Mr. Clive Barker and I had a short DM conversation on Twitter once and he followed me for awhile. Then he stopped.

Also Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank follow me.

What's happened to Clive's voice and body are beyond anything he has written in terms of bizarreness. He went from a mild Liverpool accent to a weird Loyd Grossman mid-Atlantic voice to Animal off the Muppets and his body has turned into a badly made action figure.

Yeah. It's weird. Body Snatchers.

What do you HATE about the EU?

Prior to the release of the PT, I had come to envision the Mandalorians as this formidable society of relentless warriors who were able to rival the Jedi even though they weren't primarily made up of Force-users. Unfortunately, the PT and the subsequent EU have spoiled that perception.

Indeed. That's how they've always been in my mind, and they really managed to hold onto that for a long time in the EU... until the Dark Times. Until Traviss.

Her books are so bad. Boba Fett is literally crying to his daughter about what a bad father he was while the clones and Mandos are out being god's gift to the galaxy saving the Jedi Order during Order 66 singlehandedly and later chilling with Luke and Han and Leia and giving Jaina Solo the training she needs to kill her brother. Ugh. It's disgusting. Never has someone taken a larger dump on Star Wars since Lucas himself.

It's a hipster thing, I know, but Mandalorians weren't really talked about much until Traviss came along and made them into intergalactic gods who never did anything wrong and if they did, it was someone else's fault or part of some larger plan that made them look even cooler and smarter in the end.

I loved the Open Seasons comic personally. I thought it was great. Probably the very last good Mandalorian content we've had in a long time. I can only hope that the new canon changes will wipe out every trace of Traviss on the universe. I also hope that the rumour is true that kills lame PT Boba and takes his name and armour; perhaps a Jouneyman-Protector from Concord Dawn named Jaster... just as long as we can get back to OT Boba (no gimmicky female/other twist stuff, either) and I can stop having AOTC flashbacks when I think of him.

That'll really piss off a lot of Prequel-Loving Lucas-Apologists because they love Mary Sue Mandos and Boba Friendly.

Hello all, I'm back! (was: Who is Ignoring You, and Who are You Ignoring?) (was: Who is Ignoring You?))
Time

For what it's worth, someone asked where I'd been, and I'm just now obliging them while trying to lurk it up a bit more.

As most of you no doubt know, I am a student as ASU, and I believe you were all updated on the status of my Canadian girlfriend (she really is real, guys). Well, long story short I more or less moved to Calgary to be with her at the beginning of last summer. Originally I planned to stay the summer and come back for my last two semesters at ASU, but plans changed while we were up here and we decided to bring her down to Arizona to live with me for a few months (she's taking her degree online), we were all set to go, apartment and everything all set up and waiting for us, and she was denied at the boarder, because white chicks from Canada are the number on threat to United States Security.

After getting a return ticket and various other proofs of her ties to Canada, we attempted again and were denied again with threat of her being banned from the States for five years if she did not wait six months to build more ties to her home country. I made the decision to get all of my courses switched to online courses and stayed here after being accepted for a work visa, which gives me another year of amnesty. I've been able to get my last semester switched to online courses as well, and here I am today.

Needless to say, my online presence was cut down pretty heavily in light of the chaos that ensued, and I'm only just now creeping back into old haunts.

I know I was missed. Please leave any gifts at the door and ring the bell. Don't expect any thank-you cards. I'll be taking questions now: CDs are available in the lobby and I think I still have a few t shirts left somewhere in my car.

I liked the original Modern Warfare better than all the others. After that, the series just went to shit. I enjoyed CoD2 a lot and it's a shame they had to ruin the franchise.

Now they're in space shooting aliens or some shit. What kind of game is that? Let's go back to WWII or something decent please.

something I always wondered about the PT
Time

I say we take everything that happened on Tatooine in the PT and put it on Nar Shaddaa or Nal Hutta.

It would make more sense because it's the heart of the underworld. It would make sense to have illegal podraces there with thousands of people from all over the galaxy. It would make more sense for a booming slave trade. It obviously makes more sense for the Hutts to control it (something you never hear any references to in the OT, not that there always has to be a legitimizing reference, but that's a pretty big deal). It makes more sense to find rare starship parts. It makes sense to hide there because you can just blend in with a crowd, though you can't just land out in the desert somewhere unrecorded, but surely there's some work-around, bribes, mind tricks (it worked in KOTOR). I suppose they'd take Repiblic credits, too, but meh. Whatever.

It's a good idea, it just needs work. I suppose you could argue that the Hutts abandoned Tatooine sometime after TPM and it fell apart after then, but you'd think with any kind of economy that someone would have filled the power vacuum.

Also Tarkin being briefed about the planet Vader lost the Death Star plans over makes perfect sense to me. Especially when there's only two confirmed cities and Mos Eisley is apparently the larger of the two.

