Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (* unfinished project *)
Time
Sounds like a cool and challenging project. I haven't seen the movie yet, but from what reaction's I've read, someone like me (casual fan of the franchise really, never actually beat ff7 or played a ff game since then) won't really 'get' it or whatever that means. If I am able to understand your version, then consider your mission accomplished.

Episode I Digital Yoda Images!!!!
Time
Unfortunately we have to face the fact that the new OT as they call it is a fossilized version and not the real bones from nearly three decades ago or so. What's important though is to preserve the structure of the beast and not add a finger or an extra tooth anywhere just because you feel like it. Lucas would probably rather throw the fossil in the trash and create a digital model of it instead.

Which is fine. But with his digital models come extra teeth and more fingers that were never there and don't look natural on something that wasn't meant to have them.

What this silly analogy is trying to get at is how inconsequential this change is compared to what GL has done to the OT. I think the Pt was a failure. it didn't even explain threepio's leg, and that sort of thing was really all it had on its plate. And it couldn't handle it. F-

Now that might make me a wee bit bias in my definition of what deserves preservation, but truly this Yoda-facelift isn't going to the same degree as han shoots first or many of the other stupid changes so, it gets an ok from me.

***The "Darth Editous" Episode IV DVD Info and Feedback Thread*** - a partially "de-specialed" DVD
Time
Remarkable. I love what you've done with some of my fav film's most embarassing bits. I'm stunned by some of what I'm seeing here so far.

If there's a bright center to star wars trilogy dvd replacements, it's this one. (Edit: just noticed something. right about when wedge leaves the death star battle and vader says "let him go. Stay on the leader" You can see Vader's eye behind the mask.. forgive me if this has already been brought to your attention)

I've never sent out dvds before, but if there's a will, there's a way, as the saying goes. And I don't live too far from the post office. I'm in the Bronx, NY if you're 'desperate' and can't get it through newsgroups, pm me and maybe we can work something out. I have some dvdr's here by my desk that have nothing to do today.

This must be seen. So torrents, postage, anything. I'm willing to share.

thanks and applause for this, DE. You're a wonderful human being.

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
impressive.

i'll be keeping an eye on this project. Hayden's voice has always annoyed me in these two movies. I'd love to hear, for once, the Anakin Luke dreamed about all his life, instead of this whiny bast.. guy.

Edit: Is that your voice? Wow....nice. I've got a ray romano thing going on myself... . Though I can do a near perfect bill cosby, eric cartman, zorak, fozzy, kermit and Yoda and a little sam l jackson, but only when he's yelling.

Episode 3: Fan Editing Ideas Discussion
Time
That sounds excellent. I'd love to actually see the dueling instead of a blur of motion with the occasional saber twirling. After the TPM duel with maul, I don't know what Lucas was thinking when he decided to edit this. He already got it right...

R2's hero moments getting the spotlight during a flippnig WAR! comes off out of place. Anakin smirking at the camera and saying han's lines for no better reason than to try to be like han solo is distracting. Redundancy, the whole part with the buzz droids, stupid, imagine jedi need droids to get rid of little floating robot things. come on.... R2 forgetting he has the power to cling to a ship's surface is stupid, setting aside what happens in esb since that's years away and maybe he wanted a swim...?

Dooku knowing or even caring who skywalker is without any indication that he'd ever would in the previous movie just seems stupid. lol, there's stupid all over this thing. cheerleader palpatine, etc... good lordy this will be a chore. good luck, editors. You're gonna need it...

I like the idea of grievous being a rebuilt Maul. It's just so incredibly stupid that these jedi knights, with the force as their ally, would just rather hack the stupid magna droids to pieces and waste their time when they could disarm them and throw them into a wall or whatever. look at what obi did in episode 1 as a padawan. One wave of his hand and three dumb droids flew off their feet. Unless they have shields I suppose they're defensless against force attacks.

The Official Greencapt 'Batman & Robin: De-Assified' Edit thread (Released)
Time
Thanks for the Par2 files. And Wow, thanks for this edit. I used to own and watch the original along with the other bat films all the time. Not only was this version tolerable, but I actually found myself enjoying it. You probably already know about the little cutting kinks and the robin signal thing. I myself already knew what was supposed to go down there so it wasn't a bother. I've actually tried a bit at editing old cartoons and know how incredibly difficult this can be. But this is remarkable, a must for anyone dissapointed, or disgusted, by the original. Probably everyone.

It's fascinating how much cooler batman is as a quiet, hard-hitting soldier rather than what he was before. Even more fascinating, no scratch that, un-fudging believable, is that Robin works since he's a team mate and not a competitor, and that's one of the things that sucked about the original version. too much bickering between them and I'm so glad it got chopped out.

