STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

Which parts do you guys feel the Imperial March would work well? While I love the Imperial March, I much prefer the intro music when he first boards the Tantive and I can’t think of any other parts where changing out the bits of score or silence (in regards to the score) for Imperial March would be an improvement and wouldn’t actually detract from how those scenes are received by the viewer. Below is a collection of all the Darth scenes from ANH if you wanted to point to any time stamps where you think Imperial March would fit better:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYZdQRUU5IA

I guess I find it hard myself to imagine ANH with Imperial March in it as the theatrical of ANH is burned into my memory and I essentially consider it perfect as is (all the while knowing it is not a perfect movie). All the scenes with Vader don’t feel to me like they would be improved simply through the insertion of Imperial March.

“Everyone” didn’t. A lot of people complained about the humor in TFA, and it’s one of the aspects that gets trimmed a bunch in most fan edits.

Besides, the humor in TLJ takes a different approach than the humor in TFA for the most part ( suddenly being a punching bag, meta jokes like the iron gag - hell, the movie starts with a “yo momma” joke).

It’s less complaining that there is humor and more complaining about the type of humor.

Spot on.

The future of OT.com - UPDATE: Please donate!
Time

I can understand you wanting to move on from something that has become a financial burden Jay, I didn’t realise it was costing you that much to keep this place running from month to month. Though it is a real shame you won’t be getting involved in discussions anymore, reading many of your posts while banned is part of what actually made me want to try and return to being an active member here and I was actually looking forward to being part of a number of topic discussions that you were actively involved in yourself. I had actually thought stepping out of the ownership role and just to tech support would take a lot of weight off of your shoulders in being able to post and remain active in the community. I don’t know the reasons as to why this is not the case but I am disappointed that we’ll no longer have your voice around here.

In any event, it would be a sad day if this place were to suddenly cease to exist so I’ve just made a lump donation to hopefully go towards the immediate costs while something more sustainable is reached and in that respect, I have also setup a $1 per month automatic donation in the hope that others will do the same and as a combined effort, we can all come together to help keep this place going with minimal cost to the individual.

I haven’t had time to read the thread in full so I’m not sure exactly what other ideas are going around currently but I remember someone suggesting a list which I think is a good idea. You wouldn’t necessarily need to put names up if you didn’t want to advertise up front who is actually donating (which could lead to some odd situations where people assume favouritism or misconstrue moderation outcomes due to one person being a donator and the other not, resulting in an “us/them” dynamic amongst the community), instead just indicating if 1 of the 75 monthly dollar donation slots is taken or not, so you’ve got a visual indication to the community on how well or badly the site is currently coping with the base funding. If you happened to get over 75 monthly donators then they would spill over into a surplus fund to go to things like new forum features, competition prizes, etc.

So maybe just a stickied thread under the forum announcement area something like the below?

OT.com Donation Status

Base monthly site costs ($75p/month)
Slot 1. Filled
Slot 2. Filled
Slot 3.
Slot 4.
.
.
Slot 75.

Surplus site funds (for new site features, competitions, etc)
Slot 1.

Anthony Daniels tweeted this out earlier today,

https://twitter.com/adaniels3po/status/1092555522765713408?s=21

which means we’re definitely getting some big piece of news this week, even if it’s not the title.

Revenge Of The Droids 😉

I did find it appropriate that they had Tony tweet that out.

Hasn’t it long been assumed that the saga would end with the droids giving their “journal” to the Whills?

George Lucas did say at one point that the only characters that will live throughout the saga would be C-3PO and R2-D2. I really like that, and I believe that Lucasfilm will fulfill that. I believe they will also do the same for the Millennium Falcon by passing it to new generations of characters.

