The Wal-Mart $6.88 Bin: What Bargains Have You Found?
Time
I don't really buy DVDs just for the hell of it. I pretty much only get titles that I deem worthy of my (goofy) DVD collection and that I'll watch multiple times. I also already have about every title I've ever wanted.

That being said, if there's a movie I want to see, I'll check bargain bins before I rent it. I wanted to see the original Assault on Precinct 13 before seeing the update. I found it for 5.99 at Best Buy. That beats the hell out of renting it at my crappy Blockbuster.

Sequels that should never be...
Time
I'm not really into horror movies (nor the Jason movies) but I'm certainly not against it. Could give the series a fresh breath of air. What confuses me is that since Kill Bill 2, I've heard Taratino's next project will be:

1) Kill Bill prequel/sequel
2) "Inglorious Bastards" (WW2 movie)
3) Vega Brothers movie
4) Kung-Fu movie in Mandarin
5) Casino Royal
6) Sin City
7) CSI

Obviously some of these are rumors and others have been refuted, but it just seems like he comes up with an idea for his next project only to have it replaced by a new idea shortly thereafter. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if 3 weeks from now his next project will be something totally new and Friday the 13th will all but be forgotten.

Aye Ric beat me.

The control scheme really works perfectly fine. It's hard to expain, but it works. In fact I can't ever remember having a problem with it at all during a battle. I guess it has something to do with the fact that you aren't on a 3D plane like Unreal Tournement or something. There's not a whole lot going to the sides of you, since Samus is usually in rooms/corridors. Just stop asking questions and get the damn game.

In my estimation, Metroid Prime (one) is the second best overall game GC game out there. Given that you can get it for around 15 beans, you should definitely pick it up. As far as the gameplay goes, it's pretty solid (esp the jumping) but it doesn't necessarily follow your classic FPS conrol scheme, so it may take some getting used to. The icing on the cake for me was the presentation. The graphics, story, music, level design, ect all gave me that old Metroid vibe.

That's probably the exact issue. Here's most likely how it went down when making Forza Racing, Project Gotham Racing 2, ect:

Microsoft Guy 1: hey we can throw in this great new graphics engine with really cool lighting effects!

Microsoft Guy 2: Uh, sounds good. But won't that make the game run a dismally slow 30 fps?

Microsoft Guy 1: But it'll have great graphics!

Microsoft Guy 2: Uh, but when you're supposedly driving at 180 mph, wouldn't the extra frames be helpful when negotiating turns? Won't they crash?

Microsoft Guy 1: People won't care when they see the graphics!

Microsoft Guy 2: Brilliant!

Microsoft Guy 1: Brilliant!

THE PSYCHO REVIEW
Time
Thanks, GundarkHunter.

I was afraid of that. I only checked one site, but they too hinted that it wasn't a new transfer. Oh well. It's one of my favorite films of all time, but I think I might just stick with the old dvd ( or at least until the new one is 10 bucks at Circuit City or whathaveyou).

The Essentials (films)
Time
I would add This is Spinal Tap for sure.

Also, I would like to give a special mention to Big Trouble in Little China. While hardly the best film ever made, it is special in its own rite. If you are looking for a film that defines a genre, it really is the quintesential "B-movie". It's funny, incredibly original, has great writing and directing (I like how Carpenter's score matches what's going on onscreen to a 'T') all while not taking itself too seriously. It just executes on the highest level for what it's trying to do, so I'd call it an essential.
