Anyone see ER last week (11-02-06)? RE: Padme's death
Time
Maybe it could happen though I've never heard of it in terms of real life... but I'm still of the opinion that the body doesn't work that way. If it's physically in good condition why would it stop functioning? It conflicts in my brain with the idea that some people can be kept alive even when they're brain dead.

In padme's case, it wasn't just that, but everything about Padme from eps 1 to 2 shows she's not one to die so easily and supposedly cares about things greater than just her and anakin. she even says "you're going down a path i can't follow" right? I can't remember exactly... haven't seen that movie in months. So her just going dead after fighting wars, surviving assasinations, and having two healthy kids just seemed ridiculous and completely against who she was supposed to be to me. In the end, I conclude that time was short and GL was in a rush to end everything in five minutes... A veteran of the clone wars dies not fighting for anything, just giving up. Kinda sad really but not the way it was intended.

edit: that's what I think too, mr. bungle. Padme is presented as a fighter so her dying due to Anakin's crazy insane force choke would have been so much more dramatic than suicide, the cowardly way out.

Oh now I remember exactly why this part always made me say WTF. Padme says "there's still good in him." right before she dies. So why does she die if there's still good in him? Bad writing as usual I guess.

Still, I look forward to those great pt edits that'll try to salvage Lucas' mess.

Yeah I was sitting there with my popcorn watching that and thinking "yeah this is actually pretty good. Maybe George finally redeem..." then Yoda just had to bash us over the head with how he's hanging with Chewie... I wanted to leave so badly after that. It numbed my brain that no one saw this scene at Skywalker ranch and tapped george on his shoulder to say "hey, uh, I know you sign my checks but seriously, this is a little too ridiculous don't you think? Out of the millions of wookies in the galaxy, yoda would know the one wookie that Obi and luke meet randomly in a bar? Come on..."

Opinion Poll on Go-Mer-Tonic

There's always someone who feels guilty for gomer at a forum he does this shit on. "He's not a troll..." etc. ... I feel the deja vu all over again. Ok, hear me out and then I'm done with gomer once and for all. And this'll be locked etc, life goes on.

Unbelievably I've known this troll for 7 years of my life and you'd have to be truly blind not to see why he's here signed up the day the dvds were released and not from years back to supposedly "help us get what we want." He's a lucas fanatic and could care less about this site's cause. God, I can't believe I'm still on the internet posting at a forum with this bastard. I'm not ignorant to his views and can respect another person's opinion but think about it; ceaselessly loving the smell of lucas' farts is ridiculously annoying and he knows it. I'd love to see him stop acting like a child actually. My brain tells me it's impossible, no genuine star wars fan would do it, but after seeing what he posts here recently and what he posts at ign, I've concluded he hates the original star wars movies as much as Lucas.

But whatever. I can't understand such a person. It's like going to a MLK site and saying white power.

And star wars deserves the best quality possible. It's disgusting that Anal fantasy porn films are in better quality than the Original trilogy. The question is not why are people still complaining about the OT on dvd, but is to me, "why wasn't the OT given the treatment it deserves?" There are box office bombs and direct to video movies in better quality. Come. on.

McCallum on Jar Jar & Kids before TPM came out

Now I'm sorry Evil, but I have to disagree.

Ewan really somehow pulled off his character even under George's non-direction. It makes me even more sorry that he was stuck with such a stupid story... I don't know what that guy ate for breakfast or how much he was getting paid but he rose above the shit he was in and delivered on a level I personally didn't get from anyone else in any of those movies, real emotion, real heart, real intensity. Of course the gusher squad will tell you that everyone acted so stiff and dull like keanu Reeves in the PT because that's just how people back then acted, but all one needs to do is watch Ewan perform to know that that's not true and is just another in a long list of excuses they use to cover up Lucas' bad direction. Ewan deserved some kind of award.

Ian, I think was the only other OT actor besides JEJ and Daniels to return and he was ok except for when he went nuts and became a goofy clown unlimited powaaah . Still he maintained some of the integrity of his OT performance so he's commendable for that...

But JEJ, what the hell happened man? Please tell me that JEJ didn't really come back and that was just some guy trying to impersonate him...

The rest, especially Ahmed Best should be ashamed of themselves.

