I don’t get why people bring up Vader’s redemption when saying Kylo should survive IX and be forgiven. Vader died in the end, even though he was redeemed. It would be really weird if he survived and showed up in the celebration scene of RotJ wearing white armor or something, with everyone being friends after a short apology like it’s an episode of My Little Pony.
Ben has to face some type of consequences or else it cheapens the impact of his previous actions. At the very least, even if he’s redeemed, he should exile himself like how Ulic Qel-Droma did.

100% agreed. I’ve seen good civil conversations on this site so far and hope nothing I say comes off as rude or condescending to anybody. Just my thoughts, so correct me if you feel. Firstly, I don’t even understand how the whole Reylo is a good message for the future generation. You can’t have Kylo violate Rey’s mind in front of the ashes of his victims, murder his own father, allow the destruction of entire planets, and have him be forgiven because love. It makes sense for Luke to want to redeem his father despite Vader’s actions, because Luke only ever cared about his father growing up. Rey barely knows Kylo and had to endure a lot of pain and suffering because of him, so she can’t fall in love with him no matter how sorry she feels for him after only one conversation in a hut, unless she’s severely damaged in the head.

If Anakin survived ROTJ, then he would face the consequences of his actions. He was only redeemed in Luke’s eyes and to the force itself by fulfilling his prophecy. Leia would certainly not forgive her father for years, probably decades. I feel like if they really wanted to shock the audience and have the story be satisfying to more people, then Leia should’ve been the one that was tempted to kill her son for becoming a new Vader, not Luke. This way, Leia learns something about forgiveness and maybe understands Anakin better, and the audience can finally see her deal with Vader being her father, since it’s almost like she doesn’t really care (other than in Bloodline by Claudia Grey).

This is a good post and I like your line of thinking with Leia.

There was a time when Star Trek was a dead series, before J.J. Abrams revived it.

True though I’m not sure if I’d say he revived it so much as “re-animated” it for a period and it has essentially been laid to rest again for the time being.

I more or less generally liked the first new JJ Trek but by number 2 they just felt like blatant ripoffs that had been converted into action movies with a Star Trek veneer.

Not a fan of Discovery either.

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **

Just read the update as well and man do I feel for you Ady in not only doubling the initial cost of the B-wing shoot and massively delaying it because of that one dodgy bastard but also not being able to pay bills because of criminals testing stolen credit cards on your donation system. It almost sounds like you’re being purposely targeted!

Hopefully that’s all the dodginess behind you now but I imagine it does make it much harder to trust other unknowns now that honestly just want to help and collaborate 😕

Here is the latest update for anyone that hasn’t seen it yet:

B) that a lot about what we got in Solo would have been the same even if they had indeed brought it to the finish line.

I don’t think that would have been the case as Ron Howard reportedly re-shot 70% of the movie and I imagine the 30% kept from L&M was probably edited quite differently that they would have envisioned.

There’s more to a film that just that. Understand that the entirety of preproduction was done by Lord/Miller. So just about the entire look of the film is L/M (cinematography, art direction, costumes, locations, much of the FX work and sequences). This also means they had a good deal of say in the development of the script (though if rumors are to be believed their improvisational straying from the script during filming was an issue). All that on top of the 30% L/M shot. So really the main thing that would have been different is the tone - of the some of the performances and editing (and staging). I personally believe this constitutes a significant difference but the truth is that a lot of people would have generally felt the same way about the film, either way.

I don’t doubt what you say about all the preproduction and so the movie would still have L&M’s “footprint” so to speak but with 70% reshot I would have to think it turned out quite differently than if L&M were allowed to complete it themselves.

I do agree though that regardless of what changed and what remains from L&M that many people would likely still feel the same way about the film.

The only difference is that I don’t take any enjoyment out of it but definitely a fascination I guess of how from my perspective, Star Wars has gone so wrong from what initially looked like such a promising start to the ST.

Fair enough. The ST definitely has parts that could bother some fans. Hopefully the future spin offs and TV shows will have a more unified appeal.

The Mandalorian is definitely sounding promising at this point, quite interested to see what direction it goes in and is reportedly much more in the vein of the OT. So far the only Star Wars from the Disney era I continue to like and enjoy is Rogue One so it would be nice to have something else new and exciting to look forward to again.

You might say there are the other new trilogies coming to look forward to as well but you can probably guess my opinion of Rian Johnson and it is yet to be seen if the Game of Thrones writers can come up with anything decent with their writing efforts on post George RR Martin GoT feeling pretty lacking in quality.

Oh I’m very interested to see how the train wreck comes to a final rest so I can look at the mangled mess and move on, knowing that it’s finally stopped and I can actually start forgetting about it. Bit hard to be a Star Wars fan at the moment and not see all the usual stuff about the next episode and I guess you could say I have a morbid curiosity.

What I have zero interest in is paying to see IX at the cinemas or reading up on theories and additional content on the ST, especially if it concerns “Reylo”.

I’m sorry you don’t like the sequel trilogy, but I am a fan of the trilogy. If you don’t like The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, then you don’t need to go see Episode IX then. I hated Michael Bay’s Transformers movies, so I stopped going to see them. The more you watch, the more movies will be made by giving them your money.

