No offense, but the reason why nobody responded was because we don't like divulging how far along we are. If you've followed this thread, you'll notice that we've never divulged the status of our project. Why? Because when you're under a microscope and people demand progress and one of your partners has a serious illness and other members are experiencing troubles at certain points in time, progress doesn't happen. Coordinating work between 4 people who live in different countries takes a lot of time and money.

What if I told you we were 1% complete? What if I told you we finished last summer and we've been sitting on a preservational gold mine ever since? Would you feel any better knowing that we still haven't released it? I'll humor you for a second though.

Asking me to give you a rough percentage of how far along we are would be a little complicated. How much of the DC is cleaned up? Most of it. How much color correction is done? Most of it. How much of the SC is cleaned up? Some of it. How much has been put through the Black Magic process? Not sure.

So let's see. If you add all that up, adjust for inflation, multiply by pi, and divide by the gross national product, I think somebody owes me a grande mint cocoa from Starbuck's.

But really, don't ask that question. I have a month off from school and I'll be damned if you guys won't get an update or three over the next two weeks.

Great episode. I never thought we'd see Ben flashbacks. lol at his dad being Uncle Rico.

The whole Jacob thing was kind of hokey though. I'm going to speculate that Ben is either making it up or he's delusional. What we know for sure is that Ben is a psycho and really is evil. Whether the rest of them are or not is debatable.

I don't know if I'm with you on that one, but that's a great theory. Eye patch man definitely has some larger role to play I think.

My theory: they're not dead. The plane wreckage was a cover-up by Dharma/The Others. We'll know what's up with "the box" and how Ben is manipulating everything after tonight.

....then again we could get an "insert" episode narrated by Boone about what the hell Rose and Bernard have been doing all season. If they get buried alive too I'll shoot someone.

24p- Why, again?

Mostly it's to save space and allow you to encode at a higher bit rate. But if the playback device is progressive, that's one less step the hardware has to do.

What kind of artifacts are you getting? Macro blocks or something similar? That shouldn't be caused by any IVTC process but perhaps somewhere else in your workflow.

The Now-Released Spider-Man 3 Thread
Time
From what my friends tell me of the comic books, it was supposed to be like this. But the middle of the film with Peter acting all kooky was just too over the top for me. It went on too long and it just felt like we had entered a completely different movie. The jazz club scene capping it off was beyond overkill at that point.

And is it just me, or did the line, "now I'm gonna kick your little ass" seem totally unfitting for this movie to anyone else?

I would personally like to add that I dont think 'Custom DVD' is fitting, Zion. - it has had alot of restoration work on it on both Video and Audio. Video has been added and retouched to make the series uncut, and fix the bizarre mistakes - like some episodes missing sections upto 30 seconds or so, strange interlacing issues, the audio is unavailable on any other release in the world, and believe me, it wasn't just a straight rip and drop, sections were missing and had to use other sources everything - every bloody bit - had to be restored, the whole project was a massive jigsaw puzzle.

Believe me, I totally appreciate what you've done for this release and I understand that it was a tremendous undertaking. But the fact remains that your video is based on officially released DVDs - albeit not English versions, but official releases nonetheless. That makes this a custom DVD project.

You've done a great job on this project CW and I commend you on your work.

And just to clarify, discussion of this project is OK to continue. Just do not discuss where it is being distributed.

Very interesting pics there Belbucus. Unfortunately I don't know enough about telecine transfers to provide an intelligent response. Though I bet Laserman would love to share his thoughts when he gets back from his hiatus. Looking at those pics, the canyon does definitely look darker. Though to me it looks like those images have a very low tonal range. Whites and blacks are crushed and there isn't much midrage. For example, in the image with the Stormtroopers, the brightness of the sky and sand in the middle of the frame is overblown, and yet the leather pouches on the trooper's shoulder are completely dark. Does that mean the image of the canyon is darker than what was actually seen the the theater that day? Maybe, maybe not.

What I know is that for the 1986 laserdisc release of Star Wars, these scenes shot "day for night" look more like daytime shots, and in 1993 they look like nighttime shots. Were these shots adjusted in 1993 to match the original print or was this another "deliberate creative decision"? I don't know the answer to that question, but here are a couple other things I've noticed that differ in between the JSC and the DC/Faces/GOUT:

SC-DC Comparison

The '93 versions have a different fade out and fade in from the part where 3PO says, "Why I should stick my neck out for you..." to "Thank the Maker!". The fade out beginning at 01:19:28:18 (X0 TC Print time) happens about 30 frames sooner on the SC. Why does this happen? Your guess is as good as mine.

Additionally, in the shot of 3PO being lowered into the oil bath, the lights on the back wall actually change color on the '93 versions, but not on the SC. This is the exact same shot though, so there was obviously some sort of additional color timing done to this shot. It makes one wonder if the color changes to the canyon shots were done after the fact as well - as in these were not present on the original film print.

Remove Voice
Time
Even if you used a band pass filter and took that range out of the audio signal, you're probably still going to hear resonance and other effects of the voice in the remaining audio frequency range. Unfortunately, removing voice completely from an audio stream is far from a simple process - if it can be done at all.
