Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire (a hyper-reality experience)
Time

UPDATE:
I made the trip to Vegas.

I’ve experimented with VR a few times now and this was above and beyond the most immersive experience I’ve ever had in a virtual setting. When traversing on a moving platform you feel like you could lose your balance and tumble into the lava below. The heat from which you can feel wash over you when you’re outside on Mustafar. Should a stray blaster bolt find its mark you can feel its impact on your body. Every wall, seat and interface is real and can be interacted with. The tie-in elements from Rogue One were great. Would definitely do it again and now I’m hyped that after just coming back from my trip they announced Vader Immortal which looks like it ties into the story from Secrets. What perfect timing! My only regret is that I didn’t also do the Ghostbusters experience while I was there as well.

Lucasfilm's movie plans post Ep. IX

DISNEY CEO SAYS THEY WILL BE MORE CAREFUL ABOUT THE VOLUME AND TIMING OF FUTURE STAR WARS MOVIES GOING FORWARD

I made the timing decision, and as I look back, I think the mistake that I made — I take the blame — was a little too much, too fast. You can expect some slowdown, but that doesn’t mean we’re not gonna make films. J.J. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. We have creative entities, including [Game of Thrones creators David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss, who are developing sagas of their own, which we haven’t been specific about. And we are just at the point where we’re gonna start making decisions about what comes next after J.J.’s. But I think we’re gonna be a little bit more careful about volume and timing. And the buck stops here on that.
-Bob Iger

Interesting wording on the Weiss and Benioff project…

Artificially tearing them apart like that served no purpose other than to deprive fans of something special that can now never be rectified.

I mean you must know that’s just not true. Why would they do something with the sole purpose of annoying fans? Obviously the reason is that it didn’t fit the story they were telling. Whether you like that story or not is another matter, but let’s at least be honest here.

The only reason it was done was so that JJ could jam Luke Skywalker into his damnable “mystery box.” It is the be all, end all of his entire storytelling career. It is his crutch that plagues nearly every one of Bad Robot’s productions. I’m not saying he purposefully did it to spite fans, I’m saying that was the natural outcome of his poor storytelling.

In my mind the only thing close to a solution for Disney/LFL is to move entirely beyond the existing characters, so at least there will be one less factor that comes with a lot of emotional baggage for fans.

Or, you know, they could have treated the legacy characters right. Never getting to see the big three reunited just one more time on screen will always be unforgivable. That is one area the ST bungled from the beginning.

To your point, I agree and think a lot of the fervor will die down once the original cast are done post IX.

but that’s just it that might have been right for you but I would have been very annoyed by that type of ST. Putting the big three together would have felt extremely fanservicey in my opinion.

Well then, you are lost. =P The way they separated the cast is something that’s usually only done in extreme cases of scheduling conflicts and is never satisfying. The story excuses for it in TFA were horrid. It painted both Han and Luke in a very poor light to just abandon Leia like that. Those three are inextricably linked together. Artificially tearing them apart like that served no purpose other than to deprive fans of something special that can now never be rectified.

TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)

I’d love it if we could figure out a way to fix the Chewie hug. My idea, which I’ve been meaning to try and mockup in Photoshop is to cut the hug she gives him on Takodona and recomposite it into that arrival shot at the end of the film. You can reuse the background from the Leia-Rey hug, zooming in slightly and removing the extras in the background to vary it up.

Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **

I’m still surprised by how many people misinterpret Qi’ra’s actions at the end of the movie.

She isn’t betraying Han, she’s protecting him.

She works for Darth Maul, if he ever caught wind of Han he’d kill him without a second thought. Notice in that scene she purposely avoids any mention of Han to Maul.

There is nowhere they could go that they’d be safe. Qi’ra knows this and so she leaves to save his life.

Ron Howard said:

In my mind, she knew she couldn’t run off with Han. It would be his death and hers. She set him up to go, assuring him that she’d follow, but knowing she couldn’t really. She had to clean this situation up as best as she could. I think she hoped she could report in and then disappear, but [Maul] trapped her. He said, ‘Come to Dathomir and we’re going to be working closely together’, and you realise, ‘Oh my god, she’s traded one oppressive boss in for an even scarier dude’. In a way it fuels her ambition and puts her in a position of heightened power, perhaps. Or heightened danger. I thought it was kind of courageous for her.

REVIEW: The Clone Wars TV series from 2008: surprisingly well done

Does anyone have a good list of the most essential episodes/story arcs? I’m reluctant to commit to revisiting the entire thing, but I am interested in doing at least a partial re-watch before the new season hits next year.

What you could do is start with the chronological order and just skip the arcs you already know you don’t care for. It’s a very different experience this way that puts a lot of good material ahead of a lot of the bumpy season 1 stuff.

Preserving the...cringe...Star Wars Holiday Special (Released)
Time

This discussion convinced me it was time to revisit the Richard Pryor sketch. It’s funny, I thought I remembered it taking place in a proper cantina.

It looks like Wolfman has been dipping into Dr. Zaius’ closet.

Anyone know the story on that tentacle monster? All the other creatures there were from Star Wars except for that one.
