]

I admire the enthusiasm on this guys, I really do. There are merits on both sides of the argument. But I think people are forgetting what we wrote in the first post:
First and foremost, the project aims to be an archive preservation of the Original Star Wars Trilogy laserdiscs in the best quality possible. We are culling video from a number of different sets. These include, but are not limited to, the US Definitive Collection set, the US "Faces" set, and their Japanese equivalents.

Every single frame will be looked at and corrected. Fixes will be limited to dirt and film damage removal, color correction, and stabilization. Wherever possible we will be using the actual celluloid film for reference.

Glitches including matte lines, saber colors, and frame jumps will not be fixed in the initial version. A possible second version could include fixes to matte lines and garbage mattes, but keep the rest of the "glitches" intact.

We will always be keeping the raw transfer, with starless starfields, LD pressing errors, garbage mattes, everything. (Think of this as the DarkJedi of X0 releases. )
For the absolute purist, this may be their lovechild. It will be how the LDs would look if you were fortunate enough to own an X0 player.

We will also be doing a straight cleanup to remove cue dots, laserdisc sparklies, restore the starfields (remembering we aren't putting any stars back that are not on the laserdisc, just bringing them out), remove the garbage mattes, remove any "film problems" i.e. splices, scratches etc. as per our previous newsletter, and adjust the color to match the theatrical releases as close as possible.

This would form our "base print" for any future projects. These would include things like saber fixes, fixing dodgy effects, etc.

Garbage mattes are really a color correction issue when you think about it. If the colors were set properly, you wouldn't see them at all. At least in the initial archive version, they are certainly of interest from a 'wow, look how they did that in 1977' point of view.

But they won't be in the version that we will be sitting down to enjoy watching in our homes.

I love the media. A guy throws two interceptions in a road game in one of the toughest stadiums in the league and all of a sudden he's called Jake 'the mistake' Plummer.

I know it's not the first time he's been called that, but come on. He has one of the lowest interception percentages in the NFL and only 6 INTs on the year. If people don't think Denver will still clinch a first round bye they've got another thing coming.

Yep, that defense is scary. Hard to believe they're doing so well with a below-average offense, but hey, the 2001 Ravens were the same way.

Tough loss against at Arrowhead for the Broncos. Now all week long people are going to be saying, "oh man, Denver's losing it. They might not make the playoffs now with how the Chiefs and Chargers are playing." But I promise you this: Denver will be the number 2 seed in the AFC.

Star Wars 2004 DVD question... (I have no clue where to post this...)
Time
Your "certain point of view" is just that. If they had changed the gold/silver scheme for the DVDs, people would be complaining about it not being like the scheme of the classic VHS tapes. DVD covers aren't very hard to make and print out though. I've made at least 5 different versions of SW covers myself. So how about it? I can almost see an "AdamWanKenobi 'Establishing Continuity' Gold Boxset" in the near future.

Or just wait for the immenent saga boxset with all 6 films that comes in silver for WS or gold for FS.

The Colts will not go undefeated.

I'm banking that Indy's next three games will be very close and possibly upsets. Tennessee might suprise some people on Sunday at Indy. McNair is coming off his best game of the season. I predict a close game where the Colts will have to prove how good they are in the final minutes. A week later at Jacksonville, Colts will see their toughest division rival and this could turn out exactly like their first meeting this year, with the game being decided by one score in the fourth quarter. After that, the Chargers will be fighting for a wild card spot and are really a better team than their record indicates. And remember they almost beat the Colts in Indy last season. Tomlinson will run all over them, and again this will come down to the final minutes.

I continue to hope that the Broncos will win out and challenge Indy for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Though the likely outcome of the season will be Denver (13-3) at Indy (14-2) for the AFC Championship. Even in that scenario, I believe Denver and San Diego are the only AFC teams that can beat Indy in the playoffs. And I'm saying this right now, Denver will not get blown out by the Colts this year if they meet.

Karyudo and nin are right on. The Japanese SC discs are not superior to the THX versions, yet they will be immensely useful for a lot of shots where we can clean up the noise inherent from the discs themselves and provide us with the best hybrid LD transfer possible.

Once we get prestine X0 caps of the SCs, I think we'll have to do some sort of split-screen TC print, lol.

Site update: with the holidays in full swing, don't expect a lot of new articles in the next few weeks. I'm working hard on a slew of new features for the site, however, that will allow for things like user comments to articles, a wiki-type section for analyzing the LDs frame-by-frame, and maybe even an XØ blog. Stay tuned.

The NFL didn't mandate that throwbacks be worn this year for thanksgiving. As such you had Detroit with their black jersey's and Atlanta with alternate road uniform #37. The only team that wore throwbacks was Dallas. Oh well...

And what a game that was! Denver pulling it out in overtime. I haven't seen Shanahan that excited at the end of a game since the Suberbowl years. What an awesome play by Ron Dayne. And people thought he didn't have any game left. Plummer's interception streak came to an end, but oh well. I had to happen sometime. I'm just glad Denver is still in the hunt for a first round bye in the playoffs, and possibly homefield advantage.

Could? Try will.

It will be an awesome game of epic proportions. If only there was a turducken to top it off. I really hope they wear the throwback unis too, or at least Denver wears their orange alternates. Like I said before, they're the only team that looks good in orange.
