Just saw this film last night. While it didn't live up to the hype I've seen for it, I did enjoy it. I can understand the graphical style seeing as this is a Frank Miller film, and I think it did help in making it feel more like an ancient mythological tale. I think it could have used a little more backstory about the weird guys with the oracle and what control they had (or at least explained why Sparta wouldn't send their whole army to begin with but suddenly did after their king and his 300 men were dead despite what the weird guys on the mountain top said.)

I liked the action scenes. Some of my friends said that the slow motion/fast motion/slow motion thing bothered them, but I thought it totally worked. I just didn't like how they never really showed more than about 20 spartans at a time. Even in the shots were they were all in formation together, it only looked like there were 15 guys fighting the Persians.

C3 actually had three entrances into the con every morning. If I recall correctly, there was a line on one side of the convention center for fan club people, one on the other side for everyone else, as well as the not-widely-known skywalk entrance from the building across the street. But yeah, even with all that the lines to get in were murder.

GenCon are the people that have handled the last three celebrations (2, 3, & 4) and while they did a much better job than Wizards of the Coast did with C1, they still haven't seemed to get it right. I remember them having to shut down the store at C3 on Saturday because there were too many people in line. The people who only had badges for that day went ballistic but all GenCon did was tell them to come back the next day. I'm sure that's a big reason why this time the store is running 24 hours a day. I just hope the rest of the con goes smoothly. From what I hear from someone in the know, there are a lot of cool things planned, but nothing is concrete yet. Apparently LA is much slower at planning things than Indy was.

Sure, LA is not centrally located - in the United States. But really when you think about how many people come from other countries, it makes a lot more sense to have it in a city that is easier to get to from an international standpoint.

If pre-registration sales are down compared to C3, it isn't because of the location. It's because there isn't a new Star Wars movie coming out. The first three Celebrations happened right before the theatrical premieres of each prequel. C2 easily had many more attendees than C1, and C3 had close to twice as many as C2. (And that is why your lines to get into C3 were so bad lj. It's hard to get 40,000+ people into a convention smoothly when people start lining up hours before the doors open. I had a volunteer badge, so I just walked right in. ) C2's lines were horrible (my friend waited in line for 8 hours to get Carrie Fisher's autograph). But aside from the store line, C3 really wasn't that bad.

I disagree, ferris. If you're posting on this board, you're obviously a Star Wars fan in some capacity. As such, you HAVE to watch it at least once just to know exactly why Lucas once denied it ever existed. I watched it at a Christmas party once. I think we let the tape run all the way through, but as soon as Carrie Fisher started singing, we all left the room.

I've got my Wii hooked up to my THX surround receiver and it sounds great. I'd have to go back and check Zelda and Red Steel again, but I can tell you that Wii Sports makes great use of the surround speakers. Specifically in bowling, when you bowl you can hear the people behind you reacting to your bowl. I always chuckle when a gutter ball is bowled and the people in the background start booing.

I dug up my old CC project and this is what mine looks like. Noise isn't cleaned up as you can see, but my adjustments were made based on the colors and levels of the Japanese Special Collection LD.

Edit: In checking what I actually adjusted, it appears all I did was set saturation at 82%, adjust gamma and pedestal for the midtones, and adjust gain and gamma for the shadows.

Calibrate your monitor. Buy a new one if yours sucks. Don't convert your footage into another lossy codec for editing. (Work in a lossless codec if you're going to alter your footage, then re-encode.)

Edit: Oh, and know how to properly encode your video back to MPEG2. Master your software. All the work you've done will be for nothing if your encode turns out looking like crap.