Good grief, this guy... good grief.

oh and yeah, a lot of old ideas were re-used for the PT, as is evident in the title of Revenge of the sith which was originally Revenge of the Jedi for the OT but was changed. So we can see where lucas got the idea for that. Also some planets and such were around from the first draft of star wars, I think. Unfortunately his CGI obsession overtook his better judgment and he went crazy with it.

Anyway it won't work no matter how you spin and twist it, the two trilogies will never be one or else Vader might dance over to his old droid pal and reminise over the good ol days when his head was swapped with a battle droid's, oh it was such a drag. Oh don't even get me started on Obi-wan's problems. GL will of course keep trying to force the OT into continuity with the PT though and further degrade the original's quality again and again. Boba and Shaw were only the beginning. It's all moot isn't it with GL constantly changing the movies.

my memory isn't that bad, is it? (in SW '77 - Luke misses with the grappling hook?)

Maybe it was a special edition change or something but I do remember this happening on a tv broadcast during the 90s. It was on WPIX channel 11 here in New York and I remember it was during the summer and I was cleaning my room while watching star wars... *shrug* as we all know, movies are edited differently for broadcast so maybe somebody slipped it in there... who knows...

As far as not accepting something as cannon, that was never up to me in the first place. This is Lucas party and he gets to say what is and isn't canon in the universe that he originally created.

But remember, your focus determines your reality. Fans can choose themselves what is canon to them and what isn't. I choose to pretend the prequels don't exist. They are not canon for me, personally. All that is canon is three great films from the golden age of moviemaking. Your focus determines your reality.

And you're statement might be the most contradictory statement I've ever read. Lucas saying what is canon in the universe he originally created? If he adds stuff in later, it is not what was canon in the universe originally created.

Don't forget the Holiday Special.

McCallum on Jar Jar & Kids before TPM came out
Time
Where to begin....

So are we to believe TPM would have been this dark adult porn film kids would have avoided if some dumbass cartoon weren't in 95% of the movie?

No that's stupid. Suddenly all these jedi lightsabers and spaceships and shit aren't there anymore to entertain kids????? Am I missing something? Do we need a retarded Jamaican steryotype character to be farted on, step in shit, get kicked in the balls and cater to the lowest common denominator for humor? THANK GOD GL couldn't accomplish this back in 77.... LORD FORBBID he'd have to rely on intelligent writing and good acting to entertain our kids!

Jar Jar is so obviously just Lucas' CGI demo that it makes TPM unwatchable for me. It hurts the most because we're given some sweet heavenly minutes at the beginning of the film without him that I miss that feeling later on when it was just me obiwan, and quigon doing jedi stuff... Watching gl on the dvd as he takes out his marker and looks at the storyboards marking jar jar again and again for inclusion into practically every scene makes me so very sick. The idea to sacrafice the story's integrity to pander to some 5 yearold who likes poop jokes makes me fucking sick... First Kids like anything that isn't outright adult and scary. But kids like me would not want our intelligences insulted by this moronic creation. George saw Who framed Roger Rabbit and basically said to himself "I've got to try that." It backfired in his face so to save ticket sales he lessened the role down to an out of the way little side role in the second one IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THAT WAY FROM THE START and then just nothing in the end proving jar jar haters right that that cartoon should have been dropped during the concept stage. Of course that pointless Grievous character is another matter entirely. MORE cgi demos from Lucas...

Just ignore the stupidity.

I think Lucas did an admirable job of making the prequels fit in with the classic trilogy.

I think he did a better job of that than he did at making ESB and ROTJ fit in with ANH.

Go-Mer, that statement takes away what little credibility you had left. CGI yoda and puppet yoda work better than puppet yoda and puppet yoda? Padme dying but Leia remembering her? Jedi not becoming one with the force after death? You've got to be shitting me.

Agreed though I do enjoy some of it... I consider the PT to be EU as well.

Yes, and I shouldn't even have to explain why. Just watch the OT. The originals, not the SE. Lucas trys to connect the two trilogies but of course the man doesn't know his own story well enough and inconsistancies are too numerous even with actors cut and pasted over the original ones.

Cut out the robot gags during the jedi and r2 battles. They're just toy commercials with no impact on the story so snip snip.

I'd have only Anakin battle Dooku instead of that retarded 'obiwan gets knocked out' cop-out. Did Lucas not realize he was just repeating what he did at the end of AotC only with Obi-wan unconscious. It was ridiculous and bad for obiwan's character to show him be so easily defeated. The whole PT makes no sense really but this particularly irks me because I'm a fan of Ewan and I don't like to see him become such a pussy so early in the film. But there's nothing one can do to fix it... Once again Obiwan's no match for the mighty force push. Just needed to get that out of my system.

