Is anybody a fan of instrumental rock/metal music? I've been working on projects for years where I take a metal song, or any song for that matter, and work it into a metal instrumental. I actually don't want to make them instrumentals but I can't sing and I don't know anybody talented enough to make the cut.

On that note, does anybody know of any ways I could get this stuff sort of... out there where people will hear it? I put alot of work into them, and getting 20 likes on facebook seems like underachieving. I've recorded 30 plus songs, 3 albums worth. I'd like people to hear it.

By working into an instrumental, I mean melodies are added. Even though they are metal, they are very melodic. Often the added melodies are inspired by the melody that singer would ideally be singing.

Also, does anybody know of any internet gatherings of recording musicians? It'd be super cool to collaborate with somebody and get some vocals in this.

This is the latest song I've recorded if anybody's curious. All guitars and bass are me. The synth and drum are programmed midis with the best soundfonts I could fine. Keep in mind that all recording, mixing, and mastering is done by me as well so don't expect it to be pop radio perfect, but I think it sounds listenable. It has a reasonable eq pallette, meaning it doesn't sound thin or too bassy as many amateur recordings do.

Maybe I should make a thread about this, I just didn't want to seem too self involved. I'm not apart of any other forums so other than facebook I'm not sure where else to share it.

There's gotta be a subreddit for that kind of stuff! Post over there and see what people think.

So a salesman comes into my wife's shop a couple weeks ago trying to sell her a Chip-&-PIN Point of Sale system (she currently uses the Square add-on with her iPad). She declined, and when she asked me about it, I explained that its a much more secure credit card system that everyone but America uses, and like the metric system, it won't catch on because it's too different and I can't see credit card companies sending out all new cards to everyone, and besides, I've never seen one before.

Yesterday we get our new credit cards. They're Chip-&-PIN. No explanation of what that means, or what the little gold square is for. It's just "here's your new card, thanks for owing us money!"

My wife says "Apparently you were wrong about this being years off, huh?"

JEDIT: They might only be Chip-&-Signature, so face saved?

I actually had no experience with Chip-And-Pin until coming to Canada, and it blew me away. I later learned that the US will start rolling it out in 2015, so your experience is not too far off from reality.

Did I mention I finally finished Arrested Development?

I finished it. It was fantastic.

Isn't it just?

It took me awhile to warm up to Season 4, but it's probably my favourite. I think I'd like it less if it was all in proper order, because there's a lot of hilarious reveals and "Oh so THAT'S what/who that was!" moments that you'd lose.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

OKAY!

Thoughts on episodes three and four.

Fighter Flight

This episode didn't really hit it out of the park for me. It wasn't bad, but I feel like they turned Zeb into a big kid (for just this episode) for the sake of giving Ezra someone to clash with. I feel like it should have been Sabine, since it feels like they're going for a little romance angle with her and the tension between them would have made for a nice Han/Leia homage, but it's not that big a deal.

It was cool to see how TIE fighters handle, and atmospheric flight, though. Chopper is always good for a laugh. It was sweet to see the Kenner Troop Carrier toys being used; and they actually used the little side pockets in a way that made sense!

Also neat to get a bit of a Ezra's backstory, or at least a mention of his parents and a friend of theirs.

I enjoyed it, but it wasn't too notable. Just a goofy romp buddy-buddy episode.

Rise of the Old Masters

Holy. Shit.

Just wow. This episode knocked it out of the park. I kept worrying, because it was Force and Jedi and prequel heavy, but it delivered.

The training on the Ghost was funny and had good callbacks to Yoda (though I kinda wish they hadn't named him, but since he doesn't matter in this story it's not a big deal).

I'm sorry, but Chopper always makes me laugh; it's just Star Wars humour, he's like Artoo but a jerk. You know exactly what he's saying, even though you don't understand him. He's slapstick, but not stupid. He's goofy, but not stupid. It's brilliant.

Zeb was back to his old self. Much better. Not stupid. Sabine I feel like they're holding off on, and I kinda like it, I know we'll eventually learn her story, but for now they're building some hype, just like old Boba. Hera is starting to feel a bit underdeveloped, but I'm sure we'll see more about her and Sabine soon.

This was really Ezra and Kanan's episode, though. The master/apprentice relationship, Ezra wanting acceptance, Kanan unsure of his abilities to train a student.

The twist of the episode blew me away. So dark and twisted and just perfectly evil. I loved it. I was disturbed but I loved it.

And, the big reveal of the episode, the Inquisitor. I was worried about this moment, but I just loved it. The saber fight was choreographed like the prequels, but it felt like an OT saber fight, because I cared about Kanan and Ezra, and because the Inquisitor does, indeed, have that obviously evil presence to him. His saber was a bit over-the-top, but you know what, I just didn't even care that much.

This show is just good. There's no other word for it. And not even for a Star Wars show, for any show. I love it. I laugh genuinely at it, I feel tense watching it, I'm invested, I'm engaged, more than I ever was for The Clone Wars. My girlfriend, while being a nerd who enjoys Star Wars herself, isn't as crazy about it as I am, also loves the show. Dave and his team have managed to capture the essence of the OT very well. Watch this show.

NECROPOST!

So, I gots me a new laptop, with that cursed Windows 8.

It runs like a charm, streams video well, but for some reason Flash games (specifically Avengers Alliance on Facebook, my lil boys favorite) run rather slow and choppy. Everything else I do goes just fine.

Any thoughts why this would be so?

What are the specs? RAM? CPU? GPU?

Likely one of those. Unless it runs other system-intensive things without problems. OS isn't really a factor here (except newer versions of Windows do use more RAM than past).

Anchorhead makes very good points about staying malware free with the exception of religious sites. Those can be loaded with malware to the point that porn sites look like cleanrooms.

Anyone else blase' about the New trilogy?
Time

I'm hyped. I didn't want to hype, because we've all been burnt before, but I'm hyping pretty good right now.

Trying to remain mostly spoiler-free is tough, and stuff pops up in my face on the internet here and there, but I'm otherwise holding out on any rumors or spoilers or leaks or anything, and I feel like maybe that's contributing. I'm really excited to sit down in the theater and see the very first trailer.

You know it's totally gonna start off with those lilting chords of "The Force Theme", too. It has to, really.

Also, his name is SHEEV. No third "e" (which makes it a bonafide Prequel name really). GOD GUYS. GET IT RIGHT.

Should Darth Plagueis have had a larger part in the PT?
Time

generalfrevious said:

Maybe; you could have Palpatine exploit Anakin's lack of a biological father by saying that Plagueis created him, and that his destiny belonged to the dark side of the force all along, which could be a motive for becoming Darth Vader.

Or just never mention Plagueis at all, that wouldn't affect the story much.

This is a decent idea.

I feel like his name was just shoehorned into the film as it was. It didn't mean anything aside from basically giving Palpatine's position away.
