The Terminator (1984) - Original Theatrical Mono Preservation (Released)
Time

On a different note I decided to finally make a video comparing the subtle differences between the Mono on the LD and the one that was included on the MGM Special Edition DVD.

https://vimeo.com/246332731

One slight difference I believe is present but didnt note in the video is when the Terminator cocks the 12 gauge in the gun shop. Is it me or does it sound like the cocking sound was double tracked on the MGM mono??

THANK YOU!!! I had read about these subtle differences on both this site and others, but never had them all compiled WITH annotations to point them out directly. Nice work…

…However. You’re missing the difference in the door clank sound at the police station
when The Terminator walks out (after saying “Ill be back”).

Superman I-III extended TV cuts & Info - Where have the Preservations gone? (Released)

In the meantime if anyone wants to preview part 2 on their 5.1 setup let me know. I am eager to get this out, but not before i can verify the sound is ok.

Still waiting on that? I’d say ask the people on the fanedit message board, but I think they have policies against tv edits or non-official releases or something, correct?

Info: Deleted Scenes from Films that ended up in Other Films or TV shows Archive List
Time

TV versions of films I’ve seen that have deleted scenes that have never appeared in any official release:

  • Superman 2 - Yes, there’s more stuff Donner and Lester shot that hasn’t been released
  • Ace Ventura - About 10-12 minutes of footage
  • Stephen King’s Thinner - 5 or so minutes I caught on a horror channel
  • The Birdcage - A good 20 minutes (roughly 6-8 scenes) of footage

Movies I’ve seen in recent years that have added footage that I’ve found on the interwebs:

  • First Blood
  • Cobra
  • National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon part 1

I’m sure there’s more but I just woke up and can’t really think before coffee, lol.

Feedback Wanted: 'The Matrix' - 1 pass Blu-ray regrade. Based upon earlier 35mm release.
Time

Looks like the green is removed. Most Matrix fans would say this is heresy, but I actually prefer neutral colors. When I was younger and had the movie on DVD (the first dvd with the snap case), I remember watching behind the scenes clips from the movie that didn’t have the green, or even the music. I remember thinking: “Hmm. Wouldn’t it be cool if they released an alternate version like that. I’d love to try putting in different music and see if it fits”.

Yeah, I was already into fan editing long before I even heard of it, lol.

The Terminator - Color Regrade [No Longer Available]
Time

Please don’t take this the wrong way guys, but I still have a copy of The Terminator on vhs, and it isn’t that blue. The color was always pretty neutral, except for the future scenes which are always blue (though some trailers have those scenes look very pink/magenta pushed. Probably Cameron’s floodlights to help the blue once the filters were added. Same thing for T2 trailers).

I also have a very old German dvd of Terminator that looks like it was taken from a film print (lots of print damage and cigarette burns), and it’s actually very teal, but not the same kind of teal like the blu-ray. It’s more natural, if that makes any sense.

Here’s some screencaps:

It’s the first DE/German dvd on the left. The only one with a 1.66 aspect ratio.

So the original print was NOT in fact, as Teal as so many have said? Not so much here maybe, but on other sites where we discuss this. Cuz I have an old german DVD that actually has a very teal color to it. Not so much like the current Region A blu-rays (much more natural, IMO), but many have argued the case that this is why the film was originally teal.

Personally, I want it to look like (and of course, sound like) the way I watched it growing up. So it doesn’t even matter to me.

The Terminator - Color Regrade [No Longer Available]
Time

Yeah, my internet has ben slow-to-not working on and off for the past month now and I have no idea why. Doing that post actually took about 20 minutes because I had to wait till roughly 50 seconds of those videos loaded and I could hear. I researched about 5 videos and must’ve gotten them mixed up.

Also, another thing others have noted in the differences in the mono mixes is that you can hear the motorcycle Arnold is riding BEFORE we see him riding it right after the sex scene, while in others you don’t hear it till we see him. My old VHS copy is the former.

Lucky you!! I was supposed to see a 35mmm print a few weeks ago, and they changed it to a DCP at the last minute. I got my money back, but lost out on Sunday pay at work (called out). Aside from what Dek mentioned, pay close attention to the sound of the door hitting the wall when Arnold swings it open after he says “Ill be back” (It’s right before he comes back and kills the guy with his car). There are 2 mono mixes of the film, and both have a different sound effect for when the door slams open.

Color matching and prediction: color correction tool v1.3 released!
Time

Will this work if I’m trying to take the color timing of a non-anamorphic dvd and make an anamorphic dvd match it’s color timing? Basically, I have a non-anamorphic dvd of Terminator 2 that has more neutral color timing (less blue) and I wanna use a better qualitty dvd source that has the same (or close to it) color timing.

Where did you source your 4X3 footage from?

It’s a PAL digital copy of a FS version I got off the spleen. I’ve decided not to use this though. The colors off way too off, and I can’t for the life of me get the AR to be correct. Just gonna use my old widescreen DVD instead.

Oh I’m watching your thread as well, Rollins. I’ll definitely check it out when it’s finished, as I like how the overdone blue color makes it look more T2. Dark Jedi’s regrade is my go-to (kk650’s is about the same IMO), but weirdly enough, what you’re doing is how my memories of the film as a little boy play out in my head. Like for whatever reason, the color blue is what I think of for T1. Yet DJ and KK’s regrades are obviously much more neutral.
