I still don't think you understand why Jay implemented this policy here. This site is the hub of the preservation and fan edit community. You tried using these forums to take part of that community away and make it your own. All this was before you bothered to contact Jay. In fact, I don't think you ever did. You knew that Jay had already been working on fanedits.com months ago. When I found out about your new web site from Dayv, he told me that you, Boon, had contacted Jay about your new site. But in reality, you never did. He had to contact you about it after I and a couple other people brought it to his attention. So let the record show that it was you guys who started all this secrecy crap.

It didn't look like this a few days ago. What you see is the development after being forbidden companionship by Jay himself. And we don't rest obviously, that is for true. We are creating something, people might like to be part of, which is their decision.[Our forum started very small and in the beginning no one posted there anything, not me. You may want to take a look at the first post and how much time passed until the next one was made and so on. Call it evidence if you must, but I am not a liar. Our webmaster is a huge Star Trek fan, he created our forum and that explains why there is room for sci-fi, ST and SW talk.
The thing is: now we want to be a home for those who want, for whatever reason. Call it competition, I call it neighbourhood.

Having posts and having different forums to post in are two completely different things. Are you saying that you had nothing to do with what forums were created on your own site? The fact is, when we found out that your site was up and running, most of those forums were already there, and that was back when there was probably a total of 20 posts and about 4 or 5 forum members. It was also before Jay ever got involved. So when you tried labeling it as a "companion site" or "sister site", your forums hardly looked the part.

2. Let's not talk about money again, please. And please let us not compare this LITTLE forum with a website like myspleen, where tetabytes of traffic are used to drive the torrents through. I know about prices in Germany and the USA (and USA are cheaper). Hundreds of dollars each month? What for???? If that was true I would start looking for a new provider. It is not fair, zion, to say, that I don't care about money, because I don't host the websites. Truth is: I care for my friends, who offer all of us a chance to do what we like to do, make a website about fanedits and talk about it. I don't know how you treat places your friends pay for.

Why don't you look up how much a Windows/ColdFusion-based dedicated server costs per month. And while your at it, why don't you look up how torrent sites work. Those terrabytes of traffic don't even go through the server. That's why they call it peer-to-peer. Sure, your showcase site and PHP-based forums can be hosted on a $10 per month bargain-basement shared hosting plan. But you simply cannot do that with a site that gets as much traffic as this place. If you think the only people who use this site are the ones logged in, think again.

Probably Discreet Combustion and Adobe Premiere. Those are the two programs that we're using the most. Combustion is used for the frame by frame cleanup, as you've probably seen in the web doc. Premiere is used for editing the shots together from the different sources, and for color correction. AviSynth and VirtualDubMod are also huge players though.

I think this whole thing comes down to a misunderstanding. Boon claims that he and his "associates" took Jay's offer to host your site as some sort of issue of control. But at the same time, your new forum makes you look like you're trying to compete with OT.com.

To be honest, when Dayv first showed me the site a day or two after it went up, I didn't know what to think. Dayv talked about it as a "sister site" to OT.com, but if that was your intention, why start a large forum with topics about preservations, Star Wars, Star Trek, and Sci-Fi? You can't expect us to take that in any other way than you're trying to compete with OT.com.

Boon, you assume Jay is talking about money as if his only goal is to profit off of this site and fanedits.com. Like Jay's some sort of Phillip Wise TFN mogul who doesn't even know anything about the fanbase and is only in it for the money. This is far from the truth and you know it. Jay throws the money issue into the equation as an experienced webmaster should. By throwing up a web site and a forum on someone else's server, I hardly expect you to know anything about what it costs to run a site with as much traffic as OT.com. But Jay does, and he knows that this site costs hundreds per month just for hosting costs alone. As one of the admins of this new web site, you should understand things like this. It's not about charging people for admission, it's about being able to pay for the privelege of having your web site online every month. Just ask Xavier over on MySpleen how important money is.