Clone Wars.

I hate that Boba Fett was no longer a mandalorian because Jango was revealed to not be one in the clone wars cartoon. Never liked Jango but by extension Boba was no longer a Mando. Extremely stupid.

Wat. This just isn't true. I'd remember something like that and been up in arms about it.

I hate that Boba takes his helmet off so much these days. Like I needed reminding that Lucas ruined the character in AOTC, thanks.

Also anything Karen Traviss has ever written under the Star Wars label. She ruined the awesome Republic Commando with her bad stories, and further ruined Boba Fett and the Mandalorians by turning them and the clones into the biggest group of Mary Sue shit to ever grace Star Wars.

IMO, the prequels could never have been great with the choice to focus on the backstory of Darth Vader.

Honestly, who thought "Huh... I'd like to see what he was like as a little boy!" after hearing "Commander, tear this ship apart until you've found those plans, and bring me the passengers. I want them alive!"?

Even post-"I am your father!" and post-redemption, who honestly gave a shit about how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader?

There were many other story possibilites for the PT. The Fall of Anakin Skywalker/Rise of Darth Vader should have been left for a cheap EU paperback novel you'd find in a drug store.

I think that the story of a good man, who becomes a terrible villain, and then is redeemed through a love for his son, is a great story to tell.

In the OT, we had the last half of it.

In a timeline with a good PT, we could have had the first half of it. With the PT that exists in this timeline, it's worse than not having it. I think the PT was a flawed execution much more than a flawed premise.

That's what I've always said. If you boil it all down, the prequels have a great premise. It was just massively bungled and now we forever have to live with the consequences, because it's not like we're going to see a new version of it for a long, long time. Maybe never.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Dave Filoni said:

"We will see many things that are famous to Star Wars, but have not appeared on screen in a while. Star Destroyers, TIE Fighters, and Stormtroopers – basically the Empire is back and that is a big change, since, for many years, we have only seen the Republic in action. The tone of the series is also different. The Clone Wars got very dark as we headed towards the end of the war and the downfall of the Jedi. Star Wars Rebels brings back the banter and faster pace that the original films were famous for."

I think is is an awesome quote right here.

I'm not going to go so far as to think they'll ignore the prequels totally, or try to erase them or whatever, but since 1999, we've been totally inundated with the PT. Toys, games, shows, movies, nearly everything Star Wars since TPM has been PT related, and at this point, the OT is kind of a blip in the past. Sad as it is, with all the PT stuff, the OT has become more or less irrelevant in terms of Star Wars, especially for new Star Wars fans, who may never have seen them.

I fully admit I'm fanboying here about Filoni and stuff, but this is really what the OT needs, a shot in the arm to get new fans interested in it, I mean, sure we all got hooked on the OT, but times have changed, and rather than moping about it, it's nice to see some action being taken to bring the OT back to the forefront, to make it relevant again. It's been so long since we had any real OT material (aside from books, but those really are meant for established fans who don't need help visualising stuff), and I think that Rebels can provide that intro to the OT for the kids who may be more easily enticed by the flash and dazzle of the PT compared to the slower, less intense (but far superior) OT.

It's certainly better than rebooting the OT, or trying to "update" it a la 1997.

Sick of Star Wars Prequel bashing....
Time

Ryan McAvoy said:

CO said:

I always thought the Prequels should have been 1 movie, and I think it would have been alot more accepted among the SW fanbase. Coppola was able to tell Vito Corleone's backstory in one movie, why did we need 3 movies to see the backstory of Anakin Skywalker other then to cash in on the SW name?

If Lucas would have done 1 Prequel movie, he could have crafted a 3 hour no holds barred movie where it would have been all red meat to the fans, and we wouldn't have to deal with pointless exposition that makes the trilogy move like molasses sometimes.

When Puzo died he and Coppola were planning on a 4th film that would have told Vito's long missing backstory between the end of GF2 and the start of GF1, so this analogy doesn't totally work.

I agree it could have been covered in one movie but in a galaxy as big as SW 3 movies should have still been exciting and fast paced. Obi Wan was barely in TPM and Anakin wasn't developed at all either. Lucas could have stuffed all 3 of the PT with exciting adventures we never saw (The "Nest of Gundarks"? or "That business on Cato Nemoidia"?) or call me crazy but he could have shown us what happened in the bloody CLONE WARS?!?

Seeing the Clone Wars was the main reason I bought cinema tickets to those films. But all we got was Yoda saying they'd started in AOTC, one battle above Coruscant in ROTS, a couple of montages and then they were over. What happened to 'Episode II.5: The Clone Wars' Where we spent 2 hours having fun and beginning to actually like our two heroes Anakin and Obi-Wan?

You mean this and this?