No problem, the fact you like it is fine though and all I was saying is that I don’t understand how you expect Kylo and Rey to still get together after that chance was missed in TLJ. Rey would have to deviate massively from her current character arc (if you can call it that) and be ok with all the atrocities and blood on Kylo’s hands.

I did like TFA originally but it required the next movie or two to do a lot of explaining and that simply didn’t happen and as a result TFA becomes a pretty mediocre movie itself. So yeah, I definitely won’t be paying for a ticket to IX as there is literally no point for me.

It’s about the sequel trilogy.

Hence why I’m not the least bit interested.

Sorry.

and Rian had to have his umpteenth subversion.

Buy Rey rejecting Kylo wasn’t a subversion at all. Having her join him would have been a subversion, since we expect the hero to reject the offer to join the villain, like Luke and basically every hero in every story ever.

But Rian = The Worst Thing That’s Ever Happened to Star Wars, so gotta make stuff up to be pissed at him for when there isn’t anything there I guess, huh?

You’re right actually, I just got so conditioned to him doing it that I lumped that expectation in with the rest of the subversions. Thinking about it now, if Rey HAD joined him then that would have been one subversion (the only one) that would have actually worked for me, instead of coming off as another cheap “gotcha” trick.

Rian is certainly the worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars in my books as for me he essentially killed the new trilogy and the possibility of enjoying a larger saga than the original 6 part one. His movie literally killed joy and interest in new Star Wars movies for me.

When Rey shut the Falcon’s door, she wasn’t turning him off in an act that she can’t trust him anymore, but in an act to show him that he needs to find where he truly belongs within himself before she can allow him to come to her. She’s not turning Ben away forever, but only until he begins to become and realize the person he needs to become in order for him to be with her. Ben begins to slowly come to a realization when he looks down in loneliness, defeat, and feeling upset. Very much how he felt weakened when he killed his father. You can tell just from reading the looks on Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver’s faces.

Kylo is responsible for killing most/all of Luke’s students, murdering Han Solo in cold blood in front of Rey, being an enabling part of an organisation that wiped out BILLIONS of people and other alien races in the destruction of the Hosnian system and who knows how many other atrocities. Kylo is supposedly the reason Luke does a 180 flip on his OT character as we knew him, causing Luke to go hide on an island while he waits to die alone. Luke’s absence is a major factor in Snoke and the First Order rising to power unchallenged. You think after all that Rey will enter into a loving relationship with this utterly evil, deranged and mentally unstable excuse for a human with a galaxy worth of blood on his hands??

There might yet be a path back to the light side and redemption for Kylo as with Vader but Rey is actually correct in calling him a monster, which she seems to forget 2-3 force-skype sessions later and if she ends up “with him” in IX that would be completely fucked up and the only way it could have made sense was if she went to the dark side and gave into some dark, evil desires she had been suppressing till now. Luke even comments earlier how she went straight to the dark side during her lesson, that she didn’t even try to resist it and this would have been the perfect lead in to her joining Kylo. Yet for some reason this leads no where and I think this is where my original thought that her not joining Kylo was a subversion as Rian had set up a few things to try and lead one to think that’s where it might be heading.

ChainsawAsh said:
Eh, there are some things about TLJ that were clearly designed specifically to subvert audience expectations, but it’s certainly nowhere near as prevalent in the film as the internet would lead you to believe.

It’s certainly not every minute or anything like that but it is a consistent theme running throughout the entire movie and this is based on my own experience, not what the internet says 😉 It’s one of the main things I recognised early on for myself when I started to internalise afterwards why I felt like shit after watching what was supposed to be a Star Wars movie.

I simply can’t understand a future for Star Wars where people want Rey and Kylo to actually be together in the movies after the events of TLJ. The world of Star Wars is already inside out without making it a complete chaotic mess.

The only chance that possible direction had was if Rey turned to the dark side in joining with Ben in TLJ and that ship has long since sailed and despite my grievances with TLJ I really wish they had done this as it a number of things would make a lot more sense and be something we haven’t yet seen in Star Wars.

Alas, Disney couldn’t have their new leading woman be seen as evil and Rian had to have his umpteenth subversion.

^ I was initially going to say the same but upon closer inspection I think there is a noticeable difference however it never did and never will bother me as you just put it down to a few seconds having elapsed from when it cuts to the front on perspective in which you simply assume they’ve moved into a closer escort formation. I’d have to watch the scene again for myself but are the TIEs even already seen to be gradually converging from the rear shot?

Did you watch the video I quoted? It doesn’t replace anything, just adds the March to the “gap” in the existing music.

I think I did a little while back during a previous visit to this thread, watched it again though as I couldn’t remember exactly what was changed.

While I think it works pretty well, at the same time I don’t like it as it DOES actually replace original music that is effectively announcing the arrival of Vader and setting the tone for how you should feel about him. The piece of music I refer to is in the first 8 or so seconds of the youtube link I posted above which also ties into the piece that follows it at around the 15 second mark as Vader walks off but it is cut off by the editing of the youtube video.

Shit, I should see if my old CDs of Jedi Knight will install and run on my laptop…

If not and you can’t be bothered stuffing around with compatibility workarounds or VMs, you can get it on Steam along with some bundle options. They’ve all actually got 70%+ discount right now:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/32380/STAR_WARS_Jedi_Knight_Dark_Forces_II/

Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2 is still my favourite Star Wars game of all time.
