Having appearances from characters from the books would be a little tricky as this series is set at the tail end of the High Republic era, close to 200 years after where the books currently are. Burryaga could work since Wookiees are so long lived but I don’t know that they would want to tie their hands like that. As that would mean you now know he survives up to that time and that would undercut any tension from stories with him in it that precede it.

This … kinda makes me mad.
The end of a Saga, the last movie of a “connected” series (9 movies in total) should answer questions at the end … not leave more questions…
It’s a trademark of all Abrams productions. It’s why I was mortified when I found out he was being tapped for the Sequel Trilogy.

I guess you could make the argument for Rey not showing up. Luke kinda messed up by convincing her to leave Ahch-To, come to think of it. Ben likely would have realized Rey wasn’t on Exegol, and the two of them would have just chilled elsewhere while the Resistance launched an attack on Exegol.
Fairly certain that Finn, Poe, and co. would have gotten rid of all the Star Destroyers in that battle. Their actions never relied on the Palpatine interactions, did they?
Oh boy, I’m never going to be able to forget this plot hole now.
There would never have been a battle since Rey is the one that showed them how to reach Exegol.
That would have left the Final Order fleet free reign to fully deploy and spread out across the galaxy destroying countless worlds and then holding a proverbial blaster to the head of the galaxy.

I’ve been playing a lot of Old Republic stuff lately and it’s struck me how much of TROS seems to have been inspired by elements from it.
There’s a Force bond between two characters in the original game that is very similar to the dyad.
In the second game there’s the threat of the true Sith Empire hiding out in the Unknown Regions.
And in SWTOR there’s this concept called the Voice of the Emperor or Emperor’s Voice:
Through Sith magic and the long-lost technique of transfer essence, the Sith Emperor transferred his consciousness and life force into a host body, allowing him to interact with the world as more than just his true state as a being of pure Force energy. The host’s mind was completely suppressed, crushed beneath the weight of the Emperor’s mind, and their body literally became the Sith’s own. The Emperor utilized many Voices of different species, genders, and ages throughout his lifetime, transferring his consciousness and powers from body to body as his hosts succumbed to the ravaging effects of the dark side.
Which immediately made me think of Snoke.

SPOILERS for episode 5:
I have never seen the X-men films, so Evan Peters’ appearance didn’t do much for me - I was kinda hoping for Aaron Taylor Johnson, actually. I also feel out of my depth when it comes to the influence of the comics, which I’ve never read (neither of these things are criticisms of the show obviously!) I’ve had a great time experiencing the show as it has progressed, with all the twists and turns, and from what I can glean from wise comic experts, I believe the explanation that Wanda is solely responsible for Westview is misleading. ‘Agnes’ and a certain character called Mephisto might be in on it too…
SPOILERS:
I’ve followed all of 20th Century Fox Marvel films from the beginning. The reveal of the X-Men Quicksilver was absolutely mind blowing. The coming Multiverse is going to be epic.

Hey guys, this thread is way to long to get a hint of how things are going, but is this cut finished?
You should always check a project’s first post, most are pretty good about keeping the status of their projects updated there.

If you examine the line carefully:
“Arfour, scramble code five to Coruscant, care of the Old Folks’ Home.”
He’s calling himself the Old Folks’ Home, he doesn’t want the Confederacy or any other nosey snoopers knowing that it’s him sending a message to the temple.

Oh, I get the excitement. “Here he comes!” “They did it!” ect.
But I’m reading reviews that seem to think Luke came outta nowhere & was out of place.
That’s what I don’t understand. I don’t think it was overly telegraphed that it’d be Luke, but if you know the OT, it’s just the logical conclusion. It’s organic to the world at this point in the timeline.
I think reactions like that come from people who still aren’t even sure when the show is actually set.

only true fans know why this is christmas themed
(which is most people on this thread)
Christmas?
Wookieepedia says: The Holiday Special aired in the United States on November 17, 1978. Not really Christmas!
It’s about Christmas (life day)
The modern interpretation of Life Day is that it’s a Christmas analog but given its airdate, it’s a better fit for the American Thanksgiving.
Adding to the evidence is that Christmas was officially recognized as a holiday in that galaxy, far, far away as can be seen here.

