Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Looking at Jaitea's picture, I thought it may be the way to go but then I compared it to the original and it's just too different, I could almost just use the SE shot that way.

Anyway, here's the video comparison:

I think you did an amazing job there. I definitely prefer the newer version, since it seems to have more detail and the matte also seems to be more stable or something (but I may be really wrong). It still doesn't look the best, but hey, it was a painting, I bet even the original had its sweet faults.

Storm Troopers weren't Clones. They were new recruits trained by them.

Please tell me where in the movies is this established.

EU. That's only if u keep up with it.

Yeah well, lets just assume that I am an average movie fan who has no time or interest in reading through all of those attempts to make up for Lucas' errors. If he indeed wanted his audience to know that stromtrooper != clonetrooper, a simple line about new recruits being trained spoken by pretty much anyone anywhere in ROTS (exept for that young padawan before he gets killed, that would be a bit out of place) would easily establish that.

Well, that's your loss then isn't it?

Hardly. I honestly don't care about anything prequel related, but lets assume George tried to make these films for a broad audience, not just himself and that Rick MacGollum guy who is convinced Lucas found cure for cancer. I am merely arguing (once again, just 'cause that's what I do best) that he failed miserably (once again).

What are you talking about?! The Fett Clones were cool! Man, people complain that they don't have enough Fett so GL makes a bunch of clones and you're still not happy.

I think the main problem here is that we are led to believe that the stormtroopers from the OT are actually clones. Those super elite Mandalorian bounty hunter troops that barely hit anything in the OT... And you have to do a LOT of retconing to make this work.

Sorry, maybe this post was not necessary. Sometimes I wonder - are your posts serious? Because if not, that would certainly explain a lot...

Why not meet somewhere in the middle? I mean, to reduce the amount of the shake so it doesn't jump into one's eyes (then it'd be just right).

That would be wrong because the result would be neither entirely stable, nor true to the original.

I support Harmy's decision to apply the shake from PG, which is to me a pretty reliable source. I honestly doubt anyone who saw the original print of the movie would try to notice and remember how much the subtitles shake in this particular scene.

I really like that Harmy is leaning more and more towards restoring the original to a great detail, while the viewing experience comes second. I personally can't wait for this version of despecialised edition, even though I had my problems with the first version (very minor nitpicks, I hate myself for that), most of which will apparently be fixed for this one.

Just Star Wars Infinities 1-3

The crappy "alternate trilogy" that read like bad fanfiction written by a PT fanboy? Really?

Of course not, geez.

I guess it will be the OUT and some selected EU material. I liked especially the X-Wing book series (fabulous), Shadows Of the Empire (pretty good), Han Solo Trilogy (quite alright) and the first installment of Dark Empire.

Pro Tip: Until you've established a reputation as never being serious (i.e. like I have), use a winky.

;-) <-------winky

Will do, Frink, my personal internet comic hero :)

Star Wars: Renascent *** NOW AVAILABLE!!! ***
Time

Well, this one pits my favourite movie of the saga against the one I genuienly despise. Sorry, I had to stop halfway in, I really hate "episode 2" so much. I didn't notice any major technical issues, but while this is an interesting concept, it doesn't really work for me. Why? Because the two movies are simply nothing alike. While one throws you right into one brainless action sequence after another, the other one starts slowly, to carefully introduce its characters at first. As a result, I was annoyed when episode 2 showed up, and Star Wars then almost bored me, which is just sad.

Regarding your musical additions, I mostly liked those. You managed to pick the right music for its respective scenes and it felt quite refreshing. The title text-screens i didn't like that much, but that may be because I am simply not able to accept an alternative to good ol' SW crawly :)

I did however watch the prologue feature on the second disc and I liked it. There were some nice choices there, I especially liked the use of Ian McDiarmid's naration. The narative of the prologue felt alright, maybe slightly all over the place at times, it could benefit from some more trimming, but overall, I liked it much more then the main feature.

Sorry for the criticism, I really hope you continue to make fanedits, as I said, this was an interesting experiment, the bad thing with experiments is, however, that you just can't please everyone :)

Because all those people who liked STAR WARS before 1997 liked the original versions, an easy way to please all of the would have been not to make any changes. What is so hard to understand about that?

Star Wars is still going strong today with the clone wars cartoon series and the blu-ray release and the 3-D release coming soon. Their are people who still like star wars.

Alright, unless I see some sort of medical report, you are one crazy loonie, as far as I am concerned.

But you entertain me :)

And as you admit here, you support anything GL does. That's simply dogmatic and blind to reason. We're not people who dislike Star Wars. We're just honest people who aren't afraid of critiquing poor decisions.

We have no reason to defend or support anything GL does. Only those who wish to maintain an income at LFL do.

Why do some of you wine and complain every time GL makes a change to the films? He has a right to change his films sure some of them are not good you can't please everyone. Sure not everyone is not going to like the changes but it the changes don't take away my enjoyment of the films.

Alright, I guess it calls for this again:

  • The sound for those little video clips of all 6 films on the star wars youtube channel just don't sound right. The little video clips on the starwars aficionado blogspot site and on the walmart site sound so much better. Those audio from those youtube clips will not be how it will sound when the final blu-ray's come out in September.

But seriously, if the changes, however terrible, don't take away your enjoyment of the films, good for you, even though I suspect you would worship a turd if it had STAR WARS written on it.

Of course Lucas has a right to do whatever he wants to the films, but it would be nice if he respected his fans and the people who helped him become what he is. Of course there is no law that would prevent him from doing that, but then again, infidelity is also not considered illegal in most countries, yet we generally consider it a bad thing to do.

Enough of the GL bashing. Seriously is that all some of you do? If it was not for GL their would not be anything star wars. After all he is the one created the whole saga. We need to at least respect the fact he did made these films and not bash him everytime he makes a change to the films. But everyone has a right to their opinion about the changes to the films some like them some don't.

Ken, did you know that...

Being angry about it won't solve anything. I'm not angry about it sure I would like to have them the UOT released on blu-ray someday but it is not a deal breaker for me.

Are you, by any chance, related to a person named Olié?

About LFL - either they are indeed a bad company consisting of bunch of amateurs or they are fucking liars (lairs, for mentally challenged). These are the only two possible explenations of their (mostly Lucas') claim that the cleaned up original footage has been altered without backing up the original form. Who does that? Someone, who has no clue what they are doing.
