Six-Movie Star Wars Marathon at Celebration IV

I wonder what exactly they will be screening, and how? Will there be new prints made or high res digital projection from the digital masters, or will they simply be projecting the dvds, as is sometimes done? If they are from digital masters, i wonder if they will be any of the updated versions of the films, if such things are indeed coming. That would be quite the way to reveal them. Anyone who attends these screenings should be on the lookout for pink and green lightsabers in Star Wars--if theres not then these are brand new masters which will assumingly be made for an impending release. And if there are still pink and green lightsabers in Star Wars during a marathon screening organized by Lucasfilm for the 30th anniversary...then thats just dumb. But i guess it will go well with Greedo shooting first and Hayden Christenson in Return of the Jedi.

I ordered a ticket to the event, but I'm not sure if I'm going to go because I already made plans to go to Universal Studios that day. I'd like to swing by and see the OT though so maybe we'll cut out early and head over there. My guess is that this will be a digital presentation of the films since Lucasfilm is directly involved. I wonder though if they would show the newest versions of the films even if they did have them ready.

Saved by the Bell in chronological order (a WIP)

Not to put a damper on what you're doing, but this project is more of a custom DVD set rather than a fan edit. The GMMB episodes would be considered a preservation, so I don't have any problem with that. Unfortunately, rearranging the order of the old episodes that aired later isn't enough to call this a fan edit, and neither is converting the TV movie DVDs. I like what you're doing, but we're going to have to follow the rules for custom DVDs - which means you may talk about this project, but do not discuss it's distribution.

With that said, good luck on your efforts.

Dammit, I thought this was the thread where people photoshop prequel spirits into ROTJ. That thread rocked.

Congrats DC.

Really? There was a thread like that? That is so aswsome! Let's resurrect it in honor Chaltab's Jedi Spirit status. Does anybody know the name of it?

I looked but I don't see it anywhere. I'll give somebody a cookie if they can find it.

TMNT
Time
I have high hopes for this film. It was written by the original creators, and the animation is supposed to be incredible.

TMNT 3 came out on my 13th birthday and I thought it was pretty lame. This one comes out around my birthday as well. I just hope the results are different this time.

ROTS Easter Egg - I Am Highly Frightened
Time
I remember first seeing part of that clip back at Celebration 3. I don't know if it's on the DVD, but at the same panel (which was some ILM computer animator guys) they showed some other ones including a clip of Palpatine playing an organ. It was roughly the same shot of him shooting lightning at Yoda, but they put the keyboard under his hands and it looked pretty funny.

Most people don't know this, but most arcade games have difficulty settings buried in their service menus. I would assume that a port of a game like this would make those settings available somehow.

Man, I loved that game way back in the arcade. My cousins and I almost beat the game with $20 one day. Almost.

Hopefully the Simpsons arcade game isn't too far behind.

Though it wasn't uninteresting enough last time to keep you away.

Fixed.

I'm not looking back, so don't think of replying.

Just so you know, your next "I'm leaving" thread will be deleted.

How much does it cost Lucasfilm to make a DVD?
Time

I was wondering if any of you know how much it costs Lucasfilm to produce each of their DVDs of their '04 special editions? I heard that they make a huge profit on each DVD that they sell. I bet Lucas outsources most, if not, all of the manufacturing of his merchandising and the things he sells only cost him pennies on the dollar of profit he makes off the stuff.

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread. I'm not sure if this should go here or in the General SW thread. I have come here often and decided to join because I don’t believe a question like this has ever been asked.

Of course everything is outsourced. No studio has their own disc pressing factory or t-shirt print shop on site. Like any other studio, Lucasfilm (or perhaps 20th Century Fox) pays some other company to print the discs, package, and deliver them to stores. You could have left Lucasfilm out of your question entirely and asked, "How much does it cost to make a DVD? I heard that studios make a huge profit on each DVD they sell." And it's true that they do, because it costs maybe a couple bucks at most to press a disc, print the artwork, and package it in a case. It doesn't cost Lucasfilm any more or less than any other studio to make DVDs.

Of course, producing a DVD requires a certain amount of pre-mastering and design before it can be sent off for printing. You have to pay someone (like Lowry Digital) to transfer and clean up your prints, someone else to master the audio and video, someone else (like Van Ling) to create the DVD menus, and someone else to compile all the materials and author and encode the disc. Who knows how many hundreds of thousands of dollars they paid for all that, but the pre-mastering work on the 2004 DVDs was outstanding. Unfortunately it was a handful of "deliberate creative decisions" that were the problem. But of course sales of the DVDs in 2004 set records and millions were sold around the world.

Now think about the most recent release of the GOUT. Basically all they did was take the LD master tapes and combine them with some super-cheesy menus that were probably whipped up by some bargain-basement design studio in a day or two, and presto: a super-cheap authored DVD master to combine with the existing SE DVDS.

But now that that's already been done and they have masters ready to go, every time they re-release the DVDs, all they're paying is the cost to manufacture the discs and packaging. Are they making a huge profit off of them? Based on how much it costs to produce them, of course they are.

And guess what? Even though they've been re-released every year for the last three years, people are still buying them.

I had no idea what to expect when I bought Prime 2. I just knew that I loved Prime and even if it was a rehash of the same game I would love it. I think it's great so far, and the addition of the Light/Dark parallel worlds is great. It's a lot harder too. I find myself dying way more often than the first one. I just spent a good couple of hours trying to beat the slug/moth thing and probably an hour on the boss before that.