Begrudgingly, I do miss some parts of the original cut for some strange reason. Bruce and Alfred's scenes together were my fav bits from the original. I gotta say I missed bane's involvement in the rest of the story too. He just dropped out of it after breaking freeze from arkham asylum. Now how he was used was stupid to begin with so perhaps its best he was left out of the rest.

I'm really in awe of what I just watched. It's given me a little more respect for Clooney's batman and O'donnell's robin. I think both were well cast anyway, but as we saw, they unfortunately were trapped inside a sinking ship. Now I know it didn't have to.

Thanks for sharing this look past the ass with us.

Poll: who is hotter. Padme or Princess Leia
Time
oh so angelic... anakin, I envy you...

What happened here? ahhh

Leia. Queen Amidalalalalala Straberry Patmee Senator Skywalker or whatever her name is can't compete with the galaxy's galactic beauty, Princess Leia.

On that note, I can't believe Natalie wasn't dropped after episode 1 and replaced with either Keira or Rose. Both look enough like Fisher, resemble actual adults.

Editing Episode II: Is there a great film there?
Time
The backbone of every star wars experience (that's right, experience) is the music. And it's no secret that burtt and lucas butchered Williams' masterpieces when they glued together their special and sound fx tests and dared to call it a movie.

I'd join the dark side to see the entire pt fixed properly. No farting. No midichlorians. Effective editing. And spot on perfect musical harmony in every scene...

bliss.

Lucas prequel decisions in hindsight
Time
I think eyecandy and john williams create that effect. Of course there are other factors such as hype and nostalgia and the OT's existence, but eyecandy and John williams is where it all begins. They can only cover up so many weak spots with them though...The stunts, music and visuals were brilliant. Williams, ILM and the stunt guys did what Lucas did not, and that was actually put an effort into creating something unforgettable and top quality. What brings them down is their creator unfortunately. Even more, the films were altered for the dvd so the original releases don't exist anymore... but no one cares to preserve them anyway... Where the films fail is at their heart. the main story is so dull and badly acted that none of the amazing visuals could save it on repeat viewings. All the little winks at the fans didn't help at all either. Star wars tales should be an escape into another galaxy far far away.... not filled with referrences to 'films' from decades ago. boba fett as kid was dumb, chewbacca being in ep 3 was dumb, threepio being built by anakin was dumb... etc. cameo etc. blatant forshadowing etc.... there's so much more to loath.

I've read on several sites now that Hayden's so monotone because he's imitating vader. I guess he was imitating him in Life as a House too. That dialogue coach really worked wonders in episode 3 for hayden. Natalie still gave a terrible performance and some believe star wars deserves better than that near-fanfilm quality... not just the acting, but the editing, and dialogue too... heck, the whole thing... scrap it and start over, I say.

I love the clone wars cartoons. If that had been re-worked into episodes 1 and 2, pulling plot elements from both and incorporating them into the story of the clone wars, with a stable main bad guy throughout all three films like dooku in it who then gets killed in the last one and replaced by vader... This new trilogy would have had a chance of surpassing the original.

The secret to immortality shouldn't seem like some throw-away afterthought at the end of this trilogy, but it did. And that's thanks to inept storytelling, wasting time to tell stories about podracing, tax disputes and midichlorian counts...

I hope that someone, maybe Lucas's son, will remake the PT some day. Like Lucas' says the OOT was about, "the children redeem their father's mistakes." or something like that.

Things you DID like about Episode III
Time
I liked the parts that weren't made to sell action figures or filled with carelessly written dialogue. I liked those more intimate moments between Anakin and Obi-wan, the part near the starship port where they said their goodbyes, the talk anakin had with Yoda in the meditation room... Palpatine revealing himself to Anakin, Padme realizing Obi-wan is going to kill him... brilliant. If there's ever a reason to buy one of these prequel movies beyond the wizzy sparkly sfx, it's all in this one. I can't wait to see the edited versions with all the cringe worthy moments chopped out...

Info: "Faster More INTENSE" - TheADigitalMan Edits (AOTC)
Time

Hello everyone. I took GL’s advise…

So the adigital man dvd special edited edition of AotC I was downloading finally finished. Now I’ve seen magnoliafan’s which was just excellent and so watching this, I felt like trying something a little different. I opened the dvd file in power dvd and using the scroll button on my mouse, gave the movie a .5 speed boost during the slower parts and during some of the action scenes.

IT was AWESOME. Jango’s gun was crazy. THE war and lightsaber battles were intense! I wish they’d speed up all these sequences in future editions. Even some of the dialogue by hayden christensen and natalie portman was made better with a little boost in speed. (think mark hamill and carrie fisher, how fast they spoke in the originals)

the faster, more intense pt was awesome. I’m going to try this with return of the jedi and see what happens.
