I’m also curious as to what is Vader doing here;

Loving it.
It’s going to be Baze Malbus, calling it right now.
Worst episode so far. Already a filler episode
A filler episode is one where nothing happens that is important to the main plot. This episode was setup for Sabine’s character arc and the start of a new ally.
But something has always bugged me…which is the letter at the end. The entire scene cheapens everything that went down between Tony and Steve, and made me feel like they had already made up.
At the end of Civil War, characters are split and there’s a whole new generation of superheros being trained up. What is the state of the Avengers at the start of Infinity War?
There’s a writing adage that says “write yourself into a corner.” My brother and I have always loved that adage. That was one of our favourite things about Civil War – that it ended in a difficult place where it’s hard to imagine what the road forward exactly is for both Tony Stark, Steve Rodgers and these two sides that have suffered the consequences of this division. On a storytelling level, it is a very difficult place and yes, that is very much the condition of the world as we move forward after Civil War. This very much sets the stage for where Infinity War begins – it’s a place of a strong divide.
Will some of the tensions have been resolved when we next meet those characters?
We believe things that are important and complex for a character to go through should be seen on camera. The divisions that happened at the end of Civil War were so deep they’re not the kind of things you can resolve or move through off camera; they’re the kind of things you have to directly deal with in the storytelling. That’s our philosophical approach to how we handle those things.
At the risk of delaying the project, a possible solution to the Emperor’s “Luke Skywalker” line may have surfaced.
I would still stick with the more saturated and contrasty version in my opinion.
I second this, though the compromise looks great. It’s gotta be pretty frustrating for you Dre to hear all of these conflicting opinions. Ultimately, it’ll be up to your best judgement.
The amount of references to male Mary Sues are about 0.005% of female Mary Sues. That’s precisely why it is sexist.
What a ridiculous argument. Is “Benedict Arnold” as a term sexist toward men?
What a ridiculous response. I didn’t say Mary Sue is a sexist term because it is a female name.
The number of male Mary Sues far exceeds female Mary Sues, yet female Mary Sues are labelled as such much more often, that is why it is sexist.
Yeah and I’m saying the majority of people being called a Benedict Arnold are probably men. Does that make it sexist?
Perhaps. but i don’t get why this idea that you can point out a separate issue (even if possibly related) and think that it negates the current issue. Just stop calling Rey a Mary Sue, and start saying “i don’t like woman leads”
How lazy is that. Someone says something you don’t like and so you just immediately jump to labeling them an “-ist” to try and shut them down.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed but we’re in a Rogue One thread. A film I happen to be quite psyched about. I have no opinion on Jyn as I haven’t seen the film yet. Could she enter the hallowed halls of awesome female protagonists like Ellen Ripley or Sarah Connor? Quite possibly. Or she could fall into Rey territory. No one knows yet.
And that’s not a knock Daisy’s performance. She was failed by the writing. Which is painful to say about a Lawrence Kasdan script but then Abrams is credited as co-writer. It wouldn’t be a shock to me to learn that Abrams had written most of it with Kasdan brought in to punch it up and to use his name for fan cred.

That seems likely to be the case. Doctor Strange tickets went on sale about a month out from release. Seems like they don’t do the two to three months out pre-sales anymore.
Honestly don’t give two toots if some people decide to go out of their way to take offense at such a term. It’s a descriptor for a type of character. Wesley Crusher was a Mary Sue.
I really don’t see the point of denying that TFA sucks…
Well there I’d disagree. It has a lot of bad elements but overall it’s still fun enough to overlook most of them. But the Starkiller is unforgivable.
Anyway, we’ve probably spent enough time on this TFA tangent.
How about that Tie Striker, eh?
Most of her maneuvers could be considered luck (or perhaps Ben would say the will of the Force guiding her) and are done with little precision.
You must have been watching a different chase than what I saw.
I mean it’s there in SW but it doesn’t change anything, he still does everything he sets out to do and never makes a mistake.
He gets his butt handed to him twice. First by a couple Tusken Raiders and then by a drunk.
He charges into the detention block with no exit plan and has to be saved by the quick thinking of the Princess.
He blasts the bridge controls trapping them on a cliff.
He almost gets them all killed when he shouts after Ben’s death.
He misses multiple times in the gun turret of the Falcon before he finally gets the hang of it.
He didn’t just get hit during the Death Star battle, that Tie had him locked on and Luke could not shake him. He would have died right there and then if not for Wedge. And again, he almost fried himself at the start.
Meanwhile, Rey readily takes down multiple attackers with a melee weapon. And is a deadshot that never misses once she’s given a blaster.
How come y’all have a problem with this but not Luke’s expert piloting and his ability to use the force to target a laser torpedo into a narrow exhaust port with like ten minutes of training from Ben?
Edit: the only difference between the two characters that would make Rey a "Mary Sue " but not Luke is that Rey is a girl, and it’s really hard to pretend otherwise.
At the beginning of the film he’s shown playing with a model of his T-16 while his full size ship is in the background:
He tells Han, “I’m not such a bad pilot myself.”
He mentions during the briefing his experience with his T-16.
Although cut from the theatrical release, Luke is questioned about his piloting skill and Biggs vouches for him, “Sir, Luke is the best bushpilot in the Outer Rim territories.” This scene would later be reinstated in the SE.
As for expert piloting, in the opening moments of the battle Luke almost kills himself after flying too close to the surface.
Later he’s almost killed by a Tie Fighter until Wedge swoops in and saves him.
Luke is a flawed character that makes mistakes.
Rey on the other hand, never makes a mistake and is the best at everything she tries.
That’s the difference between the two.
IIRC, the simulation was on a data chip, it wasn’t a full setup.
So you’re saying her flight training was the equivalent of playing this on an old laptop.
Well no wonder she was an ace pilot. /s
What’s his face earlier was no doubt sexist in tone, but there really is no denying that Rey was a legitimate Mary Sue.
I don’t count her fight against Ren because she did have some experience with melee weapons, and as noted earlier, severely injured both physically and emotionally at the time. My last point above could be explained away in a future film but as it stands. The way she was presented in this film alone, she qualifies for that classification.
That said, I’m immensely looking forward to Rogue One and have no real misgivings about it.
Looks like something I should check out. The Captain looks strange in red though.
Finally getting around to adding:
Passengers
So, the year is almost out. What were your favorite SciFi films of the year?
I seem to vaguely recall there being a behind the scenes featurette where they discuss recreating the Tantive corridor and that they made it way whiter than it originally was at George’s request. The reason its not the Tantive in canon though is that the design of the exterior is different from that of the classic Blockade Runner.
Frink will most definitely be getting a visit from Zeke the Plumber…
They’re in the midst of working on a TNG-ALIENS crossover as we speak.