Lucasfilm are definitely upholding George’s statement/wishes for the two droids to be in every saga film though I feel they are only token appearances in the ST, not much above glorified cameos compared to their involvement in the stories throughout the PT and especially the OT. The focus is clearly on BB8 as the new main droid along with the new cast of characters that Disney obviously want to take forward (meaning either more saga films or offshoot character films, otherwise why introduce and focus so heavily on so many new core characters at this point in the saga?). I also felt C3PO was treated rather disrespectfully in TLJ in the manner and tone that Poe told him to shut up.

So even though Lucasfilm are continuing with keeping the two iconic droids in every saga film, I don’t think they’re doing a good job of it.

The Scifi Films and Television of 2019
Time

Not limiting myself to 2019 (since some of it’s still up in the air) but currently most looking forward to the below:

 • Godzilla: King of the Monsters
 • The Expanse Season 4 (though need to watch Season 3 still as well)
 • Altered Carbon Season 2
 • Dune

What do I think about the explosion of Sci-Fi - BLOODY AWESOME! Though any of it on the SyFy channel is now always half expected to be cancelled at anytime before it reaches its logical conclusion, so the excitement is always tinged with trepidation. It just lucky due to its own amazing success that The Expanse was saved in being picked up by Amazon.

^ LOL XD

Fair enough choice on the eyebrows Adywan. I’m interested to know if there is particular reason/s or just your personal preference? (Not to debate, just curious)

The great thing about our situation is that if you prefer eyebrows then we still have Harmy’s DSEs to watch 😛 (hint hint George Lucas and Disney)

The Mandalorian - Star Wars live action TV series : Non Spolier thread
Time

Good to read that someone finally gets it when making new Star Wars under Disney’s watch…the unspecific commentary on what many fans took issue with in TLJ is especially nice to hear. I’m sure he could also just be talking about jokes from a Marvel movie perspective but many people have attributed the humour in TLJ to being Marvel-esque (and therefore tonally out of place within the Star Wars universe):

The Original Trilogy Lives
“Star Wars is very different to Marvel style,” Waititi told press after a TCA panel for the What We Do In the Shadows TV series. “They know that the tone of the first films really should be kind of adhered to. That’s what the fans like and you can’t really disrespect it I guess is a nicer way of saying can’t put too many jokes in. There’s a bit, definitely my tone is in there, the dialogue and stuff like that.”

That’s good news for fans who might have worried a TV series could water down the movies, although nothing could be further from the original tone than the three prequels. Plus, Dave Filoni is involved and he managed consistency with his animated Star Wars shows.

Who says Han wanted to be reassuring ? 😄

Definitely one way it could be taken, especially since the betrayal would still be pretty real and fresh in Han’s mind after being frozen in carbonite till not long before. The fact Lando is obviously there helping with the rescue effort wouldn’t undo the emotional affects of the betrayal.

Ugh, here we go with this again…

WTF are you on about man? I think I know what you’re referring to but it’s got nothing to do with my above comment or this thread.

I find Lando’s “betrayal” to be a misreading of events and it’s a pet peeve of mine.
You brought it up and I made a joke.

Ah k, that makes a bit more sense. I thought you were alluding to events in the random Star Wars pics and gifs thread.

I’m not sure how it is a misreading though of the matter? From the character’s perspective and the audience’s upon first viewing (who know no better at the time), Lando has betrayed them to the Empire. Vader may have arrived before the gang and tied Lando’s hands so to speak but there was nothing stopping Lando from telling Han on the landing pad to turn around and run or try to get some radio message out via his wrist communicator to Lobot as we see him do later on anyway. Sure his life may have been at risk in both situations but allowing the gang to be captured in order to save his own skin is selling out. You might say he has to be responsible for the residents of Cloud City but when he later decides the deal is no longer to his liking, he organised a resistance force and orders the evacuation of the city anyway. Seeing his old friend being tortured and the oppression of the Empire very much in his face probably helped him to change his mind but it doesn’t change the fact that he initially betrayed them.

