The whole reason it was released as a kit was because this doesn't qualify as a fan edit. Converting your existing ROTS DVD to marioxb's version with the BOTW subs is fairly easy to do if you download and follow his directions.
From what I've seen, the Special Collection LD's are the closest in color to the actual film. The only problem with them is that they are a little too blue/green overall, as the film's age was starting to show at the time of the telecine. Still, I'd say that the original color was more blue/purple than red/orange. Whether that's a "deliberate creative decision" or not, who knows.
Edmonton is playing very well. Especially since they're going against arguably the #1 team in the playoffs in Detroit. They're pretty much taken the Red Wings off their game and have been playing them very physical. The Wings won game 1 in OT, but the Oilers won convincingly in game 2. Edmonton fans don't have much to complain about at this point.
Ah, the R7G is a very good player. Has a lot of the same technology as the HLD-X0 and X9 players. You can tell the detail is much better than my captures, which are from a CLD-V2600.
After comparing to the X0 capture, the hue is a little more blue in the Japanese version. Not by much, but it is noticable.
From my experience, you are probably better off capturing at the default capture settings and then color correcting afterward. Your example there is very good, though I'd say maybe a little too red and black level is a little too dark. Looks like you're on your way to having a great transfer though!
Hi Rob. Yes this is the place for all updates X0 here on OT. If you haven't already, sign up for the newsletter on the web site. I usually send out updates to the mailing list before I post them here.
This month, we've been working on getting X0 merch made up to sell on the site. I've been trying to create a web store for the site, as well as update the graphics with the new logo.
As far as new content is concerned, MeBe is close to finishing the initial video for what will eventually be our second web doc. I should have more news on that very soon.
I could be wrong, but your initial screenshot looks a lot like the raw X0 capture. I'll have to check tonight and see.
I assume you got that other pic of the three US versions from me. Those were taken obviously from an inferior LD player, as the level of detail and ghosting suggests. Also keep in mind that things like color and hue will vary between captures especially when different equipment and software is used. I have a feeling that if I had captured a shot of the Japanese DefCol LD and included it, it would look very similar to the US version with only the IRE difference apparent. Also note that the hue is different between the US DefCol and the US Faces, with the DefCol actually looking closer to the red/purple hue of your Japanese capture.
So I guess what I'm saying is that the hue might not be as far off as you think. I just depends on your capturing equipment and laserdisc player.
Oh, and by the way, that capture is outstanding! Very clean and detailed. May I ask what laserdisc player you used?
If you're the expert, why don't you educate the rest of us on what you mean by "there are very VERY few that will do the translation properly." And if you're going to reference all your knowledge from another site, would a link be too much to ask for?
Dammit, the Avs weren't even trying last night against Edmonton. They had less than 20 shots on goal, and the defense was sketchy at best. That shorthanded goal in the 3rd was just handed to the Oilers on a silver platter as 3 players watched the puck go into the corner, get picked up and passed to Stoll for the goal. It's like they didn't even care about the game. Aside from Theodore, who is the only reason the Oilers scored 3 goals instead of like 7, the Avs don't look like they're ready for the playoffs. They're limping in with 3 straight losses.
I predict the Stars will win convincingly in game 1. After that, Sakic, Tanguay, and co. better get with it.

Nirvana became internationally famous in 1992. Cobain died two years later. If he'd been around 5 more years or so, and had a couple more albums out, I think he'd qualify as a Lennon or Elvis.