I’m really unhappy with the characterization they gave him. He’s already the cold, calculist Jedi Master, the one that fails Ben and prompts the ST into existence, and… that’s not Luke. Luke is all about emotions and attachments, that’s how he saved his father’s soul. He went against his masters, he was a truly unorthodox Jedi, that’s how he won. He won through love, he understands that that’s what the Jedi are all about, so that’s how his Jedi Order should be. And that character would never remove Grogu, an infant, from the care of a loving father figure, because he knows the importance of such a figure. That was my biggest - and only - problem with TLJ Luke too (that got a pass because Hamill’s just so fantastic). I buy depressed/disillusioned Luke, that’s an extremely emotional Luke, but I don’t buy how he got there, and it’s already showing here. How he seems to have become a cold, detached Jedi, without the love and compassion that won the revolution and his father’s heart in ROTJ. That’s exactly why the PT Jedi failed and exactly why he fails in the post-ROTJ world, but it goes directly against his character IMO.
I’m surprised, to me the Luke from this episode is the exact same Luke we last saw in ROTJ. First, let’s address that Grogu is in fact a danger to those around him. We’ve already seen this when he force choked Cara Dune last season over an arm wrestling match. He’s spent decades alone and afraid and needs guidance on how to control his emotions or he runs a very high risk of either falling to the darkside and/or hurting someone by accident.
Now getting back to Luke. Luke doesn’t just show up and snatch Grogu and run off. He’s there because Grogu called out for help on Tython. And Grogu wants to go with him as is made clear in the dialog of that scene. What you interpret as cold and detached, I interpret as the serenity he carried himself with through Return of the Jedi. Throughout that scene Luke is very warm and reassuring with both Mando and Grogu. He assures Mando that he will protect the child with his life, he reasserts why it’s so important that Grogu complete his training. He gives them all the time they need to say goodbye for now. And he continues to reassure Mando with a “see he’ll be okay” look while Grogu is interacting with Artoo.
It was all consistent with the compassionate Luke I know from the end of the Original Trilogy.

I do wonder how they de-aged the voice though. I know how deepfakes and such work fairly well, but this is the first time I’ve heard a voice de-aged.
I’m wondering if they were able to use an advanced version of the unreleased Adobe Voco, or developed something similar. Hopefully we’ll find out in the BTS at Christmas
That’s my speculation as well!

Man, I absolutely loved it. And I KNEW IT as soon as I realized it was only a single X-Wing.
The real question was, was it going to be Sebastian Stan or deaged Mark? I really think they gave him that little bit of stubble right before he removes the hood to really make you think it might be Stan under there before they pull the rug from under you.
The effect itself, not perfect. There are definitely a couple of shots in there that are pretty bad but I think overall it worked.
AND THE VOICE! That is ROTJ era Luke all over! The voice is what impressed me the most.
Man I loved it.

They also seem to attach some kind of strap to a life-size figure of a dog at 1:10 which seems really odd for a SW trailer, but I’m guessing they’re planning on making some kind of practical alien effect by dressing up a dog.
It’s how they did the Corellian Hounds in SOLO:

Knowing Vader, why would he ever presume Obi-Wan’s death? Next to Yoda, Obi-Wan is public enemy number 1: the only surviving Jedi Council member, and who Vader has a deeply personal vendetta against. I doubt Vader and the Empire would let his escape go. I imagine there’d be wanted posters everywhere and the moment any Stormtrooper is able to locate him the leadership on Courscant would instantly be aware. This isn’t Cal Kestas or Kanan Jarrus.
For that reason, I find it more likely Obi-Wan and Vader fight again, and this time Obi-Wan will find some way to fake his death. It would explain a lot – why does Vader and Tarkin presume Obi-Wan’s death? He faked it somehow, permanently getting the Empire off his trail and allowing him to focus on protecting Luke. Why does Obi-Wan know Vader’s “more machine than man now” when he last saw him burning alive? Saw him personally, and realized that Anakin = Vader in the suit. Why didn’t Vader ever trouble to visit his old home on Tatooine, the first place to visit if you were hunting for Obi-Wan? His death was faked so he never bothered.
A fake death could even tie into the “death” of Obi-Wan and the “birth” of Ben.
Yes to all of this as well as tying in “Obi-Wan once thought as you did.”