This whole situation is rubbing everyone the wrong way. It's unfortunate that things like this happen, but it is inevitable as the evolution of our community comes to pass.

NFL PRE-SEASON
Time
Not the best performance by the Broncos. Mike Bell fumbled, the second team defense got torn apart everytime they blitzed, and the 3rd team offensive line was horrible.

On the plus side, Jay Cutler looked anything but a rookie quarterback. He was solid, poised, and made all of his throws look easy. He also made the receivers around him look good, like rookie tight end Tony Scheffler and former Lion David Kircus. I'm very surprised at Cutler's performance, and I'm guessing that Leinart and Young aren't going to look as good in their debuts. I guess we'll see next week when the Broncos face the Titans.

Good capture card?
Time
DV capture devices are really easy and efficient at what they do, but they do have their limitations. A MAJOR limitation is that you can only capture with the DV codec. It is a true digital capturing system, which means that capturing from analog sources like VHS and laserdisc is not ideal. It will capture only with it's proprietary DV codec, not giving you the option of capturing uncompressed video or with something like HuffYUV instead. The DV capture will look decent, but you will lose a lot of color information right off the bat. And the reds in DV always seem to bleed as well.

Don't buy something like that if you're going to capture primarily from VHS/LD. Buy something like the card Moth3r suggested, or another PCI capture card that doesn't have a proprietary MPEG capture chip. For the X0 Project, we used the PDI Deluxe Card and captured with HuffYUV. That's about as good as it gets for analog capture. Even though that card runs about $200 online, you can find similar cards for as low as $30. For maximum quality, make sure you buy one that has the video inputs directly on the card, instead of having a single output with a multi-input adapter.

Hey mr. ego. nanner split. Since you think you're so cool why did you even take the effort to respond to me if I'm so stupid? Looks like some insecurity to me. Did my insults make you cry? I'm so sorry you little baby. Why don't you just admit the only reason you won't respond to this thread intellegently is because you're too lazy along with your other cronies to type a responce and you guys have no knowledge on laws or the constitution.

You are not trying to insight a discussion about a lawsuit, you're baiting other forum members. I don't have time to sit here and babysit all day, so I'll give you two choices. You can either choose to come back and try again next week, or you can take your own advice and leave altogether. Until then, please note that you have been relieved of your posting abilities.

Blackmage and everyone else: give it a rest. This thread has gone way overboard.

Lawsuit on George Lucas?
Time
OK now hold on a minute. First you come in here and post a crazy idea about filing a lawsuit against George Lucas because he's said contradictory things over the years about the OT. Now that in itself isn't bad. You're sort of on the mark with all the other crazy ideas that people here come up with. But you didn't stop there. You kept baiting people to get into this discussion with you. And instead of discussing the issue in a civilized manner, you go off and insult everyone who disagrees with you.

I don't know what kind of people you think we are here at OT.com, but we don't sit around all day thinking of ways kill George Lucas or steal his money, which we have so eagerly given him over the years. (I'm speaking in general here, I can't account for the occasional wacko such as yourself or random forum troll.)

So does it really come as a shock to you that people are treating you this way? You're bringing all this on yourself kid. Even if this whole thread was supposed to be a joke (which you failed miserably to convey it as), you clearly have an agenda that would say otherwise:
Originally posted by: BadAssKeith
George Lucas, you're a fraud. Everything that made the Original Trilogy great was other people’s incentive. You're a talentless hack. You constantly contradict your pathetic excuses for why your prequels suck, changes to your gay special editions, and why you won't release the unraped originals respectively. I have more than enough evidence to sue your fat ass for everything you got and win. Why don’t you just admit you’re a selfish, greedy, coward? I’ll see you in court: Lucass.
If that is supposed to be a joke too, you're again failing miserably at conveying your humor to the rest of us. So why don't you lighten up a little and quit with the Lucas bashing. You're not making any friends among your fellow Star Wars fans.