Thankfully jar jar's nothing but an extra but if you find a shot with him in it, I won't miss it if it's gone.

Yoda and Chewie adventures. Nuff Said.

Parts of Palpatine's dialogue during the opera scene need to go. Talk of midichlorians is unnecessary here, it just seems to me like GL trying to find some way to make that shit relevant again. This line is more retarded than usual : "the dark side has many pathways to abilities some consider to be unnatural." To whom, jedi who can move things with their minds?

ANY of the crappy love scenes Lucas decided to bore us with again.

It might not be possible to do but I'd love it if somehow lessen Yoda's lightsaber time during his duel with Palpatine. I like the idea of them just showcasing their mastery of the force rather than appeasing fanboys by bashing each other with glow sticks, plus it just looks ridiculous to me. check the sig.

Get rid of the droid saying padme's physically fine but is losing the will to live. How silly a thing to say. Make her die from childbirth like it was predicted. It's difficult to believe since here on earth with good medical care, chance of dying during birth is slim, but it's the best we've got to help explain her exit from starwars besides it being some nonsense about losing the will to live. Might as well have said Anakin's midichlorians killed her... This woman fought a war; she was a ruler of billions. Grow a goddam spine you embarrassment to the strong female character that came out of your vagina...

Because that's apparently the way it is around here lately. Only George is the devil. Everybody else has "legitimate" reasons or "inoffensive" changes that "actually improve" the movie, while George's changes are horrible and wrong because of our subjective stance and love for Star Wars.

Just wait. Within five minutes, somebody's going to post something in Spielberg's defense about E.T., which is always the same defense. For the last time, people, if you're against changes being made in movies (or any type of art) be consistent! You can't just say one man's changes suck simply because you think they suck. A change is a change is a change, and if you don't like one of them based on that principle, you can't seriously be in favor of others.

Yes, the changes in E.T. sucked. Sucked hard. But Spielberg did give fans an extremely good version of the original on DVD, so in my book, he gets a pass on that one. Close Encounters, I really don't know what to say about, having never seen the film, but if he hasn't ever released the theatrical version, he certainly should.

I don't think that Lucas is the only one at fault for changing his films. Why I think he's worse then all the others is that he does it once every few years, and then feeds us bullshit about "it was always this way" and then releases them on DVD a million fricking times. When he finally did release the original theatrical versions, he did it in a low quality way as a "Fuck you" to OOT fans. Lucas is much worse then Spielberg in my book, even though they both change thier films. Spielberg does respect his fans, and if he ever does release the original version of CE3K, you can bet your ass it'll be high quality.

In the end, yes, changes are changes, but I'm really okay with directors altering thier films, as long as they release the original version in a high quality way, and don't disrespect the fans constantly. It gets ridiculous when directors constantly alter thier films like Lucas and then double dip like crazy. Peter Jackson altered LOTR for DVD with the Extended Edition, but released both versions in high quality and let the public decide which version to watch. In my opinion, his changes (additions) were vast improvments. If the Star Wars special editions had actually enhanced the films, I'd watch those, but yes, I'd still want the original unaltured versions preserved.

I'm not saying that only George is the devil for changing his films, but he is to an extent for the way he treats the films and his fans.

Well said.

Lucas is the most obsessive filmmaker I've ever seen in my life up to this point. Every time he markets the dvds as the final version he always wanted, it's pure bullshit. That's why I'll never buy another starwars movie from him ever again.

true he's one of those reviewers who gives you a summary of the film while sharing his thoughts on it, but I think the key difference is that he's reviewing the media... bla but what does it matter. What's done is done.

And to add to my previous rambling post...

Oh damnit I predicted my mother would die and she did. It's all obi-wan's fault althouth he didn't do anything that would kill my mother. The sandpeople who did actually do it were all under obiwan's control I guess. Now I'm worried that my wife will die even though for two whole movies people have been trying to kill her but somehow she's escaped death. I should be assured that she's not going to die so easily.

After battling for naboo (bless you), fighting during the clone wars, surviving from a fall out of a ship, and escaping assasination attempts on her life through decoys and jedi help, Padme Naberrie Amidala Skywalker dies for

absolutely no reason.

Thank you and goodnight.