In any event Han, Leia and Chewie certainly have the initial view point that he has betrayed them (and therefore the audience) with Han being tortured and Leia and Chewie still highly suspicious of Lando even right after he delivers them from the storm troopers taking them to Vader’s shuttle. It was just lucky that Lando was able to gasp out that there was still a chance to save Han that saved himself from death by Wookiee.

TFA didn’t feel like a love letter to the OT at all to me, rather like the most expensive fan film ever made.

TLJ is weighed down by the ST’s poor set up (the FO being inexplicably all-conquering and powerful), but still succeeded despite all the things it had going against it.

That’s another problem I have with TFA. Abrams approached the movie like a fan, whereas Johnson approached it like a filmmaker first and foremost.

Since the movie’s release all online discussions feel like an exercise in who can hate the movie more, which why I’m not particularly fond of expressing my love for it as it makes me feel like some sort of extraterrestrial being with a mindset drastically different from others.

That’s funny as I have the exact same thoughts about TLJ (being essentially an officialised fan film due to all the quirky and left field elements that are inconsistent with the Star Wars I know, making it feel like someone’s personal take on Star Wars rather than a direct continuation of the previous film and preceding saga’s style, themes and tone that make it feel like Star Wars).

See, I have the same issues with TFA now as you do but that’s because TLJ failed to provide sufficient or compelling (or any at all) explanations for all the unexplained things occurring in TFA. Additionally due to the disappointment that TLJ was to me and how drastically it departed from what was setup in TFA, TFA as a direct result is now a mediocre to poor movie for me where prior to TLJ it was good to excellent.

But yeah, you shouldn’t feel restricted from discussing the movie and what you like about it. There are many here that enjoy and even love TLJ, you certainly aren’t alone nor in the presence of a majority here that hate the movie. In fact I’m certain I’m part of the minority here on OT.com that actively hate TLJ.

I think the only oddity with your ranking is just how the two ST movies are at polar opposites from each other and that’s what pique’s people’s interest to wonder aloud why 😉

Seeing that his eyebrow area doesn’t look damaged or scarred like the top of his head or under his left eye, I’d simply say that they escaped that kind of trauma to the area and so still grow the eyebrow hair back without issue.

One of my cousin’s once completely burnt off both of his eyebrows when lighting a bonfire (he’d thrown fuel all around it and the resulting fumes went up in a massive fireball when lit with him in it). To this day, he still has completely full and normal eyebrows 😉

If you didn’t like TFA that much as a carbon copy of ANH then I don’t understand how you can put TLJ at the top. It’s not a carbon copy in the sense of TFA but it reuses and repurposed so much from TESB and ROTJ in a mixed up fashion that IMO it is magnitudes worse than TFA.

I get the issues with TFA which I also took issue with but it wasn’t as big a deal for me as I overall enjoyed it as a love letter to the OT and trying to feel like the Star Wars that everyone loves while setting up new story and character arcs that started leading away from the rehashery and borrowing of ANH, that setup a lot of expectation and promise for TLJ which ended up taking a left turn at the intersection onto a road from another world instead of the expected right turn…

I don’t care which is more accurate, but eyebrows convey so much emotion. People without them look pretty alien, so having the redeemed Vader in his only real scene with them heightens the emotions Shaw gives off.

Being “pro-eyebrows” myself 😛 I also had never even thought of this aspect since when talking about it you generally have a static image in your mind as posted above. It always pays to remind yourself in such discussions that you’re talking about a motion picture which some elements present or missing can have a large impact due to their effect in a dynamic story telling medium.

1975 Ship Models - Visible for 1st time
Time

Wow! Welcome to the forum Colin and thank you for sharing these with us. Pretty amazing to see the original concept models for Star Wars '77 and having the chance to discuss them with their very creator.

Regarding the original Falcon, am I correct in assuming that it was still used in a re-purposed and heavily modified state as the Tantive IV Rebel Blockade Runner (or for inspiration at the very least)? They both have a very similar basic shape and overall design is all, with the exception of the front bridge area and the rear engine area having tripled in size:
