I gotta say, the press conference wasn’t bad. Plenty of non-answers and stuff as usual, but that’s par for the course. The lawyer segment was a smart move, but we’ll see how much of that actually holds up later.

I haven’t seen any of it, but I guess you disagree with this article?

And yeah I know it’s on Jezebel.

No more or less messy than that article, haha. It reads like it was written by someone very young who didn’t take many writing courses and really hates Trump.

I don’t recall him being especially vicious to anybody (except BuzzFeed who really deserves it for being a pile of garbage). He cracked some jokes and did get into it with the CNN reporter, but I wouldn’t say vicious describes it. He did talk about the Nazi Germany thing a bit.

It certainly wasn’t as eloquent or well-spoken as Obama’s conferences, but I think he came across as more “Presidential” today than I’ve seen him before.

It’s funny because after the first speaker (I dunno who it was) was getting into his childish tirade, I was expecting the whole conference to follow that line. I was thinking , great, we’ve got four years of bullshit like this in press conferences. But Trump I thought was fairly reserved and controlled (except for the surprisingly-short outburst about CNN).

Now, that said, again he really just dodged all the questions and said nothing of note (Sherri Dillon did all that), and of course I certainly don’t know how any of that stuff will work or what kind of loopholes are built-into it or if any of it is true or ethical or legal in any way, but tonally he came across well. In my opinion.

And I don’t like him.

So I know this is a random thought, but do you think that rebel was really named Porkins, of is that a mean nickname that the other rebels gave him do to his size?

I’ve always assumed Porkins was his nickname.
Same with Han Solo. I figured Han used Solo as a last name to avoid the lawn such. But the EU and now ST have made it his actual last name. Lucky for me, I don’t care much for those things.

JEDIT: After looking at a discussion in the TFA Review thread, I may be wrong about the ST making Solo Han’s official last name. Looks like I may have assumed something here that didn’t happen. Having only seen that film once, I’m willing to admit that I could be wrong.

wat

Sorry, that was supposed to read “law n’ such”, not “lawn such”.
😉

Now I have even more questions!

I agree. The episodes need to stop after nine for a while. Otherwise Star Wars will turn into a Friday the 13th franchise.

*cue Mala complaining that it already has*

My work here is done.

I wish that were so.

I bet you would.

I guess that’s what you’re best at isn’t it?

or if they just kinda stare blankly at the screen.

When the film is so bad as TFA, you cannot blame people for doing that.

If most of us can pay attention to the PT well enough to form well reasoned arguments someone like you can certainly watch TFA with some attentiveness. To at least get a moderate sense of what you’re talking about. Beyond that you could have just payed attention for the sake of not being lazy.

Bingo.

I actually laughed in the theater when he takes his mask off to reveal that he’s just some bratty kid. It’s a fantastic moment, gives you the exact impression of him that you’re supposed to have: he’s a wannabe who has very little idea what he’s doing.

I strongly agree. The only difference is that you think this is brillant while I believe it ruins the main menace… and the story as a whole. In ANH Tarkin and Vader are cold and intelligent; in TFA their “young versions” Hux and Ren are so childish that I never believe in the First Order. I just don’t buy it.

“I hate TFA, it’s such a rehash. Also, the main villains are not like Tarkin or Vader, which is also bad.”

I kinda feel like this is what a lot of the arguments against the Disney-era films boil down to.

That’s because you don’t understand my point. Rehash or not, you’ve got to make good villains, which are severely lacking in TFA. Hux/Ren is obviously a Tarkin/Vader rehash for kids (Harry Potter/Hunger Games generation), and a lame rehash, which does not work. Like the plot is an OT rehash, and a lame rehash. Hux reminds me of the villain in Die Hard 4. Hux actor also sucks in his part (powerful speech ? Seriously guys…).

Snoke is a pretty decent evil menace, I thought. Hux is a decent fanatical military officer (not like Tarkin at all) and I’m not sure Kylo is even a villain. He does evil things, but I think there’s enough depth to his character that we might see a change of heart.

The fact that he wants to be Vader and Rey learns that’s he’s afraid he’ll never be is one of the best parts of their respective characters. Ren’s flaws make him more interesting.

This was something truly incredible about Force Awakens. I absolutely loved Adam Drivers acting when she says “…that you’ll never be as powerful as Darth Vader”. In that moment he feels so violated and like she finally discovered his darkest secret. I’m excited to see this play out further in episode 8.

I would say that’s one of the best scenes in Star Wars period.

Are the Prequels Even Worth Watching Once?
Time

I admit I’ll toss one on once every couple years or so, but it’s like when you eat KFC for the first time in two years. You go in thinking, eh it can’t be as bad as I remember!

It always is.

And then I’m sad for awhile about what they could have been, and instead we’re stuck with these lame things… ugh.

On-topic: If you’re showing someone for the first time, skip 'em. They gain nothing from watching them.

Just let it sink in that he’s laying down ONE BILLION DOLLARS on this. Holy shit. I can’t imagine having four million bucks in my account, let alone four billion. Forget all the hundreds of millions from Star Wars over the years. Insane amounts of cash.

Good for him. I might not agree with the direction he took Star Wars in, but I respect the man in a major way.