The best post in this thread came from Obi Jeewhyen, which I think deserves another read:
First off, if you haven't already ... it's beyond time to get used to a good many Star Wars fans making the larger body of Star Wars fans look bad. With no offense meant to anyone here ... there are a whole lot who are so geeky, so socially misfitting, and so ultra nerdish that it could potentially be embarrassing to be associated with them via the fandom in common. We must all learn to let only ourselves embarrass ourselves, and not be remotely tarred by what anyone else does vis-a-vis their Star Wars mania.

Practice laughing at your fandom, other fandom more radical than your own, and your place along the spectrum. Watch the Triumph the Insult Dog bit until you can laugh at yourself and Star Wars fandom in general. It's healthy.

Secondly, speaking as a legal professional, there is no case to be had against George Lucas for contradictory commercial speech. You can't even sue for false advertising, though you certainly have a Better Business Bureau claim. I suppose if a zillion of us buy the upcoming DVDs, we can each claim damages of $40 and seek to get certified as a class action.

But don't hold your breath.

Your best rebuke against LucasFilm's bad faith business practices is to withhold your money from it from now on.

I intend to lead by example.

Attempting to sue George Lucas over what he chooses to do with something he created is going to "make people look upon Star Wars fans with more respect"? That's pretty rich, kid.

But if you want to try, be my guest. I'm sure a handful of old quotes is more than enough evidence to win the case, and you'll be back here to remind us of all the money, fortune, and fame you've received.

If that happens, it'll be like a scene out of Hackers where they hide the disc somewhere safe where only they know where to look. In our version, it'll be a secret backup contingency plan, codenamed "bindibadgi" where those of us who escaped arrest will all pack up and meet at the designated rendezvous point somewhere in Asia where copyrights don't exist. We'll sell our own DVDs on the street to make ends meet, and put the LOOK discs to shame.

...or not.

Yes, but I don't know much about pre-DVD standard sound formats, my question is then if you've got a DVD player with a 5.1 output, will it (or the amp) automatically detect the sound as being Dolby Pro-Logic (which is pseudo-4.0, right?) and output it correctly (or as best as possible) to your 5.1 set-up?

Even if your DVD player is hooked up with digital audio cable, your amp will detect the audio as pro-logic and play it however you've set up your amp to play that format. Some will automatically play it back in Pro-logic surround (stereo with matrixed center and surround channels), and some will play it back in stereo (mine automatically switches to THX Cinema surround mode whenever 5.1 or pro-logic plays). Either way, switching between the different sound modes is easy.

There is no 5.1 channel audio on any of the pre-SE releases. This project aims to be an accurate preservation of the pre-SE laserdiscs. So the main audio we want to feature would be the PCM stereo track from the DC. Personally, I'd like to have the mono track as an option as well just for comparison's sake. But the PCM stereo track, being uncompressed, would be the highest quality audio we could use.

The THX trailer you mention was not on the DC laserdiscs, or any other laserdisc release for that matter. My guess is that it was a fan created work, but I could be wrong. It's way too long anyway in my opinion, and it will not be on our DVD.

The "original crawl" on the new DVD is NOT the original crawl! Screenshot inside!

Looks like the SEs had the original crawl as well.

While we're at it, here's a cap of the pre-THX Japanese Special Collection LD. (courtesy dark/sega SC):

It would appear that this is the same starfield as the '93 THX, i.e. not the original starfield.

Yes it shows what you said before, that for the preview they faded the SW logo out later then in the real-time crawl to make it faster, I'd say that's very strong evidence that the crawl is the original (which I believe it is), and not recreated. By the way, what's that awful yellow line doing in your frames?

I don't think it proves that it's the original, but it could very well be. The only reason I doubt it is because the video doesn't jump around like the EOD clip does.

The line you refer to was on the film. I don't know what the technical term for it is. We didn't clean the scans up or anything.
