I’d just like to say that several members here that I used to hold much respect for are now on a mental list of members I hold with moderate to extreme disdain, due to there unreasonable statements regarding Japanese animation, which I find are extremely insulting to many people. Just to be specific, I refer mainly to the members TV’s Frink, Tyrphanax, and suspiciouscoffee.

Even Silver Wook has stated his dislike of such posts that starting spilling out of members somewhat recently.

I don’t care what anyone else’s opinions are for the most part. I can’t tell anyone what to think, and I don’t want to. If someone wants to be a fool, then I’ll let them be a fool, as long as they aren’t directly hurting others.

I just find these opinions being voiced in such harsh manners to be insulting, and would like to ask that such members (and anyone else I may have forgotten to list) refrain from continuing the redundant and useless statements regarding Japanese animation.

I’m sure many of you can sympathize with this thought, as many members here quickly got tired of hearing many harsh statements regarding TFA after its release earlier in the year.

I find that this is an even worse situation than that (especially considering that I personally thought TFA moderately sucked), because rather than voicing specific opinions about one particular film (even if unreasonable), these members are voicing almost completely unreasonable opinions (while stating them as facts) about an entire subsection of an entertainment media.

I’m mostly joking when I say it. I have several friends irl that are fans of various animes and I make the same jokes. Usually they laugh it off. I guess it doesn’t work as well in the typed form as it does in person. I shall refrain from making further comments on the matter of anime as I have recently.

Thank you for clarifying and being a reasonable human being, rather than an ass like the other two specified members.

And I’m not trying to shame anyone for offending anime lovers or anything like that. I just think that the statements being made were completely unnecessary and unreasonable, not to mention insulting if any such statements were made genuinely.

Lol man, it’s super obvious, “typed form” has nothing to do with it, and I’m sure he’s smart enough to understand. He just can’t ignore it like he should, for some reason.

“Typed form” does have some play in the matter of understanding statements fully. But yes, I’ve realized that at least most of it coming from you is trolling ever since you started the shtick.

They’re just busting your balls.

I’m well aware that most of it is just trolling (something that I find much hypocrisy in), but underneath the thick layer of troll, I can’t tell how much is genuine opinion or not.

I never took your apparent dislike of anime personally. I just find it extremely annoying, and under the mild thought that there is some genuine opinion behind the troll, I feel that a whole lot of people (myself included) are being needlessly insulted. And that would be actually insulting to many people, unlike the use of retard as a direct insult.

Wow, you should try getting over yourself in this particular instance. Especially if you think being mean to anime is more insulting than calling someone a retard to belittle them.

“Calling anime bad is almost as mean as saying the Jews deserved the Holocaust guys!”

And from now on I’ll probably consider you an unintelligent ass.

Well that’s not a very nice thing to say.

I’m sure there are plenty of Japanese animators who don’t produce anime, and they’re probably fine pieces of animation.

Strikes me as a bit silly to assume that Japanese people can only create anime-style animation.

When I say that anime is bad, I’m directly insulting that one style of animation, not broadly insulting all animation or all Japanese people. That’s one style of animation being insulted.

I do realize that, for the most part, but there’s also a genuine feeling of needless hatred (especially when Tyrphanax acts like his teenage-hood was ruined by enjoying pieces of animated media that appealed to him at the time). And considering that they are just trolling (which I mentioned to yackwicks soon after they started the shtick)…

Hey man, I just want all those wasted years back. That’s all. I could have been watching something decent.

The Place to Go for Emotional Support

Depression doesn’t really take into account how good your life is. You can have the objectively best life in the world and still be depressed.

I’ve always had things pretty good, and yet I’ve been pretty massively depressed at points in my life. That’s just how it works. You have to stop being so hard on yourself about this stuff. It’s like Bingo keeps saying, if you’d fallen and broken a leg, would you be saying your leg shouldn’t be broken because you have things pretty well in general? Or would you focus on healing? You don’t just “man up” or “get some courage” to “get over” a broken leg, you stop and let it heal. It’s the same thing with brains.

You should definitely be discussing your depression with the therapist as well. A lot of this stuff is all co-morbid. Depression and anxiety and OCD all go together as a package deal a lot of the time, and they all need to be worked on together.

I wish you’d give this therapy a chance, but like you said, if you’re not willing to participate then nothing will change.

I understand not putting a Rebels character in RO, that just makes sense, but why not the other way around? Would be an opportunity sorely missed. Isn’t this what the story group is for?

They did put a Clone Wars character in RO though, so maybe. On a side note, I’d love to see how people react if Maul is in an upcoming movie. I’d bet that 90% of people think Maul is still dead.

I don’t think they could do Maul… they’d have to explain everything again for the movie and that’d take up a ton of time. I’d like it, but it’d be so much to do. Maybe his own Anthology or something?

DominicCobb said:

I think Dodonna would be the least they could do (or Mothma or Bail).

Saw Gerrera might make sense because they sort of created him but if what I’ve heard of his character in RO is correct I don’t know how well he’d fit.

I am starting to wonder how long they see this show going. I always thought of it as a prequel that’d end by the time of ANH but I suppose they could go past that if they really wanted, though I’m not sure if they would.

Would not be surprised to see certain Rebel leaders later on!

I hope they let it finish itself out, unlike they did with The Clone Wars. The show was so close to being done (or at least coinciding with ROTS) when they pulled the plug, and it makes me really sad.

Should the prequels and TFA be considered canon?
Time

I think we’ve been over this a couple times before, but canon is whatever you want it to be. Something being “official” means just as much as something being unofficial. Free yourself from the notion that it matters.

I actually heard Pablo Hidalgo give an interesting opinion on canon the other day during his extended interview on The Star Wars Show.

Convincing Casual Fans to Begin with "Star Wars"

I think that most people who remember the Phantom Menace being released still think about Star Wars as separate trilogies, with the original one being the classic films worth watching. It’s the people who grew up with all of the Star Wars movies that will just assume that Episode I is the place to begin.

Yeah, this causes problems I think.

Just finished the episode. I really enjoyed it. Ezra is going dark (the whole rescue at the end was very definitely an allegory for the path he was starting down) and I’m certain we’re far from “status quo” at this point. Loved the Y-Wings, loved that they finally tied them into the OT (from their “first appearance” in The Clone Wars, though it’s a shame they won’t get a ton of use out of them!) Especially enjoying the West End Games shout outs, too.

Did the holocron’s voice sound like Ventress from TCW to anyone else? I’m sure it’s not meant to have any connection to the character, but it could’ve been a neat little casting easter egg.

It is definitely Nika Futterman. I’m interested to see if it’s Ventress’ holocron or not.

I doubt very much that we’ve seen the last of it.
